Why is gen4 wood significantly cheaper than tsi or sim2? Trying to grab market shares?

Yes, grabbing market share and no middlemen to deal with since DTC, allows them to adjust pricing...I paired my Gen4 X with a Graphite Design Tour AD BB which I've had for years and its a straight bomber...

I mentioned in another thread that the price is worth tinkering on a gen4. I did that. Took a whim on an XT and it's a bomber. Sold my SIM2 the following week. I've got it paired with a HZRDUS blue PVD 6.5. It's long and incredibly forgiving.

For the prices they're going for, again, its worth a shot IMO. PXG claims to be financially free of debt and often broadcast as the only distributer for their clubs. Therefore they can sell competitively.

I got a 5W with diamana s+ and I can’t get it in the air. No issues w other 5W.

maybe it’s the shaft….

What’s crazy. I have the Proto 5w with that shaft and I can hit it high or low or fade or draw. Not going anywhere.

Did swap the S+ from my 3 wood though.

Anyone familiar with FedEx tracking?

Mine was delayed - of course. This morning it shows “on truck for delivery.”

But it says that it’ll be delivered by tomorrow by 8pm. Wtf?

FedEx sucks 🙂 They have lost my last two shipments and officially declared them lost and started the refund process. Then out of now where my clubs arrive.

Had my first ever dance with pxg today, since we rarely see the product up here in Canada I was fortunate enough that pxg came out to my local club for fittings today. I have to say. The irons specifically the Gen 4 st is unbelievable. Best feeling irons I think I've ever hit and yes being a club ho I go thru alot of clubs a year. The 0211st is also incredible. Honestly the whole lineup in the Gen 4 was fantastic and I love the new look of the driver/fairway. The main thing for me was turf interaction because I had issues with the gen2 irons and I have to say it was night and day difference. Well done pxg, I will definitely be ordering the full bag deal they have going on right now.

For those who upgraded irons from G3 to G4, are there any noticeable differences? I loved the G3 P’s but, for me, they’re pretty far back in the distance category compared to Apex, P790, and other distance irons.

It depends on how you adjust the lofts. Apex 21 lofts are a bit too strong for me, a half-degree stronger than Gen 3 P in mid irons, and 1.5 degrees stronger in the wedge. I had them weaken the Apex wedge to 45, as a 43 degree PW is a 9 iron. No thanks. The Gen 3 P lofts are already strong.

Still, the Gen 3 P is quite long for

me, the same distance-wise as Apex 21 in a couple of testing sessions, but the PXG feels better, spins better, stops better. I don’t go for the p790 because it seems to get more distance by lowering spin, which I don’t want in an iron.

After an extensive 2 days of fitting. Ordered myself a full set of pxg clubs. Could be personal preference but I ended up going with the 0211st irons and the forged wedges instead of the gen4 st and sugar daddy's because I honestly believe after 2 days of hitting they actually feel better. For the price, the 0211st and the forged wedges are absolutely ridiculously good. Went with the Gen4 xt driver and 2 fairways. The fairways are probably the best feeling/sounding fairways I've hit this year.

Ended up returning my 0811X Gen 4 driver.  Very good driver, but just couldn't beat out my Max LS.  About 5 yards shorter in distance, on average, and less consistent on mishits.

  • 4 weeks later...

My first post and thought I’d use it to share my experience with PXG.  It all started back in April when I had my first fitting and ended up getting a Proto+ driver with the HZRDS smoke yellow 60 gram shaft and gen 3 irons 4-5 P and 6 - GW T with steelfibre I 95 shafts.  Loved the clubs so much I decided to add a Proto 3 and 5 wood (HZRDS smoke yellow 79 gram shafts), and a 54 and 58 degree Forged wedges (with the stock wedge shafts).

