Looks good and love the Riptide shaft. Don't see how they could improve on the hybrids though. The 85 are so good.

Never heard of a heavier weight in the heel helping promote a fade but ok.   Maybe they meant toe?

I personally think the shaft options are pretty limited.  Was hoping to see Ventus and more Chemical shafts options.  We have a few at our club that have these already in their bag and feedback has been really great with them. Probably will be the first year I’m looking at Srixon for woods

So the fairways and hybrids are glued hosel then from those pics?

 

Absolutely HATE that. I have Srixon F45 woods (their last adjustable non-driver models) and still game the 5 wood but have moved away from their woods once they went glued hosel.

 

Why did Srixon decide on glued hosels?

I was wondering the same thing. I have an f45 and h45 in the bag and and made a small adjustment to the f45. I own the f65 but haven't yet put it in the bag as I can't open the face on it. They are good clubs that I probably don't really need to adjust but the mere fact that I can't puts me off them slightly. I was expecting them to go back to adjustability👍

Typically it is a weight saving measure. The structure for adjustable hosels takes a lot of weight and shoves it high in the heel, going glued allows the engineers to take that weight and move it elsewhere in the head to make the club more stable, forgiving, and launch higher.

I just don't get it - bad decision IMO.

 

What are some of the arguments for glued hosels....weight reduction with no adapter can be overcome with better design (as all the major OEM's do with some/all of their models), also the pairing of head to shaft being critical to the OEM's goal for playability (or whatever) assumes that you suit a shaft that they have available.

 

It's a poor marketing decision.

Fair enough but the bigger OEM's manage to produce great clubs with adaptors.

 

I think it is sub-standard design, their CAD jockeys should be able to handle this.

 

Such a contrast between this and their outstanding irons (that I love and play).

 

Their fairway metal and hybrid product manager(s) have it wrong.

There are probably ways around it, but all that engineering and manufacturing isn't free. Along with adding in lighter materials or more expensive manufacturing; adapters, screws, washers, and wrenches all cost money too and most adjustable fairways are at least $30 more.

 

I worked the demo day circuit for 7-8 years and the average golfer typically didn't care, and some didn't want, adjustable clubs. Most of them didn't know how it worked and didn't care to learn, they just wanted a club that went farther and straighter than what they had. Us super gear focused WRX'ers are a small percentage of overall club sales, so what we want isn't always what sells to the masses.

Maybe that $30 is critical to their desired pricing point achieving their sales volume.

 

I guess it is just a personal bugbear for me.

It's pretty funny. I remember when everyone was clamoring for glued hosels. People didnt like the look of the adaptors and what not. Tour Issue clubs were coming out with glued hosels (ahem TW), and everyone wanted one. Now that there is an OEM that has been providing a glued hosel...

 

People want what they cant have. Personally, I like an adjustable hosel. I like to tweak the loft and experiment with shafts. For instance, I'd love to grab the new 5w and crank it open to a 4w loft, but alas, it's not in the cards.

I am all for adjustable hosels in drivers, fairways, and hybrids. It is also a great way to dial in your gapping and to swap shafts!

Here is the only real drawback of a glued hosel.. Fitting and inventory. The nice thing about adjustable clubs is that you can have less inventory. Because you can easily and quickly pull one demo head and a few demo  shafts and swap one another and the buyer is banging away. With glued, you have to have a bunch of everything. 

 

Once fit, adjustability does not matter. But for stores and fitters it is nice.

For those wondering.  Srixon does not tip their premium shafts.  I called and they are going to change the website in the next 24 hours to reflect being able to tip the shafts for custom orders
