my apologies, I read it as born between 93.

Drawing a line of demarcation denoting Generations is fluid at best.  Really, from a socio-economic perspective, how much difference exists between someone born in 1996 vs. 1997?  The same is said for many different generations.  Nonetheless, a line needs to be drawn somewhere that makes sense for demographers, sociologists and economists.

I have no idea who Kara Dixon is, but she's entertaining.  Looking forward to hearing more from her.

People talked a lot about how to improve the earning power of LPGA; USGA doesn't talked about it, they do it.

When average LPGA purse was less than $1.5 million, they raised theirs to $4.5 million, then 5.0 and $5.5 million.  They're the only reason the purses of four our of five majors today are over $4.0 million.

Not only they offer the biggest purse, they actually spend at least another $10.0 million in addition to the purse to run USWO every year.

People who work at USGA aren't Wall Street moguls, most of them earn competitive salaries like everyone else.  But their contribution to LPGA and women's golf is just immeasurable.

I always enjoy reading this part of USWO

2020 U.S. Women's Open: Inside the Field

Countries with players in the field – United States (41), Republic of Korea (27), Japan (17), Sweden (10), England (8), Australia (6), Thailand (6), France (5), People’s Republic of China (4), Spain (4), Denmark (3), Germany (3), Italy (3), Austria (2), Canada (2), Chinese Taipei (2), Mexico (2), New Zealand (2), Philippines (2), Malaysia (1), Netherlands (1), Northern Ireland (1), Norway (1), Puerto Rico (1), Slovenia (1), South Africa (1)

Rose Zhang, 17, of Irvine, Calif., won the 2020 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship this August, which earned her a spot in the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open at The Olympic Club in San Francisco. Her incredible 2020 season also includes three American Junior Golf Association individual titles and an 11th-place finish and low-amateur honors in the ANA Inspiration in September. Zhang was awarded the McCormack Medal by the USGA and R&A earlier this year for being the leading female in the WAGR. She was recently named the AJGA Rolex Player of the Year for a second consecutive year. Zhang is making her second U.S. Women’s Open start after she was one of five amateurs to make the cut last year in Charleston.

There are 21 players in the 2020 U.S. Women’s Open field who will be 20 years old or younger when the first round begins on Thursday, Dec. 10. Yealimi Noh and Lei Ye, who won the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship in 2018 and 2019, respectively, are both age 19.

I think the USGA is lucky in that it is one of the only golf entities that can closely emulate the Tennis model of Majors.  The amount generated from the men's event and the "You buy everything" TV contracts which gives the girls great Network exposure allows them to offer the large prize pools.  The sponsor this week can't be expect to put up 4-5 million and expect to get fair value for their money.  If the girls can find away to get on Network TV more than I think you'll see purse prize money increase across the board IMO.

USGA is just a tremendous organization.  They signed that $1.2 billion contract because of US Open, and they use the money wisely to grow women's and junior's golf.  By comparison, the R&A seeks a sponsor to run the so called "AIG Women's Open".

What USGA needs next week is to have a young and charismatic winner like Paul Creamer in 2010 and Michelle Wie in 2014.  It can do incredible wonders to professional women's golf if Brooke, Nelly, Bianca, Yealimi or Rose Zhang wins it.

The chances for a Korean winner this year seem to be improving greatly.  It would seem a couple of the heavy hitters are finding their form right before the event.

@Stooch ... when you refer to "heavy hitters", you mean the "big name players" as opposed to the "long hitters"?

I was going to echo your sentiments.  Jin Young Ko is putting together a nice round to challenge for the lead.  So Yeon Ryu is on -5, after 12 holes.  Of course, Inbee is just lurking inside the top-10 as well!    Perhaps their preparation strategies are going to work out okay for them for Houston.

I used heavy hitters to mean proven winners.  I'm not surprised Korean players don't mind cold windy conditions, I would expect them to have the same tolerance as someone like Brooke.  I was watching a Korean war Doc a couple of weeks ago and the conditions didn't seem much different than some of the places in Canada, excluding most Northern parts of our provinces and Manitoba in particular lol

Can you please not discuss the Volunteers of America tournament in the US Open thread? Some of us are waiting to watch it delayed on Golf Channel. Thanks

Fair enough, but nothing that was said will ruin your viewing enjoyment, it will be the first thing you see when you tune into the programming and see the leaderboard, the actual taping of what will be shown probably started 15 minutes ago.
