Anyone play punch shots on the course as a normal part of their playing?

I occasionally will get the S#**% during s round.  I have found the bedt way for me to get around when this happens is to take a 7 iron, stand with my feet together and take a very abbreviated back swing maybe barely past 90 degrees.  It generally relates to a 100 to 120 yard shot and actually checks up fairly well.

I hit so many knock downs because they are straight and not moved around by the wind, the swing is more compact and the club goes down the line longer.  For me, harder to pull and push as well

Where i play it gets incredibly windy and you need to learn the punch/knock down shot early.

We've got a par 4 with a second shot over water (not really a factor on the second) to an elevated green with some pretty good slope from back to front.  Usually breezy around here often during the season and winds are usually cross winds when approaching that hole.  But, depending on conditions, whether you use driver (is possible for a good drive to run out down a hill and down to the water) or 3w off the tee, most of the time it's anywhere from 150 to 100 yards.  You think a nice high approach would be called for, but this year in particular I've been taking more club and hitting controlled shots into the green.  Don't always do it because, well, I just can't help myself, but when I've hit that lower, crisp 8 iron from 125 (as an example) the results have been so much better. Same on the finishing hole - challenge to get it in the fairway, but left with anywhere from 80 yards to just off the green depending on various factors - when the pin is middle to back so much more success hitting a nice controlled 50 degree or sometimes PW in there from 70 yards than spinning a lob wedge.
