Prodi G vs TS3 Woods

Recommended Posts

Went to recommended club fitter to choose between us kids and prodi g.  Conclusion was US kids TS3 57 would be best for my 9 yr old coming off Ultralight 54’s.  They did not however have any woods to hit.  Some on here have spoke negatively on us kids woods mainly hybrid and 3.  Thoughts on buying ping woods and mixing w TS3 irons or should we just stick w same brand for everything to maintain consistent feel since he is young?  Thx

There's no reason to stick with any one brand.  We used TS3 irons and the 3h, along with Taylormade woods paired with shafts from Flynn for the longest time.  Used an M1 and M2 woods with the adjustable hosels so we kept the same heads for several years, just replaced the shaft.  Moved the driver shaft into the 3w, and got a new driver shaft.  Doing that held him over between 9-11yo, when we finally upgraded to some L shafts.

My daughter is just shy of 57" and I got her the 10-11 y.o. version Speedback (used), though she did have to choke up on it.  I eventually subbed in a Bassara Lite shaft, which helped with dispersion but she will probably go back to the stock shaft a some point in '21, when she'll be ready to turn 10.

For the extra $50 new, it seems like the Speedzone is a solid buy.

I can't recommend the Prodi G fairway wood and hybrid enough.  Very light, very balanced and my kids really hit these two clubs well.  Look for these two used and save some $$.

Yep, Cobra F9 or SZ are great drivers. Advantage to SZ only because the F9 is prone to chips at the top of the face should your junior happen to sky one.

The best part is Cobras free shaft upgrade.

I have done two fittings with my daughter over the last 18 months. One was at Sea Island and the other was at Club Champion. Both fitters told

me until my daughter got to around 80mph clubhead speed with the driver, I wouldn’t see a difference between any head. The key is getting the right shaft and weight. I have stuck with Cobra clubs because I coach HS golf and they give us a discount. Both fitters told me there was no reason to switch to another brand because I wouldn’t see any difference. So go find whatever you can get a deal on and cut it down to the right specs for your child’s height and roll on. If they are swinging over 70mph you start getting into the area of women’s vs senior shaft. You can probably go with either one and be fine. Just watch the weighting of the clubs. As far as wedges go, Cleveland and Callaway make ladies wedges. They come with lightweight shafts and you just cut them down to the specs you need.

Any recos on wedges?  My daughter has worn out her 56 degree US kids TS3. She’s in the 51” and not ready for 54” yet. Debating on getting the prodi g vs replacing with another TS3. The us kids wedges just seem dead on full shots.

The Prodi G 56* is really nice, like a lighter Glide 2.0.  It is too bad they don't make a 60*.

The Flynn Velocity wedges are solid, my daughter handed them down to my son this spring.  Very light, saw some of these being sold on eBay used for a nice price a few days back.

Edit:  I have no idea how the Flynns stack up to the USKG wedges.  IMO the Prodi G 56* was a step up from the Velocity, and the Ping Glide Forged 56* she has now is a step up from the Prodi G.
