Jr Golf Clubs for Tournament play

My 8 yo son has the Cobra King Jr box set of clubs at this time. He is out growing them quickly, and his game is also improving at the same rate. He is wanting to get into some tournaments when the weather turns next year and I’m debating what’s clubs to get next.

I have looked into Flynn clubs and Ping Prodi G sets.

What are the thoughts on those sets and/or any other recommendations

When it comes to junior kids golf clubs Flynn golf and US kids tour TS3 irons are way better then anything else.

there also is no reason to buy anything else for any kid under 10.

You also don’t have to buy the whole set just buy the irons and maybe a wedge. When it comes to drivers and woods you can buy a oem head

Both are great choices, and you can add US Kids Golf Tour Series to that list.

There is no shortage of opinions here on this, but there are strengths and weaknesses for each of these brands.

Flynn Advantage irons are solid, Flynn Alto irons are better.  Flynn drivers and hybrids are serviceable, wedges are better.

Prodi G is very good across the board, and you'll pay a premium for the clubs unless you do some major deal hunting on eBay, 2nd Swing or Global Golf-type of online outlets for used clubs.  Their fairway wood and hybrid are head-and-shoulders above other for-juniors options.  There is no wedge lower than 56* in the Prodi G line, so there's that.

USKG Tour Series is a popular choice for juniors this age, and you can often find a used set in very good condition for about half what you would pay new.

Driver choice is completely subjective, but both my kids play Cobra F9 junior Speedbacks.  There are many who fit a junior, ladies or senior shaft onto an adjustable adult head (Titleist, Taylormade, Ping, Callaway, Cobra, etc...) with a junior undersized grip (Wynn Dry-Tac is popular and sized well).

For a putter, also lots of choices.  USKG makes proper-sizes at a fair price, as does Flynn.  The Prodi G putter is nice if you can stomach forking over $90 for a junior putter.  Sky is the limit here, as you will see kids this age playing Scotty Camerons or Taylormade Spiders.  Some cut down old putters to a custom size, but the most important part is that the size is right.

I haven’t tried Flynn and don’t see them in the UK.  Both my daughters play US kids golf, starting on the non tour and then the tour series.  When my eldest moved into the tour series driver we tried both UK kids models and the tour series was longer on the launch monitor (our local range has monitors in each bay.  They aren’t perfect but are adequate to be able to see differences between clubs).  We tried the Ping Prodi G also and it was longer still.  I had a hit with them and to be honest the Ping felt like a grown up one to me.

we ended up going US kids tour series.  If it had been just my choice might have gone Ping.  Don’t forget with the ping deal you get one free re fit if you buy five or more clubs (I think it is 5).  I am starting to see more of the Ping in bags of juniors locally and it is the juniors I think typically would have gone for “adult” heads previously.

My son has used the Ping Prodigy irons, hybrid and fairway woods for the last 2 years. We have taken advantage of the re shafting option and it worked out fine. He just turned 12 and is swinging the 7 iron at 73mph and carrying it 130 on his best swings. We are at one of the longer length setups in the clubs now.
As the highest lofted wedge is 56 I reshafted a 60 with a light graphite shaft for him to use. He has a cut down odyssey putter and a SIM driver with a shorter shaft.
