Battleground CC, Manalapan NJ - thoughts?

Looked at a membership here a few years ago but never went too deep. Anyone acquainted? How is the course? Was it slammed this year due to covid?

I enjoy battle ground. I haven’t been out there in a year or two but it’s a fun layout. I used to play in an event there every year. The clubhouse and facilities  are beautiful.

I played it a few years ago. I liked the course.

 

I talked to a few members and they could not have been nicer. I think it’s more of a laid back club. The restaurant downstairs was also very nice and good food.

Ive never played Knob Hill. I’m not real local to that area. I grew up playing at Trenton CC and live across the river in PA.

BCC is an average country club with holes 10-12 that don’t match the property. They were added after the owner sold the land the other 10-12 was on to build houses. Knob Hill is an average public course with 6 good holes, 6 average holes and 6 really bad holes. Charleston Springs offers better golf courses if that’s all you care about.

I don’t think 1-3 is a bad start at Knob Hill. I’d say 7-9, 11 & 12. So 5 really bad holes in my opinion.

2 is always wet and too short.

 

I like the option of carrying the pond on 7. I think the greens a little tricky IIRC.

 

What's your favorite monmouth county area course? Are you a member at any private clubs?

It is a phenomenal course. Greens are very tricky and a ton of bunkers.

I caddied at Manasquan River in Brielle and loved that course. I am not too crazy what they did to some of the holes on the back 9.
