What’s the Best Feeling in Golf?

Honeybadger

Recommended Posts

It's pretty much impossible to pick just one - I love the feeling of any well struck shot regardless of club, situation, or what have you.

But, if forced to pick just one, it's sinking the par, birdie, or eagle putt on a well played hole. Consummation is better than a word that WRX won't let you post.

I've done a lot of awesome, enviable things in my life (legal, illegal and questionable) - but I've yet to encounter anything as satisfying as a perfectly struck 5 iron.

But I'd settle for the satisfaction for a perfectly executed shot

I know when I make a good shot and enjoy them as they bring me back.  Mostly they are 2-3 iron shots and tight birdie or par saving wedge shots that keep me in the game.

But the BEST feeling for me comes from when after I make an unexpected challenging shot, playing partners look at me and say, wow and shake their heads.  I can never get enough of that...

Never mind.

Saw this in Golf Monthly and I thought I would throw it out there.

For me, it’s seeing a par save roll in from more than 15 feet- serendipity baby! (Birdies are nice too). It’s fun to watch the ball track towards the hole and disappear.

I've always struggled with my driver's accuracy, so the best feeling for me is to hit bombs that split the fairways so I can twirl my club and Tiger-walk away before the ball drops.

Yesterday I hit a tee shot into the sun on a par 3. It felt prefect, sounded great, no idea where it went. Hoping for the best, I rolled towards the green and there it was, 6' from the flag.

I would have liked to see it, it's a narrow approach. But it just "felt" right, I knew it was good even though I didn't see a damn thing. 🤣

The single best shot for me is the pure iron that you barely feel come off the face and has the shape and trajectory just like you envisioned it.

The best feeling though is getting off the tee box well all round.  Golf is SO much more enjoyable and stress-free when you're putting your tee shots in play.

Absolutely this. The combination of sound and feel through a heavy steel shaft is so satisfying. Closely followed by a properly compressed forged blade or muscleback.

I purchased some Mizzy MP-69 blades this year. Can honestly say ripping a 3-iron blade off the proverbial "screws"  once makes me grab it time and time again on the short par 4s. It's such a good feeling it's even worth the broken bones on those miss-hits 😄

However, thee best feeling for me is setting up that short iron fade and sticking one on the green. The creativity of shot making is addicting and, to me, what makes golf.

The best feeling changes as my game changes.

before it was chips/ pitches to tap in distance for a up and down, then it was bombing a drive and plugging it in the middle of the fairway.

now it’s plugging the approach on my 2nd shot.

Just shows the enjoyment of this game changes as your game changes... It grows.

makes you want to get better(and buy better equipment).

I wouldn't say that this is the best feeling in golf but it's certainly a very underrated feeling (to me at least). Theres something super satisfying about being able to get up and down on a hole (or holes). It could easily be the make or break moment of a round of golf. Getting up and down early in the round will help instill confidence. Getting up and down mid round can really help keep momentum going. Getting up and down late in the round can be the last difference maker of shooting or breaking par, 80, 90, or whatever you goal is.

Edit - Just realized that this was kind of mentioned already earlier in the thread. So, consider this my personal elaboration, haha.

Getting up and down is incredibly satisfying and knowing that you're good at it takes huge pressure off your game.

It took me a long time to have it sink in that I could practise my chipping as much as I liked, but if I didn't also practise putts from 6' and less as much it was wasted. That changed golf for me.

I used to be proud that I hit 10 fairways and greens and shot 80 because my putting was lousy - too much listening to Moe. Now I can make my accuracy count and that makes putting exciting!

Getting paid

It especially feels good getting paid off when the other stooge weasels more strokes out of you than they should get.  My boss is notorious for that but a $5 golf payoff from him in my pocket always feel better than $100 in the pocket I earned working.

Hello there! I think that in all such sports games the best feeling is when you learn something new and you can do it! Unreal buzz! I'm not so good in golf so now I prefer to take personal golf lessons from instructor. I study pretty quickly, the results are good!

Lots to choose from

- near dead followed by an impossible Seve like recovery thru a small window

- the thump of a perfect bunker shot when you had to get it perfect

- a monster drive over a corner (trees)

If I think of all the cool shots I remember over the last 40 years of golf ... and with a gun to my head .. going with

-  a nutted fairway wood off the deck into a par 5 from 225+ that ends up inside 20 feet from the hole.  You took on the shot, pulled it off, and now you have the anticipation of making an eagle .. skins, bragging rights etc etc

Having a group allow you to play through and you nail your shot with them standing around. Bonus points for sticking or sinking the next shot when they can still see you from a distance.......all that is just before you move on and triple bogey the next hole when no one's looking.
