Worst Golf Gifts

What have you gotten from those that know you golf. But, the giver does not understand what is a good gift is and what isn't.

2 dozen Nitro balls, both bright orange! Of course, I still said, "Thank you." But, they've not moved from my garage since then.

Yeah man, a pen set. It sits in my credenza, in its original box, just waiting for the time that she happens to visit my office. Hasn't happened yet, but you never know.

I got one of those pocket knife looking "golf tools" from my sister in law years ago.

I got 2 of these the same year. I gave them both away as gag gifts. Maybe if it looked like the Caddy Shack Gopher I would have kept one versus a squirrel holding a plastic ball with a club up it's rear.

I have two of the 4 gifts shown so far.  The pen set is nice.  Sits right on my desk everyday.  Son gave it to me.  I bought the gopher headcover myself.  Couldn't beat the price.  It's on my driver in my bag in the trunk of my car right now.

No one really gets me golf related gifts anymore (thank God!) unless I specifically ask for something. However, when I was a teen I would always have random aunts and uncles get me these clip on towel/tees/ball marker bundle gift box things each year for Christmas.

 

I don't think I ever even opened one and would just throw them in the trash a few days after Christmas.

That's funny. No accounting for taste, eh? I'm totally joking, of course. 

 

If one of my daughters had given me the golf bag pen set, I would probably have it on my desk as well. At least then I'd have a reasonable excuse for it. 😀

 

"My mother-in-law gave it to me..." just doesn't carry the same weight.

These bad boys right here. Sat in my garage for a year , so I took them with me to the range to donate to the golf gods. Hit one with a wedge and felt like I dented the face lmao. Gave them to the kid in the bay next to me, made his day.

I kept a travel putter set my kids gave me only because they bought it. A few years ago my wife got me a handy all-in-one caddy thing that was very weird. When I opened the box she said "You don't like it do you?" I guess my expression was obvious, but I said something like "Well, it's not anything I would get for myself." She thought it was pretty funny and took it back.  We've agreed that she won't get me golf stuff and I don't try to surprise her with crafting stuff. It works.

One year my nieces were let loose in a golf store with a budget and got me all manner of silly things - from the 'silly things aisle'.

 

I can't recall it all, but I recall a monogramming set, Naked lady tees and special glasses the blue lenses to find your ball in the rough:

 

 

I was very thankful and not wanting to waste the money they spent I returned the items for some Pro V1s but did not tell them. 

 

I felt bad as they would ask for the next few years if I lost any balls,  or if I could find them all thanks to the super cool glasses they got me.

Any and all golf gifts from non-golfers are most likely gonna be bad. I've told those in my life for as long as I can remember. Do not buy me anything golf related I'm good on everything. We are a strange bunch in that we are particular in what we buy.

couple years ago - the office gift swap, got a well meant but unusable item.

looked like a one foot long mini pool table with green felt and one hole.

came with a little plastic putter and a little white ball.

 

asked where it was purchased so I could 'get some for my pals' - and back it went.

That's funny because I have the same! From a non-golf relative. It sits in my credenza and has never been used. 

 

My family golfs, so when I do get golf gifts they are really good.  Best ever was a powered pushcart.

I got this golf mug a few years back at my work, the hole in the bottom actually made it a bit awkward to clean. I think i did actually use it a few times though just to be a good sport

Ball Monogrammer, Ball spinner to "find balance", Novelty balls of all kinds, Eiffel tower tees, ball finder glasses, cheap optic rangefinder where you line up the top of the flag/green, pen-o-tee where the tip of the tee is a pencil, dancing desktop golf bag, golf billiard game with golf balls and rack, over street shoe rubber spike thing... and more...

 

That's off the top of my head without getting up and looking.

That's quite a list silly gadgets!  Do you fish also?  That's another sport with an endless supply of silly gadgets that you'd need another shelf.
