What’s the Best Feeling in Golf?

There are so many things about golf that I love.  One of the best feelings though is hitting a par 5 in two.

 

Best sounds: ball dropping into the bottom of the cup and the crisp sound of compressing ball with the iron.

 

Ah, serendipity.

Funnily enough; it’s probably holing a 30 footer for par when you’ve visited all parts of the course on the way…..

Knocking a bunker shot to kick in distance is pretty sweet.

For me, nothing beats the feel of a flushed, well compressed iron shot. The moment you strike it, during impact, sensing through your hands, arms and spine hitting the sweet spot and the shaft kicking at perfectly right time. The turf interaction, sending a clean and thin dollar bill shape divot in the air after pure contact with the ball. You feel the right sequencing in your muscles, kinetic chain working, the ease of it all in the motion. The ball flies off the club head like a rocket, dead straight towards the target, and to the perfect trajectory which holds. No side curve, no weak spinny shot that dies mid-air, just a strong penetrating ball flight that goes through the wind or whatever, and then at the peak of it’s height you start zoning the ball, the green, the flag, and the ball again…knowing that it will drop very close if you chose the right club.

 

Man, that is such a complete golf experience, captivates everything I love about this game. In driving, you miss that zoning in to the specifc target (hole) part, and in short game you miss the proud and uplifting experience of sending ball airborne to its full flight. Every shot, well executed, gives an awesome and somewhat different feeling though. Btw, after this opinion, is anyone surprised that I play Mizuno irons?😄

For me, the best feeling in golf is no feeling - that iron shot so pure and flushed that you don't even feel the strike. I think I've only experienced it once........😀

Long putt for a birdie or par hitting the bottom of the cup. Or the rubber  ball suction cup at the end of my putting implement as it pulls my ball out of the hole after the par or birdie.

The sound of the ball whizzing away when you've flushed and compressed it is just the absolute best.

For me, it's those rounds you have sporadically where you feel in (somewhat) complete control of your game. You feel comfortable over the ball, you know you're going to find the center of the face, you know your going to chip it close, etc. 

 

We all have our own version of "complete control". For some folks, it's shooting 90, 80, 70. 

 

For me specifically, it's just how solidly I'm striking the ball. I'm the type of player where if I'm swinging it well, I'll shoot even or maybe a couple under. If I'm striking it average, I'm mid-high 70s/low 80s. 

 

I would guess that I have these types of rounds at most four times a season, but dear god they're awesome.

When you have to change your course strategy because you suck less than you used to. This is where I am now, trying to figure out what club comes next now that my drives are longer and down the middle. It's been 30+ yard difference and that's like 2 clubs difference now.

 

Hitting the green is easier with an 8 than a 6. 🤣

Had a couple of eagles from 120 yds on par fours so that's probably the best feeling. One thing that seems really neat for me is hitting driver, seeing the line, picking up the tee then watching the ball land. Since I tend to hit low tee shots it doesn't happen much.

Lately. It’s been a really well struck iron    Does not feel like I hit the ball at all but carve bit off turf and some how big divot flys and the ball flight is right at the pin. Those days are great.  All I do is swing at the pin and let physics and gravity do the rest with the club with little strain

The best feeling is when you are playing your arch nemesis for scats and he’s the guy that swears he never gets a lucky break and you get all of them. 
 

You proceed to get another “lucky” break and have a 30 yard short sided pitch off hard pan to a pin on a slope going away from you for eagle and he’s got a 8ft putt for eagle. You hit the shot exactly the way you envisioned it and it goes in. He craps the bed and practically shanks his putt because he is in such disbelief. That’s on the best feeling in golf..the best feeling is that years later anytime I play with him and someone I don’t know, HE brings that shot up as it still affects him all the years later😂
