Ebay Transaction

I am going through a nightmare with eBay. I sold a set of Brand new Muira Baby Back (which I later sold here - Thanks guys).

The guy who bought them got them on Saturday, contacted me on Monday pleased as punch, thanking me for quick, shipping, etc.

3 days later he requests a return for item not as described. (obviously, he either cant hit a blade and figured that out, he had buyers remorse, or his wife got mad)

I file a complaint with eBay saying that he was abusing the process

He backs off saying they weren't as described that they were to upright for him

eBay tells me not to do anything until they resolve the situation.

eBay sends me a notice saying not to do anything that the case will be decided in 2 weeks

I receive the clubs back and start to wait to see how it is resolved

As I wait, the guy leaves me negative feedback (eBay says they cant remove because the buyer says no and that I have a 95.5% feedback rating and that is good anyway - 1st negative feedback ever)

eBay issues a refund without warning after 2 days, not 2 weeks - I call eBay who says the person who issued the refund made a mistake

OK, I figure, I should have sold them on GolfWRX anyway

I contact eBay to refund my final value fee $175.00

eBay then informs me that because they issued the refund (after instructing me not to) that they cant refund my fees.

eBay has no customer service. They don't have a clue what they are doing including the "supervisors". I have been told 3 times I would get a call within 24 to 48 hours only to never receive a call.

I am finished with eBay.

If anyone has any advice let me know.

Sorry for the rant

I’ve heard some having luck contacting them via Facebook or Instagram, or at least getting a response that way.

As for the final value fee, sadly I think you may have to eat that.  At this point with eBay there is only one way to handle an item not as describe complaint.  Have time return and issue a refund.  Sellers lose in this situation 99.8% of the time.

The only chance I see of you getting the FVF back is if you actually connect with somebody and as you’ve seen, that’s a nightmare.  I wish I had better news for you but I’ve been there too.  Sadly there is no standing in principal there, it’s a buyers marketplace in terms of leverage.  good luck!

Had same experience. Buyer bought mp20 off me, messaged they were so excited. After a week I left positive feedback then he messages me saying lofts And lies are off and he wants a full refund. I stuck to my guns and said he already hit them and forged irons can move slightly over time. I offered him $20 to get the lie loft fixed at his fitter and he agreed. After I refund $20 he said thank you. Next day he said I want 20% back. I was done at that point and called eBay and filed a claim for fraudulent buyer. Buyer left me my first negative in 15 years but eBay sided with me. Seems to be a lot of scammers out there now so be careful.

on another case eBay should refund the final value fee, so I’d keep calling.

My most recent sale on eBay will definitely be my last.  Long story short, buyer trying to use the “not as described” to get a partial or full refund and keep the item.  They opened a return request.  Tried to resolve through several messages back and forth along with many pictures along with emails from the club manufacturer verifying the club.  Buyer kept replying that they are just doing as directed by eBay.  I wasn’t going to be manipulated by him or ebays policies so I clicked on “accept return”.  The next day the buyer cancelled the return, which closes this and any further attempts by the buyer at returning or trying to receive a refund.  Haven’t heard a peep since.

Problem with eBay is they are 100% supporting buyers with ZERO protection for sellers.  This is well documented and buyers are well aware this.  They use the “not as described” and also ebays ridiculous “satisfaction guarantee” policies to their advantage.  It basically makes eBay a giant free rental program for buyers.  Bad part for the buyers is you refund the original price, plus the original shipping fees and on top of that you have to pay for the shipping costs for the buyer to ship it back.  So you are out the shipping fees twice!

Ebay had its day in the sun, but ever since Amazon came along, eBay is on a steady decline into oblivion.

I’ve found that really the only way to respond to any buyer request is to tell them to send back for a full refund.  It’s basically the only option left.  Occasionally I’d get a buyer that would pay return shipping but I usually ended up eating it.  I decided that was better than being out the money and the item.  Definitely not ok, but the best of the bad options.  My selling is way down these last few years and I don’t really plan to change that.  I’ll just keep the club or trade it in, unless I know I can do much better selling it.

While ebay has its share of horror stories, it's mostly due to the millions of transactions a day.  It's still the best avenue for reaching such a large amount of people and results in a higher sales price after fees in my experience.  Heck, BST has a significantly larger percentage of shady transactions based on perusing this DoND forum.
