New Swing Speed Trainer - MaxSwingSpeed

OK, weekly update, I am starting week 3, and my 5 driver swing speed average is 106 this week.  So I started at 99, then at the beginning of week 2 was 101, and now, beginning of week 3, at 106.  Still not swinging out of my shoes, but definitely swinging faster.  Not sure it’s just because of the trainer, but it is definitely part of this.  I am hopeful that I can get to 110+ after the 8 week program.  So far so good!

That's really great work!!! Congrats on the gains so far. All things being equal 7mph is close to a 20 yard gain in distance. Awesome 👍😎👍

The beast has arrived, but alas I hit 4 buckets of balls yesterday and am old guy sore ..... working on a more straight armed swing ... like Bryson

I will get some swings in today though, playing a former PGA Tour course called Tiger Point tomorrow

The term you're looking for is "Experienced" not "Old Guy" 😂

Glad the trainer arrived and looking forward to hearing about your progress, thanks again!

i just ordered a used lefty 7-iron to help me get used to swinging from the other side. just doesn't feel right swinging fast from the other side when i have no idea what it feels like to flush it. i have a hunch the combination of the two -- regular speed training and hitting balls lefty -- will yield better long-term results than just one or the other.

wondering if other people have tried this?

Hey Hosel,

The idea of swinging lefty (or non-dominant side) is mainly to balance out what tends to be for most golfers a weak side of their body. It will definitely feel awkward at first as it's such a new pattern for your body to accomplish but over time it will become more natural. I broke my wrist in little league and started batting left handed with one hand so I could still practice, became a switch hitter and much better hitter overall and had no idea why until I came across clinical studies explaining weak/strong side training.

Golf and most things we do naturally become strong side dominated as it's just easier but to maximize speed, balance, strength and consistency you need to focus on swinging/moving both directions. If you're looking for another great example, it's to hear some MMA/Boxers talk about jogging backwards as they never train moving backward as often as they do moving forward so they gas much faster in a fight before implementing the type of weak side training we're talking about.

Will hitting balls with a lefty club hurt your swing/speed? I don't believe so as long as you're focused on solid mechanics as well as proper movements during speed training and not just flailing away. I've been swinging righty/lefty for a long time and have only felt better for it.

oh man, that reminds me of something i haven't thought about in a very long time. i sprained a finger in my throwing hand during fall ball as a kid right before a game i was scheduled to pitch. i was so pissed/disappointed with missing a start that i learned to throw lefty in the warm-up before the game -- despite very strong protests from my coach -- and threw a couple of scoreless innings before getting subbed out. didn't stick with it for very obvious reasons though 😅

just to be clear, i never thought hitting balls with a lefty club would hurt my swing speed -- quite the contrary. i reckon the better my feel for a lefty swing the more i can get out of speed training from the left side, if that makes sense. and the more i get out of speed training from the left side, the better the gains. just a hypothesis at this point though...

also, "daddy wants a new car!" 😂

Funny the lengths we will go to keep playing a sport we love. I destroyed my pitching arm in college one year and when I got home I spent the entire summer learning to pitch lefty. I was hell bent on making it to the show one way or the other. Glad I got a job at a driving range and found golf because 80 mph fastballs with no movement weren't cutting it.

Your hypothesis makes total sense, I truly can't see how being stronger and more coordinated throughout your whole body is going to hurt or speed or game overall.

The office workers have begun collections for your new car when you jar one lefty😁

Thanks for considering my trainer and I appreciate the compliment. You definitely need to do what's best for your body first and I hope you'll be ready to give speed training a try soon.

I would hate to hear about an injury because someone didn't take the time to asses their current fitness/mobility level before jumping into any type of training. It'd be like trying to bench 300 pounds on your first day in a gym, recipe for disaster.

Have a great day!

If you're interested in seeing someone (not me) with swing speed changes https://www.instagram.com/ckingstrength/ (see his insta-story to watch him swinging the trainer) sent me the attached speed tracking chart he made today. He's been doing great with the trainer and has been seeing some excellent numbers.

I'm strongly considering purchasing one of these. I was initially looking at a Twitch Trainer, primarily as it's too cold here to swing anything outside and my ceilings aren't high enough to swing something like this indoors.

I figure the Twitch Trainer could get me through the winter and I could order one of these in the spring.

Anyway it looks like a good product and I like the convenience of having one stick instead of three.

Thanks for considering it!

The twitch trainer looks like a good product too. I wish I had an extra 50lbs of muscle when showing off my trainer but at 6'7" tall I think I've got to much giraffe blood in me to get that HUGE, LOL

As a side note, I have cut down a trainer to 36" for a customer in Canada who is stuck indoors in an apartment. It may not give you the same speed results as quickly as a full length one but might be something to consider. If you're interested let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks!

Mine shipped out Monday or Tuesday. Should be here soon. I'm 61 in pretty good shape. Driver swing speed right now is 90-92. If I can get it above 95 consistently, I'll be happy.

Ok, start of week 4 and I lost a bit this week.  Average per week, I think is 99MPH at the beginning of week 1, 101MPH at the beginning of week 2, 106MPH at the beginning of week 3 and 105MPH at the beginning of week 4.  So a little disappointed it didn’t go up, but at least it stayed near my high of 106MPH and I am not even halfway through yet.  So it looks like it has some staying power.  Looking forward to getting through this week so I can get to some serious reps starting week 5!  Great product, really enjoying this so far

Glad you're enjoying the product and have seen some stabilized gains.

I know it's hard not to expect gains week in week out but speed training follows very similar trends to weight training in regards to short term gains. Unfortunately things aren't perfectly linear with progress. I experienced short plateaus myself but with continued work I gained more and then cemented those gains. Always hard to be patient for sure but you should be very excited to see a locked in speed increase and I won't be shocked to see another jump soon.

Really great work!

Thanks, I’m not that disappointed, and I get that the swing speed won’t go up every week.  I just want the overall trend to be moving in the right direction, and it is.

how did you do from the opposite side? e.g. tonight i was slower righty but faster lefty. little wins!

I don’t track the lefty swing speeds.  I only track the average of 5 driver swing speeds at the beginning of each week and my highest one weight speed on my last 5 reps as a righty.  Although the average of the driver speed went down 1 MPH, the high of the one swing weight swings was the same this week.

Just wanted to give a shout out to Maxswingspeed, After seeing the product on this forum. I thought it was a great idea. Much less price than similar products, plus its one club. I ordered after the holiday sale. I didn't ask for a rebate. I brought it expecting to pay full price. After the purchase, I get a email, giving me the rebate. Thank you Maxswingspeed. I have only used the product for a week, so don't know if I will grain a ton of speed, but it is great quality.

Well in to week 3 In the UK still no golf , cold and wet but the routine is now fixed, work get changed and do the drills before the light goes noticed the ground is getting hammer where I have been using the force to swing, but tight for cash so didn’t invest in a speed radar and with no hitting balls I have no idea about progress only the fact that the grass is disappearing !

the left handed swing feels weird and I have no idea how people hit the ball left handed😀

the thought is by the time we get out it will have impacted but one question I have is when you have finished the protocol how do you keep toned or carry on, which exercises do you continue with or do you use intermittently

let us know, one thing is though I am so exited about hitting that first ball
