Titleist TS12 vs. TS2

Recommended Posts

I think the TSi2 is going to be a tad lower on spin and hotter off the face.  Also, small detail, I think it looks better.  I don't know if it's as easy to just swap a TS2 head on the shaft you were fit for in the TSi2, I don't think they perform the same and may take a little more dialing in.  Whats your swing speed and ball speed with the M6?

At a recent Titleist fitting I was fitted for a a TSi2 driver 10* with Kuro Kage Senior!! flex. Age sucks. Didn't get to try the TS2 which can now be found on Ebay for $200-250. Has anyone tried both and do you think the new head is worth that much more?

Yes.  Don't waste your time, especially if you were fitted for your TSi.

Suspect I'll go ahead with the TSi2 as I agree it definitely looks better and probably performs better too. My current numbers are an embarrassing 78 mph chs and 118 ball speed. I don't belong on this forum?

We are all headed in that direction.  I've never been a long hitter and I just get shorter as the years go by. Time waits for no one.  I would buy the newer driver.  You know it is a good fit and it will probably continue to be a good fit for a few years.

I have played multiple rounds with the new TsI2 and SsI3.  For me the 3 was much more consistent.  The ball jumps off the face and just goes.   Its every bit as forgiving in my hands as the 2.  And I prefer the sound.  My Sim is gone, my PXG Proto will soon be gone and my driver spot for 2021 is firmly occupied.

If you are being fit to a 50g Kuro Kage A flex, then you are missing the boat by not trying the TSi 1 or TS1 driver, which has a 45g lightweight shaft, and a lighter overall club headhead, which generally means more clubhead speed. It was designed for those who have lower clubhead speed and has some build in advantages you might like. If I were a betting man, I'd say you'd hit the TS1 / TSi 1 head straighter and farther than the TSi 2 or TS2.  No brainer!  If i were you, I'd wait to hit the TSi 1 driver when it rolls out in February before making your decision.

Absolutely. Doesn’t everyone lust after the newest and best to chase a few more yards? In my case though, markedly decreased clubhead speed from age and injury is a it factor in the decision. Also for some reason the spin rate went WAY up with my current driver compared with fitting numbers from 2 years ago.

How far off were the numbers between your M6 and the new Tsi2? I ask, because for me, that would determine the cost to upgrade. Your M6 was fit and if you have liked the results of that driver you really aren't going to see a massive amount of improvement.

What shaft did you go with?

I have both. Played/hit the exact same shaft in both heads and still have the TS2 in the bag. It’s easier for me to draw. If the the TSi2 is longer and more forgiving it’s negligible. Problem is you were fit for the TSi and the same shaft will play different in the TS2.

Thanks. Why do you think they’d be much different?

From what I’m hearing the TSi2 spins less than the TS2. I can’t comment on construction, materials and engineering differences. Everything being the same as far as shaft, loft and lie I can say for certain that the TSi2 flies lower than the TS2. Like I said, for me anyway, the TS2 with this particular shaft/head combo requires less effort to draw. I can draw the TSi2 but it’s a more mindful swing. I’d say save ur money if you already have a TS2. The TSi2 isn’t groundbreaking by any means as far as distance or forgiveness over the TS2. I’ve looked at several comparisons on YouTube between the TS2 and TSi2 using state of the art launch monitors, and the ball speed numbers are really close. Spot on based on what I’ve experienced. If you skipped the TS2 or have a driver that’s older, the TSi2 is def a solid choice. If you can find a good deal on a TS2 head and get fit for a shaft, you won’t be disappointed. Take it for what it is, but I’ve hit roughly 300 balls with each.
So to answer the last sentence in ur original post...

Yes and no. Haha

Don't own the TS2 and the "fitting" I had for the TSi was extremely limited. Can get TS2 now for half the price of TSi2 and was just wondering if  the difference was enough to justify the extra cost. Altho isn't that what we all do on WRX?

The only way you don't belong on the forum is if you're trying to justify a new club purchase.

I'd go for the driver I was actually fit in.

There didn't seem to be much difference between my Ts3 and the TSi when I tried one out, but your swing/shaft/loft combination might be. A TS2 still isn't cheap, so if you're risking suboptimal performance off the rack, I'd be more likely to go with an older Cobra or M4 and save more for my trouble.
