Pulling up to the tee of a championship course in Spain ( Torrequabrada in this case ), and the Marshall states: “ play was delayed earlier due to flooding so you’re paired with 2 guests from Munich off 36 HCP “. Their first tee-shot goes into the planter in front of the tee. At least not backwards. 6 hours later before we reach the 19th hole.

I've driven away on groups like that if there is enough room ahead.  Usually if you remain patient the group ahead of you will get up a full tee ahead and then you can bounce.

Last time I can remember father and son was in the woods on 5 both peeing and look for their balls and I just left them in the dust and finished my round with another single I was paired up with.  He was frightened at first because I didn't say anything (literally just drove off) but after the next couple of holes he thanked me.

Never thought of that but last resort for me.. At home I’d walk in but this week in Spain was unusual as there were terrible winter storms and all the Costa del Sol courses were closed, save ours. No sand left in any bunkers.

So the course was stuffed with people from all over. We were lucky to have booked the hotel attached to the course. Tough track but ruined with housing now, right up to the fairways. Cheers

Things within my control: absolutely flushing a drive 320 on a 420 yard hole, only to skull the wedge into the hazard

Things out of my control: slow players in front of my group who don't realize they aren't the only group on the course,  or really negative/slow playing groupmates.

The absolute worst by a long shot:  seeing the ball I struck make a bee-line for another person.  😱

Others that don't rise to the same level:

  • Nutting a drive on a course I've never played.....then walking up and realizing there's a bunker / pond / OB not visible from the tee.
  • Lining up a putt on 18 that's worth $10 but I have $5 in my pocket.
  • Realizing a water cooler is dry on a 90 degree day.
  • "Today is cart path only.  I am sorry we do not allow walking."

Worst feeling ever - city championship - played out my Word not allowed all weekend - best I'd ever played - usually middle of the pack but had an amazing 3 day weekend. Me and one other guy are going down to the wire. He is already in. 18th hole par 4 - on the green in 2 - birdie to win - par to playoff. Beeline a perfect 17' putt to the can when I needed 17'1" to drain. In the back of my head, I hear my dad telling me "son, never leave a birdie putt short" - now that's a bad feeling!

Btw - lost the playoff 🤣 - apparently, I used up all my luck on the prior 53 holes (54th being the short birdie putt to win) and the 55th went downhill fast!

Ha!

Happened today on a shaded tee box.  I'll bring a nail and hammer to start the tee hole next time.

I have been first out all week.

At least you don't have to worry about ball marks.

<edit> I don't putt on the frozen greens, but getting it close is tough on an ice rink. 🤣

-realizing when the ball is in the air, has been purely struck, is on a perfect line, that you used your 6 iron instead of your 9 iron...

I’ve done the exact opposite twice.

First time was at Pacific Dunes, second time I played it. Not having a great round, hungover as hell.  Get to the second par 3 in a row on the back 9 (11, ~135 yds uphill into the wind), and pull the 7i.  Stand over the ball and rip it. Caddy is telling the ball to go, go.  Barely clears the shyt.  He looks over at me and asks, “What club did you pull? That never left the flag.”  I look down and see a 9 staring me right in the face.

Second time happened last week, but it was in a scramble, and my partner had already put it to two feet.  Thought I hit moonball - looked down and saw the upside down 6i, not the actual 6i.

That’s bad feeling, knowing you out a good swing on the ball but a brain fart cost you any chance at a good result. Significantly less painful in a scramble than at a top-20 course!

So I started the thread “What’s the Beat Feeling in Golf?” I think it would be interesting to take a look at the opposite- a little ying and yang if you will. It should be interesting to see which thread ends up being longer.

My worst feeling in golf: 4 putting from inside 10 feet.

Been there man! Lol

When you show up to the course before the grounds crew. 🤣

I didn't know they even closed the parking lot. I felt bad because I was 10 minutes late yesterday. There is usually someone here by now, I thought.
