Callaway Apex and Apex Pro 21

I’m thinking the Pro is some sort of hollow design to compete with the P770?

The pro has interior 'foam' and weighting with cupface - the XForged line does not.

The pro has always been 'hollow', here's the Apex Pro 19:

So how many lines of "irons" will Callaway have? You have these then you have the whole "Mavrik" line and the Big Bertha irons?With, the increase in price of irons lately, they must have a large margin to justify all the irons? 10 different iron sets if my math is right?

Sitting here staring at pics of Apex TCB vs X Forged CB.  Looks like a deeper cavity on TCB, perhaps thicker topline & rounder toe, obviously different type of forged construction.  Like TCB is to X Forged as JPX forged is to MMC.  If Ping can have i210 and iBlade, or Titleist T100S and T100 and 690 CB, I don’t think there’s too much overlap here. And TCB-XF would probably make a sharp combo in the bag...if back plates are your thing. (It’s not mine, I’ll be sticking with XF-MB ‘18)

I was originally wanting a combo, but those Pros look so good and I bet they’re more forgiving than they look.

Why do you suppose they took marketing pics then??

What’s the source of that picture? Reason I ask is because every iron in that picture is at the same angle except the TCB and the X Forged CB is absent. Upon close inspection, just strikes as not quite right.

Very interesting... I'm glad Callaway has actually given a lot of combo options here.  Going to go out on a limb here and "assume" the difference in that Apex CB that looks identical to the X Forged could end up being like the last round of Apex Pros' where there was a double dot tour version.  In other words I bet the X Forged is a single piece forging and I bet that Apex CB likely is a multi-piece design with or without cup faces (like T100 and CB from Titleist) but I could be wrong.  Maybe they just heard people like me complaining that they needed to offer all the combo offerings here in the Apex line.

I combo set already but I could see maybe doing a 3-way combo with these... Playing the MB in the PW and 9i and that CB in the 8i and 7i and then playing the Apex Pro or even the one up from that in the 5i and 6i.  A higher handicapper could combo down with Apex Pro in the short irons.  Whatever suits your eye.  I think there is likely one head too many from that picture but I at least give Callaway credit for trying to make the Apex line more easy to combo.

Hm interesting wondering if the Callway/Titleist comparisons would be:

MB = Apex MB

CB = XForged CB

T100 = Apex TCB

T100S = Apex Pro

T200 = Apex

T300 = Apex DCB

I hate to throw cold water on the party here, but I've seen nothing official to indicate that the TCB is coming to retail. I'm not saying with 100% certainty that it won't at some point, but if it was in fact going to be imminently available I'd know.

That's why I'm dubious on the source of that photo with all the different Apex irons in it. It looks "not quite right", for reason explained previously. It may be legit, but count me skeptical.

It’s an Apex iron family photo so X Forged shouldn’t be part of the pic.

The pic I saw looks like it was a product brochure of some kind. Has Callaway ever had an iron played on Tour that didn’t come to retail in some form? One of my local Pro’s is waiting on his set of TCB to replace his Apex Pro 19 set. My Pro said the CG is higher on the TCB vs the X Forged.

Fair enough, and I certainly don’t want my tone to come across as combative. I’m gonna be very annoyed if this is in fact being released and my boss and I were told nothing, but not with y’all. 🙂

You can only call them a coach if you’re on a college or high school team, or playing as a professional, otherwise he’s your teaching professional.

Are the Apex Pro supposed to be a one piece forging, like the last iteration?

Someone mentioned a foam filled hollow body, so I assume that can't be a 1 piece forging, but wanted to verify.

I don’t know about all of them, but the Apex Pro 19 wasn’t a one piece forging. It has 1025 forged bodies but steel insert faces — cupface with microspheres in 3 to 7 and VFT (variable face thickness) in the short irons. That may have been when they changed. I was surprised at the time, thought it was meant to be a traditional forged iron with tungsten perhaps.

I seem to recall the original Apex Pro was a one piece forging, at least in scoring irons, but I don’t know for sure.

Wow, I didn't know the 19 Apex Pro was a 2 piece.  I thought it was 1 piece.  I thought the 2 piece offering was the standard Apex.

I don't own any of them, so my knowledge of them is pretty low, that's why I was asking.

I ordered 3-5 in the Pro having only seen them to combo with the MB in 6-p. Finally got to hit the 7 iron fitting head in the Pro, and now can hardly wait for mine to get here. Sound and feel are consistent with that of a traditional 1 piece forging. Those that found the sound and feel on the ‘19 Pro to be not quite right will likely find the new one to be a massive improvement.

Let one of my local accounts hit all 3 new models as well. They were very nervous about CF19 going away because it’s been their best selling iron by a mile. Suffice to say they’re not worried anymore.
