Paying it Forward to someone who needs it

In true WRX fashion, I got antsy waiting for a custom TSI3 to ship from Titleist, and ended up ordering another one, which also was a custom order which sort of defeated the purpose of getting a club in hand earlier.  Now I've got a 9 degree coming on Monday and an 8 degree shipping in 2 weeks.  Bottom line, I'm going to compare the 2 shafts in the 8 degree head and sell the 9 degree when it arrives, hopefully for around $500.

 

After thinking about how ridiculous this all is, I sat back and thought about how fortunate I am (my kids are happy and healthy, i have a decent job, don't need to worry about where my next meal is coming from) and how much golf has given me over the years (friendships, entertainment, life lessons, etc) and how I should give something back.

 

So, to pay it forward to a bunch of good dudes on WRX who love the game as much as I do, I'd like to give the proceeds from selling the 2nd head ($500) to someone who truly needs it.  Meaning... maybe it was a tough year for you or your family, healthwise (covid-19 or otherwise), maybe you lost your job, are food-insecure, maybe your despondent that the election was stolen from your man, or upset that you just paid off your college loans before your realized they were going to be forgiven.  Just kidding about those last 2.

 

But seriously, if you love the game of golf and have some legitimate life circumstance where you could really use the $, send me a PM or describe your situation and perhaps this will help you out.  As a natural skeptic, I'd probably be biased towards situations that are posted on the board and others can vouch for the person, but all I ask is that the situation is a true need and real, otherwise no questions asked.

I did something fun the other night, I took my wife out on a date. Got some hot chocolate at Starbucks and bought gift cards. We drove around the town and put gift cards in mailboxes of the lights we liked the best.

 

Maybe you can find your own way of providing a little holiday cheer to people you see and appreciate. Look for the folks that work hard a minimum wage job and hand them some cash or gift card.

I too am not in need but must applaud you for your desire to help out.  If you got no traction with the idea how bout using the proceeds for lunch or coffee for some hospital staff at your local hospital.  Covid sucks and they’ve been helping others through it all.  Just a thought

Hey All, thanks for the questions about this.  I did end up getting a couple of queries through PM and ended up giving $700 to the person who made the request below, which seemed like a pretty worthy cause.  The person gave me his contact info and I was able to confirm his identity and contacted him through his school's website (and his school assigned email), so I feel good it ended up in the right hands.  I'll let that person talk about what he ended up doing with the $.  But I'm very glad that I did this and hopefully can turn this into a tradition.  Covid or no-Covid, there are always going to be people who need a little help so I'm glad I can help in some small way, especially in this case to someone who shares the same love of golf!

This is a really cool idea. I'm surprised nobody contacted you. 

I'm a [x] teacher at a school in [x]. We've got a ton of kids who could use some resources (clearly this school situation is tough for everyone, but the kids are the ones for whom it's most important). I've been buying things like headphones, organizers, and various things to help them try to find success. If you are still interested in donating your "extra" money, it could be used for things like snacks for certain kids that have difficult home lives. I'd also like to buy some novels that I can give kids to use for our readings. As you may or may not imagine, many students are not impacted greatly by this situation, but some of our kids are getting further and further away from being successful.

Hey everyone!

I was the lucky recipient (and my students) of this awesome generosity.

 

Last year was very hard on many students, and this was a great way for me to welcome them back to the class at the end of the year, and the start of this year. I was able to offer "no questions asked" snacks and novels for students to take home and further their reading skills. 

 

Trully... this was a selfless act by our initial poster. If anyone is wanting to jump onto this cause let me know! It would be great to keep furthering the reach we can have.
