Really TXG?

These guys just can't make up their minds if they are on board with the SST Pureing or not. First they have a video/infomercial with Dick Weiss singing its praises. Then that video goes away and they start saying that they see no benefit to the process. Now they put out this video where they simultaneously advertise they are doing PUREing but at the same time showing that it doesn't matter with this test Accra shaft. You know the video is coming where they show some "random" lesser shaft and how much better the aligned version is.

Right or wrong, just pick a side guys.

Just because someone has a conversation about a product or service does not mean it’s an infomercial or an endorsement of that product or service. Being sceptical is good. The data will prove if the benefit of the product or service has tangible benefit or not. I haven’t watched the video yet however I suspect TXG has an honest curiosity about the benefit shaft puring will provide their customers. I think TGX is quite above board in their position on most things. I think they are taking a risk doing videos which may go against the interests of shaft manufacturers that provide them products and companies that offer unique technologies like puring.

Yeah, I watched the video this afternoon as well. What i got from it was there may or may not be benefits, but, with a high-end/premium shaft like the Accra that was tested the likelihood of seeing an improvement diminishes.

I actually really appreciate the fact that they are being transparent and unbiased about it even though they offer the service.

Second all of this. I really think they're being more transparent about it than we can reasonably expect. With a high QC shaft like Accra, they're saying "save your money" or something along those lines. Now, the real test will be when they test some older, popular shaft(s) that a lot of people still use and testing whether PUREing those shafts makes a difference.

Accra isn't the best to do the test they did. They should have grabbed a proforce v2 or something like that.

Love to see this test showing the difference between pured and unpured; apparently UST shafts aren't the most consistent around.

I tend to like TXG... perhaps I’m influenced by that predisposition. That being said, I believe Ian’s stance for the last year has been “don’t bother puring graphite shafts. Yes to puring steel shafts.” As to the inconsistency, that’s just how science is man. You have a hypothesis based on the best available data, then you test that hypothesis in as many ways as possible. The path to a conclusion is often far from linear.

I wonder if this is a case of buying the machine and adding it as an option because certain customers are asking for it and other high end fitting companies offer it.

Anyone with experience in IT will be familiar with the practice of adding features that you don't really believe in because customers are demanding it and competitors have it. Lets them tick the Pureing box and make a little money on the side.

I thought the same when I heard it was an Accra shaft. I think the issue is they need an unmarked shaft so they can’t tell which is pured and which isn’t.

That is EXACTLY what they did in this test, neither of them knew which shaft had been pured until they opened up the envelope after the test had been completed.

That’s a pretty strong opinion!

You asked for my opinion and I gave it to you.

Consider that about a year and half a ago a hacker from the US travelled up to Canada to get a "fitting: , one to be featured as a You Tube video.

Ian and Matt recognized this guy has a terrible golf swing so they stopped the fitting video and gave him a half hour lesson (to try and get this guy producing a half decent pass at the ball). Later, after the technique instruction caused a little bit improved better QC Quad shot results, the naive consumer ends up buying a set of irons.

The point is that equipment is 1% at best while a good golf shot is 99% swing technique. Ian and Matt , just like Club Champion and other prominent "fitters",  are charlatans selling nonsense. I would respect them more if they sold technique instruction, because  the swing is 99% of what makes for a good golf shot.

While what you’re saying is true, you still need equipment to play the game.

@Fairway14, you act all omniscient! Every thread on here lately you splash your opinion around like we should accept it as unassailable fact.

If the story you tell is true, TXG did exactly what they have said they will do; tell the customer they need swing work not equipment. If the person in your story purchased anything, they made the decision.

I know. I watched it. Someone suggested they do something like a proforce, which is why I made the comment about unmarked shafts. I don’t think companies are going to be lining up to send lower priced unmarked models for testing.

I do hope they take shaft labels off some steel shafts and try that. I’d love to see a tour issue DG and some regular DG’s.

The guy in the video introduced himself and proclaimed he had bought 6 sets of irons during the past 4 years. The proper thing for Ian and Matt to do would have been to advise him to get technique instruction and practice same. But no, they sold him a $1,200 set of irons.

Go have a look at the video, it was posted approximately 1,5 years ago.

Ian and Matt stopped the fitting, held this guys hand for 30 minutes until they could get his 6-iron shots from 135 yard carry and 20 yard dispersion to 142 yard carry with 15 yard dispersion, resumed the video proclaiming "the fitting was successful" , and then they sold him a set of irons.

The first 9 minutes explain TXG’s view on fitting.

Just look at the title of the video and the comment from the fella being fit in the screenshot. He seems quite pleased with his experience!

They certainly had a recommendation on an iron/shaft combo however there is no mention, even in the comments, stating they sold Rob a set of irons.

I’m perfectly fine with them scratching the itch of my curiosity.  Do they do everything I would like to see, no, but my $0.00001 worth of viewing isn’t really driving their bottom line so I can’t really complain.  I view it as entertainment first, some education second, and then whatever after that.  Sounds like they will do more of these videos.
