Titleist wood users - A1 or B1 setting?

hypergolf

Recommended Posts

I currently use Srixon Z785 irons with 2* flat lie angle.

I have been using B1 setting on my Titleist woods and seemed to be hitting slight fades.

So switched it to A1 setting and the balls started going straighter.

If I am playing flatter lie angle with my irons, shouldn't my woods be the same?

Why is A1 setting working better than B1 setting?

I am the same - playing irons 2* flat and my Titleist woods on B1.  And notice the same slight fade bias with woods set at B1.

Other posts here have debated (at length) the effect on flight path when you adjust the hosel flat or upright.

One theory is that IF you adjust flat, AND you sole your driver, allowing it to settle on the ground, AND you regrip afterwards... the face will have rolled slightly open relative to target. This "rolling open" is likely so miniscule an amount that most people would not notice it when looking down at the club. But it can be enought to generate a slight fade bias.

See below video for a good explanation on adjustable hosels.  Skip to 5:00 for the quick explanation.  Skip again to 10:55 to where it starts talking about lie (flat vs upright) adjustments. And again to 15:30 to where he talks about how these adjustments affect face orientation relative to target.

Before others take this post sideways, its just a theory.  And there are a number of other explanations that might more easily explain your results (driver grip vs iron grip, shafts, different swing paths, etc).  But it seems applicable to OP's question.

My guess is with a driver you are also shifting the cog a bit, which can change the launch conditions.  Since you are hitting a driver off of a tall tell don’t worry about lie angle, worry about ball flight.  The loft setting will open and close the face as well.

Thanks. But it is not only for the driver but fairway woods and hybrid as well which i play off the deck.

I play my ts2 on D1 for 56.5* lie angle and 14.2*

Pretty straight of the tee but could dive on me left from the ground sometimes.

C2 works best of the ground but it balloons off the tee so nixed it. C1 will leak right on me for sure but it looks the best sitting behind the ball nice and open.

5'-7" tall with long arms

Driver is 56.5* lie at 8.2*

Wood is 56.5 lie at 14.2*

Hydrb is 56.0* lie at 17*

I feel like wood technology has changed to allow for longer clubs but I cant swing a 46" driver consistently enought so i cut mine down to 44.5" and 44.75".

Swing weight, shaft droop and tourgue is a b**** to get right on your own.

Its prob your shaft its drooping more on you the more confidence you get with the club and you swing harder.

The more upright lie it droops square back on you.

So when you adjust the loft on a Titleist driver, fairway or hybrid you also adjust the lie angle?  I thought the Titleist sure fit hosel works independently??  I’ve heard When you adjust the loft up it opens the face and when you adjust down it closes the face?  Is this true?   Thanks

It's the opposite. Lowering loft opens the face.

No, it's independent. There's combinations of ABCD and 1234 that produce different loft/lie configurations. Google "SureFit CG" and check the images tab - you'll find an example to look at that shows you the adjustments.

Edit: and the chart for hybrid is slightly different from fairway/driver, though I think the only significant variance is the degrees of loft you can add/subtract.

Just my thoughts - D plane theory

Driver with it on the peg , I play -2 flat titlest specs +.50” , a little upright on the driver bc it’s so far forward , upright keeps my right shoulder (I’m right handed ) from dipping forward/ open , flatter my right shoulder drops / opens too much.

fairway woods, I  play more like my 2iron which is 57 and irons, ball more back I want to sweep vs hitting up , I’m around a flat AOA on 3w .  Titleist d1 tsi setting , 57.5*

going to depend on your swing and biometrics IMOP , club set up will and visuals will help some but flight dictated how you deliver that head at impact

I view my Driver and Woods as independent clubs compared to my iron set. My iron specs are irrelevant to what works with my woods.

Same for me. My irons are usually on the upright/long side, but I play my fairway woods shorter (effectively flatter) AND as flat as I can make them usually. Both my 915FD fairways are in C1, if I followed the same lie angle pattern as my irons, my fairways would drive me crazy.

The tiny bit of sleeve movement is going to be a negligible distance and amount of weight that will have no impact on the CG (it takes a lot of weight moved fairly far to make an impact on ball flight).
