Mizuno 921 Forged order and being in spec question by Club Champions

caller

Recommended Posts

So I was fitted at Club Champions and ordered 921F through them.

They wanted to sell me an upcharge build service but I declined it since I'm pretty much stock order.

They told me once Mizuno in GA finishes it, it will be sent to me directly.

What I found out after waiting 6 weeks, Mizuno shipped the set to CC in IL first and supposedly they checked to make sure this was built to my spec and CC shipped it to me in their packaging.

So is this normal?

I didn't pay anything extra.

Does this mean CC checked Loft/Lie/Length for me so I don't have to second guess?

I was hearing about Mizuno has been dropping the ball on making their irons to specs so I was curious.

Congrats on the IMO one of the best forged irons out (my gamers). Since you declined them to get the 921F irons re-built to spec by CC, seems CC submitted the order to Mizuno and they shipped it to CC first. Then CC to you. This is odd from my experience as you declined the service, basically green lighting the build to be done by Mizuno and then direct ship to your address.

Since it went to CC first for whatever reason, you should call them with the CC order number ready and confirm if in fact this spec check was done. That would give me piece of mind instead of hoping.

So you paid for a CC fitting and found you're "pretty close" to stock (which is exactly what?) and you now find they MIGHT have checked them to your specs for no charge. Seems like there's a "gift horse" parable that applies here?!?!

Nothing specific for CC, but my 921F were WAY off in terms of spec. They were anywhere between .5 and 2 degrees upright.

I was talking more along the lines of tolerances. Regardless, you summed it up with your next post. So, in a nut shell, IF they checked them, awesome! If not, get them checked.

Could have just been waffle to make you think like you got good service.

Could have genuinely been done

Seeing as you specified a swing weight i'd go get them tested at an indie club builder if you can .... loft/lie and length is a 2 min job, but swing weighting a club correctly takes time since that would require manually weighing each head and picking from a box to match, even the wrong amount of grip tape can change it. With them backed up out door and being realistic about the care and attention a low-wage production line employee is going to give to his 15th set of the day, i'd get them tested.

This is the problem, some are off and some are spot on.  The consistency that we have all enjoyed from Mizzy has been watered down with numerous posts on why.  In the end I am sure they are aware and are working on the OC end of this now that the initial BOOM PUSH to get custom orders out at launch is slowing a bit.

For me as a player, its all about making sure you have what you need.  I would definitely check if it wasn't confirmed by CC.  I actually had my builder order the speed irons and shafts, then re-build them, with loft lie and MOI match done by him personally.  Couldn't be happier with the build and piece of mind which is the most important thing at the end of the day.

I’d be at the range then the course, if you like them there then they are right enough don’t you think.  I’d be way to impatient to wait any longer for what could be redundant testing, testing which can point out differences in the equipment used to measure at the two different labs.

I was thinking along the same lines when the OP mentioned "consistency we've all enjoyed".    I have only had one set of forged Mizunos, but they needed some fine tuning and from what I've been told and read here, my experience is not unique.

Club Champion definitely spec checks after the fact on OEM builds. They obviously are not building them, so they can't control swingweight, but they will adjust loft/lies, cut down to length, and grip.

I was under the impression CC buys the components, has them shipped to IL and they build them themselves there. I thought it was their standard practice and how they do all the clubs ordered through them??? Is this the “build service” you declined?
