How is the durability on these? They are $15 on rockbottomgolf and considering buying a couple dozen at that price.

Seemed pretty good the few holes I played them, sub 95mph SS here.

Is anyone else finding the SD Tour X’s just don’t spin quite as much as other balls?

I bought a dozen, and while I like the feel and distance, I kept finding pitches and chips not quite having the bite I expect.

I played the SD Tour X's for the first time today and possibly noticed moderately less spin than I am used to? Nothing too dramatic, It's tough to say with a small sample size, and me being a mid/high handicap.

I agree I did like the feel and distance. I'll continue to play them for the next few rounds to try to get a more conclusive feel for them. I was hoping they would feel close enough to my normal ball that I could go with these at $15 a dozen instead of $30 ish for Srixons. A few more rounds should give me a better idea.

Did you try the SD Tours as well? Bought a dozen of those but haven't tried them yet.

I found the Spalding SD Tour on clearance at a local Walmart for $6.25/dz.  At THAT price I figured they're worth trying so I bought four dozen.  If I don't like them, eBay could be a good option!

BTW...I've been a lurker on GolfWRX for a long time and finally decided to join.  I enjoy learning and reading all you guys' posts.

I too jumped on 4 dz of the X version at $6.25 per dz. The ball is decent but for $6.25 it is a fantastic value.

So I used these and found a walmart 10 minutes away selling these for $6.25 per dozen.

Makes me think, something must be seriously wrong with these balls right? Or maybe the quality control is way off? Why would they be selling a premium branded urethane ball for $6 per dozen, less than even the other spalding balls?

Because they’re last season’s ball and not the “newer” version.  The newer one has a diagonal band on the box and these balls don’t have that on the box.  Whether or not the balls are exactly the same and just a different box is up for debate.

Someone should tell Callaway and Titleist that 6.25 is the price to dump their off center balls...

The ones cut open in this thread don't look off center. These are marked down to $5 near me now, I don't get it.

That's just how things are when they're clearing stock.

The famous sub $1 USB sticks are just one example of the low prices they put on things when clearing things out.

Interesting point about these spalding balls. i have some RZN Tour balls as well and was comparing them. They have literally the exact same cover and dimple pattern, along with some kind of manufacturing number in 4 of the dimples, like "P713", in the exact same spot.

So these Spalding SD Tours are probably pretty identical to RZN Tours, maybe the inside compression is different. Rick Shiels did a video on the RZN Tours, probably pretty accurate for the Spaldings as well. When he cuts it open at the end it looks identical to the pictures in this thread except for the color.

Nah, they’re definitely different balls. I’ve cut them both open. The RZN tours have the waffle pattern molded into the mantle, and the cover has the micro-dimples.

It’s possible they could be made by the same factory, but it’s a different ball.

I mean I can take a picture right now and post it if you like. The cover is literally exactly the same, no differences at all. Every dimple is literally exactly the same and in the exact same place. I'd prefer you take my word for it but I can post picture if needed. Maybe the mantle is different as I havent cut it open but these are 100% using the exact same cover and therefore I would think 100% made at the same factory.

Edit - Held it under a light and was able to see the micro dimples on the RZN. Aside from the micro dimples the cover 344 dimple pattern is the same though, with every dimple in the same spot. So likely made in the same factory but a different ball like you say.

Peel the cover off the mantle, or go back and look at the RZN thread from last year. I posted a picture of the ball dissected. You can see the waffle pattern that's molded into the mantle of the RZN ball. The Spalding ball doesn't have that.

It's not that I didn't want to believe you. I've torn both balls apart myself, and found differences.

I am eager to try these balls on the course. With the help of Trackcoach13's link, posted upthread, I tracked down a dozen of each type; SD Tour at $11.50 and SD Tour X at $6.25.

So far I've been able to briefly chip and putt with them and they both feel good, albeit the X is slightly harder. They putt consistently, neither "jumpy" nor "dead". Spin may be a little less than ProV or K_Sig, maybe more like a Wilson Duo Urethane but it's hard to tell with my limited experimentation. Bottom line is, if these perform as you would expect a urethane ball to perform approaching the greens and they aren't distance dogs like the Top-Flite Gamer Pro was, then these balls are an even greater deal than the Kirklands.

For anyone wondering about these, played 2 rounds over the weekend with the x and regular and had some definite durability issues.

Played a par 62 executive course and was getting some deep gashes on the cover after a single iron shot off the tee. Went through 6 balls over the course of the round. I think they just have an inconsistent cover, as some balls would cut immediately after a shot or 2 and others would last 4 or 5 holes.

Something to be aware of...these are probably only worth it in the $5 to $15 range. They performed very well and had great distance, but that cover just does not hold up with irons.

I played these balls last weekend and all I can say is you get what you pay for

IMO these balls are one big pile of Monkey Crap 💩

They were at least one club short and I had to really nail it on the putter to get it to go

I would not recommend this ball at $6.95 to anyone

I currently play the Bridgestone RX and wanted to give these a try.

Good luck to all of those who like them and get good results from them
