Putter makers - what shaft & bore size?

Hi guys

I'm in the process of designing my 1st putter for my own use and looking at the hosel side of things.

Am I right in thinking that for a shaft that goes into the head at 90° I need a double bend shaft? Also, what sort of clearance do I need on the bore to allow for bonding the shaft into the head?

Curious what you ended up with. I'm going with .375" on mine to allow for some epoxy, but I'm afraid that may even be too tight for a .370 parallel shaft.

Went with a Ø0.375" reamer in the end. Should have the shaft this week so will see how well it fits and will report back. 

I'm now working on proto 2 so if there's any issues with the shaft fit on #1 I'll be able to tweak on #2 😉

Shafts are pretty consistent but it's worth measuring them to check...

I would go 0.1mm/0.004" over the shaft size, that is plenty of clearance and enough for a little epoxy (assuming the bore is plenty deep enough)

I think that you'll be shocked at the sloppiness of a prepped .370 Tipped shaft, going into a .375 bore.    It doesn't sound like much, right?  Just .005".   It is a lot of gap to have in the port that a shaft is set to be anchored into.

^ I'll echo Lamonts advice there, I do line boring machining at work on heavy equipment (bearing bores and pin bores ect.) And I'll only put 4 or 5 thou clearance on a 6" hole to have a pin slide in tightly but not have to hammer it in. On the other end, I'll machine that same 4 or 5 thou undersize, if its a press in bearing/sleeve. So 5 thou on a .370 bore seems like a lot, especially after you prep it and buff off the chrome as Lamont mentioned... then you could end up having the shaft not perfectly aligned when you glue it in. I'd probably shoot for .370 bang on, and allow for the prep work of the shaft tip. Maybe .001" over just to guarantee ya don't have to go back and ream ect.
