Directed Force Lab Broomstick putters

That’s the problem with broomstick and armlock putters. I would love to try the DF in these configurations.  It’s almost impossible without making a bunch of expensive mistakes.

Back in the day, Scotty had an adjustable length demo club for belly and broomstick fittings. I actually bought the demo from my club (not conforming for some unknown reason).

wish there were more options out there to try.

If that demo was non-conforming, the only two possibilities I can think of are that it was adjustable before adjustable was legal, or that the lie angle could be set to less than 10* off vertical.  Of the two, the first seems much more likely.

To make it legal all you need to do is epoxy it in position so that it cannot be adjusted.  The idea behind similar shafts is to adjust until comfortable then permanently set it at that position.  Generally if not I competition and playing with mates it is fine.  Once you get it to where you want then epoxy it.  The you can enter competitions.  It will be legal as it is no longer adjustable.

I ordered the DF 2.1 long putter a little over 2 weeks ago. I ordered it at 48 inches, 79.5* and the split grip since I currently have a long putter that has those specs. I also went with the stock KBS shaft. I like my current putter, but the head is small so mishits are punished. I’ll post after I get it and let you know how it handles. I’m desperate enough to take this leap without having demoed it. But I was impressed enough with the overall reviews to give it a shot.

Played my first round with my new broomstick putter (side-saddle method) yesterday. Changed the order to the upgraded LA shaft.  Had something happen today that has never happened to me before. When I made the 5th birdie of the round on 18 my playing partner asked me what is the name of that putter? I was lucky today because the group behind us was slow. So after every hole, I would drop my ball the furthest from the hole as I could and see what happened. I didn’t make any but burned a few edges and the distance control was uncanny for a first outing. Every putt I had today I actually thought I could make. Never felt that way before. As Heston said, out of my cold dead hands!

By far the best putter I have ever used.   I went a half inch short with recommended lie angle.  Sam (really Jake) and his crew walked me through the process and I threw a dart.   I went from a D- putter to someone that is a little dangerous from anywhere.   The only thing I think about is line and how far I bring it back; for a simpleton like me, it’s perfect.     I shot 74 today with mediocre game in cold weather; this is not normal and had everything to do with putting.   FYI, at least 4 of my golf pals have ordered a LAB putter.

I just picked up a DF 2.1 Broomstick from a buddy that gave up on it. Any current users have a tips or advice on making this thing come alive? I have 3 rounds in so far and love it, just struggle in a few areas with it.

I am tentative on 3 footers and open face on 30 footers. 10-15 footers are just easy for me. Loving it so far, just looking for some more advice from fellow broomstickers.

Ball position and new users typically change shoulder plane when playing.

Remember the shoulder drill DJ was using during his masters win? Good one to try.

Yea, when I don’t pay attention to setup the ball creeps back in my stance which I know is bad with the DF. Been working in rocking the shoulders too. Easy to just use hands with a broomstick. Thanks.

May seem counter intuitive but I actually grip it a little tighter from short range so I don;t have to make quite so long a stroke.

Spent more timing practicing with the broomstick today and found out a different grip that really worked. Decided to try the lower hand (right hand) with a grip like I would grip a regular putter. I mean not using a pencil or claw grip. Worked really good. Felt like my right hand was tossing the ball to the hole. Very good results.

Update. Again, purchased my DF 2.1 Broomstick from my friend and was not fit for it. After about 20 rounds I just felt like it might be too long. Felt like I was standing up too straight with it. I sent a video in to LAB and they came back and said I need 2” cut off it it get the lie angle correct for my height and stature. Said the putter was toe up and want it flatter and would help me get more over the putter. Great customer service @labgolf…this thing will get even more lethal!

I have been rolling a Lab B.2 putter for quite awhile but I purchased a used 47" DF2.1 at a 79.5 lie angle to try out.  It has the #7 alignment mark which is just the single line on top.  Thus far I have just practiced with it over the winter, but it's in the bag at the beginning of this season.   I have been very happy with my consistency from inside 5' as well as my lag putting while practicing.

I am going to send it back to LAB to have the shaft changed and lengthened to 48" and also change to the alignment marks.  I have been lining up my putts from both the side (like most people do), and also from the back looking down the line from the back of the putter.  I was having problems getting lined up as well felt I could, so I drew some different alignment marks with a dry eraser to test a few out.  I am going to have them change it from the current alignment to either #19 or #20 (3 lines).  It has really improved my alignment

I hope to have it back in couple of weeks.

For anyone who has had the Broomstick in a steel or Accra/LA golf shaft in… what is the difference between the shafts? Feel better? What the reason to upgrade? Sending mine back to get cut down and wondering if another $100 is worth it for the Accra shaft? Thanks.

I just sent mine back for some work.  Unfortunately due to the DF 2.1 head I have, they could not install one of the graphite options because of how the silver / older head used to be drilled out.  My interest was tying to get rid of some of the "flex" or vibration on long putts.

I ended up going to the black steel shaft, but I was also having them change the alignment markings on the putter.

For you broomstick DF2.1 cats, where do you like your ball position?

IMO it depends on where you align the shaft in relation to the center of your chest.  For me, I tend to like to have the shaft left of center of my chest bone and more over my left pec.  It just feels more comfortable and steady while gripping with my left hand.  Because of that, my ball position is a little forward to get the best roll on the ball.  If I move it back to center of east, I tend to have the ball position more in the middle which visually looks like the head is too far back, but it is the only way I get a good roll on the ball.

I cannot say it better that what he said. Depends on where the top of the shaft is in relation to the center of your chest. I play it just like he does. I was waking mine back to get cut down and an Accra shaft… I cancelled the request. I cannot mess with the magic! ! Man this thing is amazing. Even the fitter at LAB said don’t mess with it if it is working.

How tall are you, do you like to stand tall or crouch over. Howdy you compare this putter to other long putters that you may of used. Do you still game the DF

I'm 5'11' and I slightly crouch.

The DF is actually my backup putter.  I mostly use a Bobby Grace F22.

But I think I want to give it a more extended try on the course this year.
