12* standard Mavrik vs 10.5* Mavrik Max???

Looking for some advice from the armchair fitters or anyone with experience using both heads. I'd like to raise my current launch angle without imparting too much more spin. I know, I know...go get fit. Just won't be able to do that for a few weeks, and that's what this forum is for, right?   🙂

If lofts are measured to be identical, the Max will launch higher and spin a fraction more than the standard Mavrik.

For some frame of reference, I play 9* Mavrik Max, and 10.5* standard Mavrik, so I'd say you are on the right track.

Thx for chiming in @jeffrey r.  Do you find the Mav Max head to still be more left bias than the Standard Mav head w/ the weight in the back vs heel? Any discernable difference in ball flight between your two heads? Just curious, but what lead you to have/keep both?

They are both great heads.  Mav Max is more "forgiving" than the standard Mav, but forgiveness and performance don't necessarily run in tandem.  Point being, I seem to hit the standard Mav better out on the course, during rounds.

 

Launch with the 9* Mav Max is pretty similar to the 10.5* Mav.  I don't have launch numbers to back that up.  Distance is pretty comparable, but the Mav does seem to have more potential for distance when struck well, due to lower spin I would imagine.

 

Interestingly, I actually turn over the Mav better than the Mav Max, even with the heavier weight in the heel of the Max.  The standard Mav is pretty draw-biased IMHO.  The Max is heavily adjustable, in that you can vary things.  Take a Rogue White 60 regular shaft that I use with the Max.  That requires about 16g total weight for D2 SW.  Callaway generally ships 14/2, which is pretty extreme one way or the other.  I have gone 10/6 in both directions, or even 12/4, etc.  I can never seem to figure out which I like best.  I think I prefer the more forgiveness with heavier weight in the back, but only if I am still able to turn over the head.

 

Bottom line, both great heads.  YMMV will vary based upon what your priorities are, and frankly, which you hit better.  Anecdotally, I have seen plenty of people on the interwebs who hit the standard better, and plenty of people who prefer the Max.  Hard to know where you come out without hitting both.  Good luck!

Took the 12* Max head out for the first time yesterday and it was stupid easy to hit. Trajectory was nice and high like I was expecting but not as strong as the 10.5* standard Mav head I had out a few days prior. I now have 10.5* and 12* heads in both models so it'll be interesting to see how this shakes out.
