Bridgestone Tour B XS 2020 Vs Srixon Z-Star- Long Term Comparison

Babydaddy

Recommended Posts

I've been a Z-Star guy for a while now- In my opinion the following things are true

1) prior iterations of Z-Star were more durable than the Z-Star 6 (current version)

2) Z-Star tends to be a touch shorter than the Pro V1 for me over the longer term

3) Z-Star is a great all around ball that does everything very well, but nothing absolutely floors you about it

4) I love the extra white appearance

I broke out Tour B XS yesterday on a very nice golf course with the fastest greens I have ever played on. I found the following

1) The B XS holds hard, fast greens really well- I mean really well

2) I hit a lot of fairways and felt that the XS might be a couple of yards longer on average than the Z-Star

3) It appears that the XS may be a touch more resistant to visible damage than the Z-Star

4) I felt the XS spins a touch more with every club including the driver

I nutted a drive using a Z-Star and it ended up being surprisingly shorter than has been the pattern and I find that happens sometimes. I know other people have noticed that with the Z-Star-

If you have bounced back and forth between these balls what has been your experience?

For me, the ZStar has always felt like a 'heavy' ball, and was shorter off all clubs when I played it a few years ago.

I've hit a few that I've found recently, and I still have no interest in buying them.

The BXS works good for me, though. I have 2.5 dozen of the last gen. that I'm working through.

For me the 2020 Tour B XS checks all the boxes.  Feel, spin, distance and durability are all top notch.  The best ball I’ve played in 2020.  Will be my ball for 2021.

Thanks! I was reading some of your other posts- your thoughts on iron head shapes really resonate with me! I've had lots of Bridgestone gear but I am particular about head shapes and really also the way the toe looks at address.

I'm going to give the XS a good long exclusive trial. To be honest, I was expecting it to be less durable than it is.

I just purchased some z stars on current promotion. I have been playing b xs all spring and summer. After a few rounds, I have come to the conclusion with my swing:

Bxs is noticeably longer with driver, feels better, Zstar almost rock like, which turns me off. Long story short, no more z star for me. Will replenish BXS supply

Switched in August…I actually struggled with the XS with my short game distance control …felt too soft coming off my wedges and putter. The 2021 Pro V1 has a little firmer feel off my wedges and putter which I liked better and improved my short game distance control.  In September I switched to the 2020 Bridgestone BX because the ProV1 was 1/2 a club shorter with my iron game.  The BX has worked very well for me.  Longer off the tee and irons than the ProV1. Even though it’s a firmer feel than the BXS and ProV1, I’ve liked it’s all around performance.  I forgot to update my signature 🤦🏻‍♂️, now its current.

I've used all 3 for some time. My opinion is much the same. For me the XS is an outstanding ball, hard to fault. I have found the XS to be the longest with my driver of the 3 and has the best spin of the 3. Pretty hard to fault the Pro V1 in any category it's still the benchmark.

Been using the using the Z Star every other round for the last few months and have found maybe a yard or 2 shorter off the tee than the Pro V1 but about 3-4 yards longer with 4 iron thru to 7 iron. Ball flight is higher than the Pro V1 and XS. Spins pretty good.

I don't think the Z star is as good in the wind, seems to move more laterally. I did get one Z star that was out of balance which is unusual for Srixon and is the reason I would not use it if the game really mattered.

After going back and forth between the XS and Pro V1 for 18 mths back and forth I'm convinced that the most overlooked thing is the roll on the greens. For a long time I thought its just my imagination but in my mind I'm firmly convinced that the Pro V1 just rolls better and truer on the greens.

I make more putts with the Pro V1. The days I shoot more than 1 or 2 under its always the Pro V1. The down side is I prefer the feel of the XS and the Z Star.

I putt much better with the XS than I do with the pro v1. Each cover will putt different and make such a big difference that’s hard to pick up on
