How many shots have you made from longer than 100 yards? With what club? List circumstances and golf courses if you wish as well as your handicap.

I've probably made around 8 of these over the past 25 years I've been playing. Shortest was about a 100 yard PW for eagle on a par 4. Longest was a 185 yard 7-wood for an eagle on a par 4. Ugliest was a skulled 6-iron from about 155 yards that went into the hole for an eagle and never made it more than a foot off the ground. I've never had a hole in one though.

I had what can only be called an interesting round of golf yesterday. Qualifier for my local open event. Shot 40 on the front and was right on the cusp of being able to reach the 10th hole - par 5. Water short and right and I aimed it left of the green and shoved it in the water. Made a good up and down for par on 11, then debacle started.

Good drive on 12 and had 117 into the wind and uphill. Hit a soft 9, but tweaked it left and long and I get up to the green and find out it's a penalty area over there. Drop, chip on and three putts later - 7. Then made a complete hash of the next as well and made double. Now +10 and bleeding out.

14th is a par 5 again with water short and right. My drive made sure going for it wasn't an option. Hacked it out of the woods into the left rough and had 99.6 yards in (which I'm counting as 100 for the purposes of this thread). Hit 52 and hit it great, watched it land a few feet short and roll on and I thought that looks like it's going in, then it disappeared. So I went triple, double, eagle.

Next hole I had 99.3 yards in and hit my 52 to about 5 feet and missed it. Made another nice sand save on 16, bogeyed 17, then 18 is 442 uphill into the wind. Hit a good drive and had 185 up the hill to the green. Hit 4 iron about 130 (hit the big ball before the small ball). 56 yards to go, hit a decent looking pitch, but with the hill I couldn't see where it finished. I'm walking up to the green and my playing partner says "where'd you go?" I said I thought it was pretty good, but I wasn't sure. He said "you didn't hole it again did you?" then he walked up to the hole and stuck his arms in the air.

I've probably holed shots outside of 50 yards about 10 times in 30+ years of playing the game and now I've done it twice in five holes. Unbelievable. And I wound up missing by one. Oh well...

Currently a 9 handicap. Been as low as a 5. I've played since I was 4. I've been playing as a solid high single digit consistently for 7 years now. I've never hole a shot from outside 100 yards

I think my longest hole out was an 80 yard wedge shot for birdie after hooking it into the water on a short par 4.

Why did I read this thread? Just broke my heart. Literally zero. My longest hole out is 79 yards and all of my eagles have came from putts. Only been golfing a few years though, hopefully they'll come!

Humble brag/update -

Added one more on Christmas Day. 155 out, off the fairway and had to punch from under a tree branch. Hit it really well on exactly the line I wanted... ball ran up on the green but I was worried it may have rolled off the back.

After a confused few minutes not finding it one of the guys I was playing with found my ball...in the cup!

merry Christmas to me!

update part 2:

Dunked a sand wedge from 110 at Mammoth Dunes hole 2 for eagle last week.

Zero, have a few dunks for eagle on par 4s but those were around 70 yards, but nothing over 100 yards

I can only remember 2:

A "hole-in-one" with a 58 degree from about 80 yards. it was a short par 3 course in the practise area of my old course.

A chip in from about 100 with a 52 degree after a good drive and a duff shot from the rough.

I usually played alone, so this is my only brag - the wife just striaght out isn't impressed with any golfing achievement, haha.

3 I think.  I was lucky enough to have a hole-in-one aged 15 with a 7-iron (good to get that out of the way early!).  Over the years I remember holing at least one pitching wedge from 100+.  I am a 10 handicap now, never been lower than 9 - but my iron play has been good down the years; it's always been driving that has held me back.

Speaking of which, my most recent hole-out (June this year) was quite funny.  A beautiful 8-iron from about 140 yards on Moray Old Course in Lossiemouth, started 5 yards right of the pin with a gentle draw, and I looked away to put my club back in my bag.  My playing partner shouted THAT'S IN! - so when I looked up I had missed the moment. The reason that I was slightly indifferent and unfocused is that I had lost not one but two balls off the tee of what is a tough par 4, so the shot was for a double bogey 6!  Somehow that almost makes it more annoying than joyful as it was such a waste of a hole-out. 🤦‍♂️

I've honestly lost count. Certainly over 10.... I wrote down all the ones which I can actually remember, and I'm at 10, and I know there's others. Seems to be about 2 of them every 3 years. I can only remember back about a dozen years. lol

HC floating between 2-3 lately.  Made 3, but aces.  Also, none of them were "well played" holes.

  • 6I from ~185 from the FW for eagle on a short par 5.  Hit my drive into the trees right and had to punch out.  Holed my 3rd.
  • 55* wedge from ~110 in the middle of the FW for eagle on a short par 4.  Completely boned it, line drive straight into the trunk of a tree in the woods directly behind the green.  Ball bounces back onto the green and rolled straight in at a speed that looked like it would have wound up in the front bunker if it hadn't hit the stick smack in the middle.
  • 8I from ~155 for PAR from the FW on a par 4.  Hit my drive OB left.  Second drive in the FW, then dunked it for par.
  • Bonus: In the category of beautifully played holes that weren't rewarded.  Hit a beautiful drive followed by a perfect 4I into a par 5 last year.  The ball took a piece of the lip out, smoked the pin, then bounced straight left.  It rolled off of the green, down a steep bank, across the cart path and OB.  Hit my 4th (which was the least focused provisional that I've ever hit) into a greenside bunker and made double.

I hit my driver badly on the first tee and was about 200 from the pin, then hit my 3W a bit fat, but the fairway was nice and firm, so it bounced and rolled up there anyway, and dropped into the hole.  So 2 bad shots = eagle???  Um, Ok.

During a company outing a few years later, I was about 130 out on a short par 4 and holed out with a 9 iron.  I felt a bit better about that one, since it was the result of decent swing at least.

I’ve been dry on eagles for the last 4 years, but I’ve come within inches to a couple aces.
