The older XK heads were Callaway X-20 Pro (or maybe X-18 pro) clones.   One of the things I like about the XV series Acers is that they broke away from being clones of an OEM iron.

I have a set of these heads.  Played them off and on for several years. They are perfectly serviceable heads.  I doubt they will be all over the place as far as weight and loft and lie.  Hireko genera

Hireko Golf (owner of the Acer brand) actually makes some pretty nice and useful stuff.  It's no frills on graphics and cosmetics but they work.  I can't speak to the XV, but in 2014 I played the previous generation XS Professional irons for a season and they were pretty great.  That said, they're inexpensive and there are some negatives that come with that.  Inconsistent head weights for one which can cause problems during the built with swingweighting.  And lofts and lies are going to be all over the place you can almost count on that so those will need to be adjusted.  Some places, like ValueGolf which stocks the XV can hand pick for weights on request I believe so that can help.

I might see if I can find the original posts...

And I found where he started the process.  Should be this post (let's hope the Share link works)

I played Acer XK Pros for several years and loved them.  I only sold them because the grooves were pre-2010 and I had an itch to get new clubs.

What is the flight like and can you shape them ok? Are they a soft-ish feel? And is distance ok as there are on the weaker side with lofts? Thanks

They were weaker lofts and distance was on par with most clubs of the era before the thin-face irons became vogue.  The head length was relatively compact but not like a true blade of the era.  The offset was minimal.  I don't shape my shots per se, but I suspect it's do-able.   As for feel, no surprises, it was not a soft feel.  As someone else posted, they were basically clones of X-20 Callaways and extremely forgiving.  Sad to say, if you're looking for these, I'm not seeing many on eBay.

Take a look at the old King Cobra SS-I irons and tell me they don't look like Ping I/3's.  The OEM's copy the crap out of each other.  To your point though, I would rather some component manufacturers come up with original designs.

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open. GolfWRX was on-site Tuesday to catch a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers.

The field of 144 is getting ready to battle starting Thursday for the $7.7 million purse, with $1.386 million going to the winner. The tournament is also the last event where players can qualify for The Masters, just like Canadian Corey Conners did last year.
