Phil Mickelson Mystery 2 Wood

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know/can anyone tell what this fairway wood is that Phil has in for the Match 3?  Thought it was maybe a Taylormade Original One but when looking closer it doesn’t look like it

Looks pretty big for a fairway wood so your guess of a mini driver (Original One) seems to be a good guess.  Maybe this is something new Callaway either made for him or he’s tinkering.  Can’t tell for sure but looks like a weight port near the toe?

In the Bag:

Driver: 10.5 Epic Speed Graphite Design AD-ITZ 60

Fairway Wood: 15 Epic Speed Graphite Design AD-ITZ 70

Fairway Wood: 19 Epic Flash Tensei Blue 75

Irons: Apex Pro '19 4-AW, Aerotech Steelfiber 95

Wedges: 54 MD4 and 58 '19 PM Grind

Grips: Tour Velvet Jumbo

Putter: Odyssey MXM 9 HT

Balls: Chrome soft Triple Track

Hopefully trying to figure out what this club is won’t be the most intriguing part of The Match 3.

Nice comparison!  Looks like it, and "blacked out" to make nice with Callaway.  Original One stock will go up again if this is played on tv during "The Match".

Specs from WITB:

2-wood: Mystery Blacked Out Club
Shaft: Accra TZ6 M5 75

Not the first time. Phil has had some TM and Ping in the bag a few times.  We usually get great clubs out of these experiments, like the phrankenwood, 3 deep, PM grind wedges.

Definitely looks like the Original One that has been blacked out, good catch guys! You can see both the unique sole shape in the first pic and the shinier chrome accent towards the face in the second.

Would love to see another 3 deep from Callaway. I’ve been looking for a solid 2 wood and don’t like the original one.

Most club contracts are for 11 clubs max. Players want to have some flexibility, especially with putters and wedges.

Callaway will definitely want their head cover on it since that’s part of his bag contract. If Phil has the logo blacked out or whatever that is probably more a product of him wanting to be a very good spokesperson/endorsee than a requirement from Callaway.

Not a One

look at the shaft adapter where it enters the head.   TM has a triangular shape - that is square.

Also doesn’t look like a TM neck/hosel

It super duper is tho, take a closer look. Both dots, blacked out sharpie in spots that are for sure Original One and Taylormade logos. Even has the same groove right down the middle of the sole.

So it's just another smaller headed wood with a "V" shape in the sole design, a chrome accent towards the face, and two black dots in the same positions as the Original One? Also a logo on the toe that has been blacked out in the same position as the logo on the OO's toe? 😅

Anyone looking for a 2 wood should consider the cobra big tour speedzone 3 wood. Goes to 12 degrees. Just built one myself and loving it

    • In-hand photos of 2023 TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus, Stealth 2, Stealth 2 HD drivers + fairways woods
Check out our front page launch stories here and here.

What you need to know: For the first time, carbon is the most prevalent material by volume in a TaylorMade driver, and more carbon equals better performance, says the company. Last year, TaylorMade debuted a 60X Carbon Twist Face. With TaylorMade Stealth 2, engineers are bringing carbon to more of the golf club — and unveiling a new-and-improved Carbon Twist Face in the process. Stealth 2 Plus (low spin, most workable) Stealth 2, and Stealth 2 HD (draw bias, high launch, most forgiving) drivers make up the Stealth 2 family.

      Stealth 2 HD

What you need to know: Breakthrough movable weight technologies and versatile designs are the hallmarks of the 2023 TaylorMade Stealth 2 fairway woods. Stealth 2 Plus is branded as “three fairway woods in one” owing to the unique performance characteristics afforded by the 50-gram sole weight. Stealth 2 features a slightly lower profile 3D carbon crown than Stealth. This moves CG down and away from the toe with more weight in the rear of the club for higher launch and MOI. Ultra-high MOI Stealth 2 HD features an oversized 200cc head and low-profile sole, creating an easy-to-hit, draw-biased club.
