I have 3 sets of PXG irons, 2 Gen 1 hybrids, 2 Gen 2  hybrids, 2 Gen 1 fairways, 1 Gen 2 fairway, and a Gen 2 Driver.   And I love every one of them.    No PXG putters or wedges.

I list the creditials so that I won't be labeled a hater when I say -- that is the most butt ugly driver I have ever seen.  It must look much better in person because otherwise I'm kinda surprised PXG would associate its name with such a cheap looking driver.  Just my opinion.  Your's may differ.

I love PXG, but I agree with you.

That head looks horrible. The pic just above showing it at setup with the red shaft and the striped head? That’s a hard no for me...

PXG being that they dooped many of us by releasing Gen 4 a year after Gen 3 (I can't wait to hear this story as to why) needs to come out with colored weights for the back.  Let consumers make the clubs fun if thats what they want.  Looking forward to trying them out for sure to compare.  New Mizuno MP 22 along with Titleist releasing their new irons Sept 2021 though so dunno.....

If PXG doesn’t do colors, someone will aftermarket.

As my mom always said- beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I will reserve judgement on the attractiveness (or lack there of) of the Gen 4's product line until I can see them in person. Pictures are often deceptive and they may look better in person. For example, the silver oxide carbon fiber weave on the 0811 driver crown may look better when you see it live and offer enhanced alignment. Or it might just be a real turn-off. If the latter, PXG could release a Darkness version that goes back to an all flat black crown. That said, I remember when TaylorMade released their white R11 headed driver (which to my eye was atrocious), but they sold a ton of them. And there were no touches and pitchforks marching their way to Carlsbad. To my eye, the best looking irons are the new 0211 ST with their clean blade look, and the best woods are the Proto driver/3 wood. But then again that's just one man's opinion.

MGS 2021 Driver testing.....

  • PXG made a splash with their new GEN4 driver lineup. The 0811 X, 0811 XT and 0811 XF all featured a grey Aluminum Vapor crown feature. The color scheme provided some shock and awe for testers. It’s fair to say it’s polarizing.

Their testing is never apples to apples and should be taken with a grain of salt...Different shafts, different length clubs, various humans testing, etc...While its entertaining to read, its nowhere near perfect and everyone should do their own homework and a fitting before dropping cash on a new driver...

Anyway, Gen4 irons heads should be with the fitters within the week...Hearing Gen4 driver, fairway and hybrids heads are still 2 - 3 weeks out from hitting the fitters...

Did anyone look at the launch monitor data for the MGS test?  The data set is essentially at 140 mph ball speed.  Launch angles and spin are both generally too low for that speed.  Wondering why they didn't get these testers into a little more loft to address that issue...

One thing that stood out to me about this test is the driver lengths were all over the board and swingweight varied from C9 to D8.

Another thing that stood out to me was the raw distance numbers...  2 to 5 yards (max) difference in most cases against the XF.

Address pic looks good to me..........the question for me is how "XSF" (Xtremely Soft Feel) is this....I don't care for the overly soft feel...need more solid feel.

Certainly nothing wrong with the back design as this design has been used before.  Maybe got a thumbs up from TM?  And has been used in another model about same time and was recently used by Berger to win the ATT.

Question is why did TM not stay with this design in their irons?  GONE!  Why if such a smart design?

I'm thinking that maybe PXG will stick with this since the smaller screw weights were already part of their design MO and like the small>large weights on the wood soles the irons have taken on a similar appearance.  And as long as PXG is using these weights they stay.

just luv SOFT feel in general - although you like a bit of solid feel too. I find Ping irons give me that even though they are generally cast.  PXG's have always felt good to me so will be interesting to see what Gen4 has to offer.  I own the Gen3's but would not be against trading up to the new ones if they can show me they are as forgiving as Gandhi.

I actually thought given some margin for tolerance that the lofts were pretty close to stated loft. No vanity lofting like we saw 5-10 years ago.

Other than like 3 outliers (1-1.5*) (Tour Edge and Cobra) lower than spec most were within 0.1-0.3*. That’s pretty tight if you ask me.

Good clarity. I was pretty taken back by the length and swing weight measurements and grouped the lofts as part of the body of work. Loft was definitely the best in terms of tolerance but a titleist was off .5 degrees and a Ping from memory was .6 degrees lower. You mentioned the others and then throw in the length variances from advertised and Swing Weight misses...who likes that driver at D8...or at C9. It was telling to me and we didn’t even discuss how bad the grip alignments were from the stock builds...

Let’s get back to more important topics... Has anyone hit these irons yet? Who can describe the differences from Gen3? Really interested in seeing a side by side comparison between the Gen4 T and Gen3 T club head.

Curious as well. I like the idea of the larger weight and ease for fit and tinkering (will also help MOI builds). If they are softer feeling than Gen3, they must feel uber soft as Gen3 IMO are extremely soft from owning a set P/T combos.

Yeah, not sure how they could feel softer but am very intrigued to hit them next to my Gen3s. Will be tough to do a side by side though as my shaft isn’t offered from PXG. Project X LS

The more pics I see of the Gen4 woods, I gotta say they're starting to grow on me. I certainly won't ever say I love it, but depending on camera angles they look ok.

I prefer my proto driver and hybrid, but since the 0211 3w isn't too great of a club I might just replace it with the Gen4 3w

Just got home from my quick 30 minute fitting at PXG in Mesa for specs on my irons and rehit the Proto 5 wood. Perfect. Ordered it.

But.... got to hit the Gen4 P and it was crazy good for me! Felt so good and carried farther than my 0211’s and better launch and spin. It was dead perfect for me with the numbers. Fitter just laughed with my first hit. He knows my game and numbers and he said it could not get any better for me.

Even at these prices these will be great irons. I’ll have to wait for prices to drop next year, but I will own a set of these. 46BB88D0-4BE4-422A-B83C-D361C919AD93.jpeg.656707b25d87f6e6d16896c367096521.jpeg

Haha. These Proto fairways are just too good. Distances are great with a nice launch. Tried to really purchase a Proto hybrid, but the 5 wood was just too good and fit my gaps perfect between the Proto 3 wood and my 4 iron.

I have to admit I’m coming around on the Gen4 driver looks.  I love my Proto, but...

I'm going to test it against the Proto. If it's as good as some are saying, I will make a move if there's a significant difference. I'm just not sure there's going to be a justification to pay the premium.

This^

if your optimized with your current set up. Will be minor improvements if any and possible trade offs.

I am definitely going to hit it and compare it to my Proto+ and SIM2MAx which are both optimized.

Nice thing is we can swap the Proto shaft right in the fit and then dial the swing weight with the weight ports.
