How to get the most out of lessons?

I'm a brand new golfer and I live in snow country (Syracuse area) but I would like to work on my game this winter in the hopes of making some improvement in my swing before the spring.

I am willing to put the time in and I can spend a little money.

As best I can tell my options for instruction and range time are my local Golf Galaxy (hitting into a screen) and the indoor range at Turning Stone Casino.

Can people share their thoughts on what would be the most efficient way to improve my swing this winter given that these are my two options? Among other things, what should I look for in an instructor?

A couple of things on instructors. Check out their social media - Instagram, YouTube, . . . You can see their students and how they interact and teach. Without talking with the it is difficult to know if you can connect with their style. In a general sense, I’d look for someone who understands cause and effect in the swing .

Some on here might be able to recommend someone local. Otherwise online lessons can be very effective and some even do lessons via FaceTime/zoom and not just via emailed videos. If you can travel then the options are pretty wide open - lots of really good instruction out there. Just a few from this site are monte Scheinblum, Dan carraher, michael Martin.

also a good instructor can will be able to and should include effective practice methods as part of the lesson especially if you tell them you are new to golf.

tons of folks don’t Improve cause they don’t understand how to practice and that golf takes lots of time and improvement is incremental and not overnight. 1% better everyday.