I came from G410 driver and woods and 718 AP2’s.  I found the new clubs to be a pretty good improvement and while I did not gain much in terms of distance, I did find my dispersion to be better and was much happier with the ball flight I was seeing from the PXG’s (and I love the feel of the Gen 3 irons)

Fast forward to November when I went down to the US on a quick trip and managed to secure another PXG fitting where I was hoping to try the Gen 4 woods and SD wedges. I love my Gen 3 irons too much still and just don’t see the need for replacement.  While I was not thinking of changing the 3 and 5 wood I still thought I would try out the new XF fairways as well as the regular Gen 4 fairways.  I also wanted to try a different driver as my Proto+ is lofted down to 9 degrees and I was wanting to try out the 9 degree heads.

The fitting went amazing and I left with a few surprises.  I found the Gen 4 woods (drivers and fairways) to be awesome and was much happier with the ball flight that I was getting.  I went into the fitting expecting to get the Gen 4 X driver with the same shaft, but quickly realized that this was not the club for me and found the XF to be much better.  However, with my driver swing speed hovering around105, the fitter thought we would try the XT head and while I was skeptical, we found that the XT 10.5 lofted down to 9.75 with a Tensei Blue to be the best combination in terms of overall distance and also dispersion.  I have to say this was a great club to hit and I could not believe how much better I hit it over my Proto+ and also the gen 4 x. Compared to the XF, the biggest difference was spin.

For fairway woods I tend to usually only hit my 5 wood from the deck and hit my 3 wood off the tee on shorter par 4’s and some par 5’s. When we tried the XF 3 wood I started by hitting it from the deck and commented to the fitter to see some bad shots.  My first hit was a huge surprise and found the ball fly off the club to be like my Proto five wood from the deck with great distance.  Through out the 3 wood fit, I found this club to be consistent and again I loved the ball flight and the best result was when we decreased the loft by .75 degrees. Compared the XF to the Gen 4 regular 3 wood and the difference was huge. The regular gen4 3 wood was easier to hit than my Proto, but not by much and I found the Proto 3 wood to be very similar to the regular Gen4 3 wood.  Next came the gen 4 XF 5 wood (again with the Tensei blue lofted down again and I saw very similar results when comparing to my Proto.

After sorting the woods we moved onto the wedges and found the results for the SD wedges to be similar to my forged wedges, but then my fitter got me to try the SD wedge set up from his bag and wow did he get this right, I just found the weighting of his set up to be perfect for my swing and timing.  After trying  this wedges it was a quick and easy decision to duplicate what he had in the wedges and so I ended up getting a 50, 54, and 58 SD’s 1 degree flat with the Dynamic Gold s400 shafts.

Thinking things were done the fitter reminded me that we still had one more club to go in order to secure the 7 club special and so I thought I could try and see if we could improve on my gapping between my 4 iron and 5 wood (find a better 4 iron replacement).  We initially tried a 7 wood and while I liked it I was just not seeing improvement in consistency (also tried gen 4 4 irons and did not see much difference to my Gen 3 P). We moved on to hybrids (I don’t hit hybrids and like some others have the fear of missing left issues and this tend to stay away from hybrids as my fear tends to be my miss). Of course I warned the fitter of my fears and he handed me a 22 degree XF hybrid with the Tensei blue to try.  I probably hit 10 shots in a row and not one of them hinted at missing left. The flight was fantastic and I loved everything about this gen4 hybrid, but it sounded a bit off for me (first time in the fitting I made this comment). Given my comment, we tried the reg gen 4 hybrid and while I hit it well, the results were no where near what the XF was showing (sounded way better though) So we went back to the XF and he played with the weights a little from what he had it and we saw a huge improvement in sound, but could not beat the results I was getting with the set up where we found the best results.  It was at this point where I told the fitter to let me the set up that gave the best results again and even though the sound was still there, the ball flight I was getting did not change from what I initially saw and so I told the fitter that I did not care about the sound as the results were amazing. For those that care the sound issue came when we put the heavy weight forward and this is what I ended up ordering.

Overall a great fitting that was topped of by the delivery of the clubs one week to the day from my fitting day. Unfortunately, I have to wait until my next trip down to play with these new clubs.

Sorry for the long first post, but happy to give more details if anyone is interested.  For those that have not tried the XF woods, I highly recommend giving them a try.
