When it comes to shafts, 'better' is a 100% subjective judgement.   IF you really like the steelfiber's and they are a very good fit, then probably not.   The i-series are still popular among those who prefer a stiffer tipped profile.

 

But it never hurts to try other shafts.  Assuming you don't want to change shaft weight, recoil's 95 are still popular for those who prefer a little softer profile.   Aerotech also has the fc90's - which is softer tipped (more mid launch) flighted set.    KBS has the TGI's,   MRC has the MMT's and OT's,  Fuji has the PRO and MCI iron shafts.   Accra has some options as well.     However, most of those are more expensive than the Steelfibers or Recoils and are much harder to find to demo so still not quite as popular.

Same age.  Been playing the SF i80s for the past several years.  Have tried several other graphite shafts but nothing works as well for me.  Did recently try out a demo Mavrik Pro 7 iron with a Project X Catalyst 80 shaft (taper tip).  Felt smoother than the i80.  Similar launch and spin.

On top of what's already been mentioned, I'll add the new Aldila NV iron shafts.  Only in parallel, if that matters.

many good options listed above. OTi shafts are great as well. Get fitted for this kind of investment.

Pretty much the same age as well... I changed to the i95's a while back and have not found anything that I like better. They play very much like the steel shafts I used to play, but with less harshness and lighter weight. Recoils are nice shafts, but as mentioned are a little softer profile. I am a higher ball hitter, and prefer the i95's to the Recoil to control the flight.

Been using the recoil protos for 10 years and recently made the switch to MMT.  I have also tested the steel fibers in the past.  The MMT have more feel than the recoils or steel fibers.  They also seem to spin a little less as well and if I remember correctly, then are stiffer in the tip section than the recoils or steel fibers.  I'm thinking about getting a set of MMT for my father as well and he's 72 years old.  I would highly recommend looking into them.

If looking for a little more feel than standard recoil 95's, if you can find them - the UST 780 SMACWRAP shafts are also a great option. As always, go get fit. Have one set of irons w/ F3(regular) 780 shafts and find I can curve the ball a bit easier with them vs another set of irons I have shafted w/ KBS TGI 70's (also regular flex). Went to True Spec and one of the things I found is that the KBS shafts cpm to about 1 flex stiffer than the UST shafts.
