Cobra RadSpeed, RadSpeed XB drivers (in-hand look)

The RDX Blue offered with the Cobra Radspeed is black with blue “HZRDUS” lettering. It’s pictured on the ProjextX website.

Cobra has done an amazing job with offering premium shafts as stock for a couple years now. The F9 offered the Atmos Tour Spec, $300 MSRP. Which in 2019, was a $250 upcharge shaft for TM, as they offered “made for” Atmos shafts in their M4 and M6.

Yes, what Cobra also did to offer a real Ventus Velocore with their Limited Edition Pars & Stripes for a very reasonable price is just OUTSTANDING. Think it was the price of a SIM driver....

It worked on me, I still use the Speedzone Pars & Stripes driver.

In contrast, TM also offered a "made for" Ventus Blue as well with no Velocore. That's just nonsensical and like buying a DeLorean (if you remember those) - all show and no go 😂

In the Cobra Q and A thread. They stated that the Motore X was the real deal aftermarket shafts. TXG also confirmed during their live stream this past Monday.

Yep - Thats why I sold my MotoreX shaft a few weeks ago. Great shaft but the market will be flooded with pulls soon in 2021 and they can be had cheap im sure

Maybe from Will Peoples, but that's all I can think of. I wish there was a better way as I have zero need for stock shafts or paying markup.

Any videos comparing the Rad to the 2020 Sim?

I believe TXG did a video with Rad Speed and TSi and another video of TSi and SIM. So you a common competitor to compare through.

I can give you my thoughts on RadSpeed and XB compared to Sim Max if that helps?

RadSpeed and RadSpeed XB were really impressive out on the course and think they are big upgrade in stability over the SpeedZone models, especially RadSpeed. The RadSpeed driver was so much straighter than the SpeedZone for me. RadSpeed was low/mid launch and seemed to be very low spin. Most of the driver holes I played seemed to be into the wind and the RadSpeed was the only driver, out of the 3, that had ZERO rise in the shots hit. Distance was the longest out of the 3 drivers I had on the course and even the mishits carried very well. Sound and feel are really good, solid "thwack" and you can feel the ball compress off the face.

I don't think I missed a fairway with the RadSpeed XB yet. One of the straightest drivers I have hit in a long time, the ball just doesn't want to curve. Shots hit off center still found the fairway where the other 2 drivers caught the rough. Launch and spin were the highest of the 3, but only really noticeable unless you were hitting into a decent wind. I saw the ball climb a little during a windy day but it still carried a good ways. Of course when the wind was at my back the XB was the longest of the bunch. If you are looking to work the ball, the XB probably won't be your favorite but if you just want to hit fairways this should be on your list to try.

RadSpeed and RadSpeed XB had the same shaft in them when I was testing.

Ball Flight:

RadSpeed (lowest)

Sim Max

RadSpeed XB

Spin (visual, on course):

1. RadSpeed (lowest)

2. SimMax

3. RadSpeed XB

Stability:

1. RadSpeed XB

2. Sim Max

3. RadSpeed

Distance

1. RadSpeed

2. Sim Max

3. RadSpeed XB

Off-center Distance:

1. RadSpeed XB

2. RadSpeed

3. Sim Max

Off-Center dispersion:

1. RadSpeed XB

2. RadSpeed

3. Sim Max

Sound/Feel

1. Sim Max

2. RadSpeed

3. RadSpeed XB

Hello Knudson - Was there much difference in distance from the SIM Max to the RadSpeed?  Same on the spin?

Thank you and stay safe

The online reviews mentioned the Lime colored one has both gloss and matte finishes.

But how do you know which finish comes with which model?

For example is the RAD Speed Gloss/Lime the RAD XB Matte/Lime and Rad XD Matte/Lime, etc?

Distance on shots hit low heel carried farther with RadSpeed than my Sim Max, prob about 5 yards on 2-3 holes where I hit comparable shots. Center strikes were basically the same distance, but the RadSpeed spun less. With shots hit into the wind, RadSpeed stayed on a more penetrating flight than SimMax.

Excellent feedback, thank you.

Just made it tougher for me to choose whether to keep my Max or go to a RadSpeed.  Very kind of you!

I ordered from DD. I think radspeed only comes matte. If you want matte in xb or xd you have to get the pea coat blue otherwise it’s a gloss. I think.....

Is there an advantage to pre-ordering? Would I get it before the in-store release date, or am I better off just going and buying it on that date?

Pre order you can customize it more. I’ve seen people get pre orders before in store but not the norm. I did it so I could get it built how I want, hopefully avoiding a back order if it happens.

Earlier in the thread I had posted pre-order on Jan 8 but I got that from a press release somewhere which was obviously wrong. Looks like it's going to be the 29th.
