Jon Rahm to Callaway

It’s not largely irrelevant when it’s a bad trend with Callaway over multiple years. There’s a reason why half the European Tour winners this year don’t play the Callaway ball when they play a Callaway driver. “The ball must be a fit” doesn’t matter for the stars when they are backing up the Brinks truck for you. You take a risk that the ball will work out because you are getting millions a year. If the ball doesn’t fit, maybe he can back out of the deal like Sergio did.

Tiger is hurt now, but he’s also played incredibly well for a year and a half post-Nike. From the 2018 Open Championship to the 2019 Presidents Cup, you could argue he was the best player in the world. And Tiger didn’t go all-in with TaylorMade; he played with the Bridgestone ball.

Callaway also has multiple iterations of their tour ball. I've heard the new Chrome Soft X is going to be incredibly firm and low spinning, like a Left Dash ProV1X.

Most companies do.  It's pretty easy for OEM's to make various versions of their ball.  It will be interesting to see if tour players gravitate to a firmer/lower spinning ball due to the chase for Bryson distance.

I don’t think the new x will be to that extreme but there will be an additional ball in the chromesoft line similar to the tp5x.

Looks like the new apex pro. With the new utility that came out already, and then the new epic driver or fairway. Can’t tell if that’s the fairway or driver headcover

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Apex club is the new Apex players style (more iron like) hybrid.

This times 1000. Honest answer. Sheeple.

Whenever this topic comes up, I always think of the time there was a foursome of women in their mid to late 50s in the group ahead of ours.    I don't think any of them could hit it more than 150, but at least two of the bags had all of the same Vr heads that Tiger was playing at the time.    It was shocking that neither had Frank on board.

That aside, I think for most adult players it's not so much about playing the same clubs as we tend to project how we feel about that person - good or bad - onto their sponsors enough to where you'll give their stuff a try.

Keeping it to golf, I don't buy Ketel One because Arnie drank it, but the association prompted me to give it a try.    I know that for me, some influencers can have the opposite effect... maybe not to boycott level, but to where I'll first exhaust other options.

I think it's a change that makes sense. I know for sure that the XR16 SZ and (maybe?) the Epic SZ really did have a CG below the club's equator or zero line, but the 3 most recent SZ heads have not.

Looks like Phil M is hitting the new driver in his latest Instagram post so assume Rahm has the same in his bag.

I think that Rahm will be fine.  Callaway should be able to get him into a ball that he likes (whether it is the new ball or a one-off just for him), irons and wedges should be a smooth transition based upon what he was playing, and every major manufacturer has something in their respective metal-wood lines that the better players can hit bombs with.  Money aside, I don't think that these guys take these changes lightly given how much money they play for on a weekly basis.  Bad equipment changes/deals can make a big difference on the money list(s).  He played Titleist woods (at least a driver) during his last year at ASU and transitioned well into TM products, so just as it has been with most equipment overhauls with top PGA players in recent years, it will mostly be about the golf ball.

I can think of a few examples with the ball - McIlroy, Kyle Stanley, Sergio - which tends to wreak havoc at least at the beginning of the switch.  Ryan Palmer has been on record on his position on club deals and playing what he wants without being contractually obligated to put something in the bag that he isn't comfortable with.  When you listen to the pros talk about the golf ball, it is mostly about spin and hitting certain windows.  It should be interesting to watch, and I'm definitely keeping eyes and ears open to more equipment changes/notes/re-ups especially coming up on the Hawaii swing.  This is always a fun time of year in the golf equipment world.

Only see two jailbreak posts in the sole compared to four for retail, but it does say jailbreak speedframe.

Like the front weight and no slider in the rear...much like the SZ.

Looking to try this one out!

Honestly, i'm just happy he has matching colors now, lol. The thought of his red MCC grip and gunmetal/green Aldila shaft getting stuck in the last 3 Taylormade wood color schemes has made me antzy. 😆

Also as far as i'm concerned, that big green rectangle on the toe side of the sole is just a lead tape holder.

That Epic Speed TD looks awfully lot like the Mavrik TD just with different sole. It even doesnt have the adjustable weighting in the rear which would lead me to believe it's pretty much the same just with the cosmetics carried over for marketing purposes to Cally can say 'look the Pros are playing the 2021 Epic line'.

Wouldn't surprise me if that's the case. The Mav 3D is amazing.
