What’s the Best Feeling in Golf?

Until yesterday I would've said flushing a 3 wood from the fairway, but now it is the absolute thrill of finally getting my first ace after 28 years of playing golf.  It was at Admiral Baker South Course #3, 169 yards with a 6-iron.  I'm still floating....

The best feeling in golf to me is a appreciation of what this game is truly about… the 6”s between your ears and how you react to adversity… like Moe Norman once said, “ it’s all about an alert attitude of indifference.”  Perfection is unattainable in this beautiful game but that doesn’t mean we won’t continue to strive for it… the most mentally demanding sport ever put on the face of this planet… like most things in life nothing is truly accomplished unless you’ve worked for it..

A few comes to mind... 

 

1. absolutely nutting a long iron on the perfect flight

2. Making a must-make score on the last hole to break 90/80, or your target score

3. Hitting a really solid fairway wood off the deck on a rope towards the green

4. Towering drive carrying a scary obstacle (large body of water or deep bunker)

5. Making a long putt to save up and down

6. Walking down the fairway breaking up the morning dew

I'm very competitive, and I love the instantaneous "shut 'em up" shot.

 

Personal story: having 9 carryovers in a skins match with my Uncle and his friends, who have been in my ear since we basically teed off. I end up in the left rough off the tee, and I have one of them in my cart giving me a ration of s#!t for missing the fairway on the wrong side of the pin (fair enough, I had short-sided myself). I turned and told him I was going to take the skins on this hole. I get set up, proceed to hoist a 9 iron a mile high, and nail the flag stick dropping next to the cup for a blow-on-it-and-it'll-drop birdie. I made a few bucks that day and they all shut the hell up for the rest of the round and didn't bag on me when we played rounds later on, I earned a bit of respect.

1. First hole in one with wintesses yelling out loud.

2. Sinking an absolutely necessary birdie putt on the final hole to win the match.

3. Any perfect shot with a crowd of people watching.
