Set of irons between Ping and TaylorMade

I have a set of Ping G15, G20 and G25 irons, I received as a gift Taylormade P790 2017 and I’m not ready to get rid of any of my ping set, do you have a comment/opinion?

Hit the TM irons a few rounds and if you don't like them sell/trade them for something you do like, is that a logical opinion/comment?

I have two comments: 1. Your font is far too large 2. Keep the G25s.  You will not regret it ever...

Only having 4 sets isn't an issue, its only the beginning...

Depending on who gave you the 790s, you cannot sell them if that means offending the giver.

 

But I don't see the problem: If you have 3 sets of nearly identical Pings, you might as well keep another set of clubs.

Bah. Sell the new irons and go get fit for a new driver. The OP has three sets of very good irons. I'm guessing he has an older driver, and could benefit from a newer (longer and more forgiving) big stick.

• What is your average GIR per round?
• Which iron model do you mainly play now?
• What shaft does the P790 have in it?  Is it a shaft you can handle?

Stock shaft for G25 was Ping CFS steel at 104 grams for R flex, and 109 grams for Stiff. (these are descending weight, long iron shafts weigh more than short iron).

 

The NS Pro Modus 105 is a constant weight shaft. The weights of the Modus and CFS will be similar.

 

You could test things out like this: Find a slow day at your course (if one exists). Take the 5-7-9 irons for both sets and do a side-by-side.

 

Play one G25 ball and one P790 ball. Go to the approximate landing area for your shots on each hole. Drop and hit a couple of balls with each kind of club. Keep track of feel, spin, etc.

 

Then, make a decision. G25 is more GI, while P790 is more players distance. See which one you like best.

Very very good suggestion and appreciate your comments on shaft
