Possible Putter Change For the GOAT

In a picture uploaded to Tigers TGR Instagram and then relayed by my guy TW Spot it looks like the GOAT is holding some sort of slant neck while participating in a Member Guest Tournament down in Cabo. Very well could be someone else's, considering he's not even wearing golf spikes, but there is also the possibility of a putter change before heading to the PNC this weekend. Guess we will have to wait and find out! 1103031317_ScreenShot2020-12-16at10_25_13AM.png.e4dda184e9e9bed231ac4fdb3f0187e2.png

He does this all the time, experimenting with different putters off tour. He probably just wants to play around with many putters that he owns.
Can’t wait for tmr.

Cheers

Tigers mentality towards winning changed golf more than anyone. That along with his desire, record, and wins but him above anyone else. Earnings and golf growth exploded during his time. The allure of money never changed him and that’s happening to everyone playing currently. I don’t think bringing it down to a majors record determines the best. The wins, cuts made, dollars, interest in the sport-fans, sponsors, ratings, taking the game up, etc.-and the media made it so much harder. He made courses tiger proof them.

I agree on the reference to Nicklaus.

And this post is the definition of ridiculous.  If there was a picture of Tiger holding a shovel, someone would probably post that he was switching out his Scotty for a new putter.

Yet here you are, in this very thread. 🙄

At about :06 you can see the putter for a second.  looks like he is back to the old putter to me, definitely doesn't look like the putter in the OP pic.

I can't remember where I heard it but Brad Faxon always used his backup putter when he was playing golf for fun.  Didn't want the gamer to get damaged or stolen, he was proven right to do this because his backup did get stolen out of his bag once.  My guess is Tiger is just tinkering and this wasn't a place he wanted to bring the gamer that means so much to him

So much fun to be had when people pretend their opinion is a "fact."

Tiger & Jack both have exemplary records.    The fans of each can make a case for "their guy"  as the greatest ever, and it's fun, because it cannot be "settled":

  • We can't send "top of his form Tiger" back to contend with "top of his form Jack,"  playing the "back then" equipment and courses.
  • We can't bring "top of his form Jack" to Tiger's heyday to complete with "top of his form Tiger" using the equipment of that time, on the courses of that time.

Think for a moment of the precision which Hogan possessed when he had his bus crash, and then "Make the crash go away" . . . .  what might Hogan have become?

As precise and expert a ball striker as he was, with equipment obviously inferior to the present day - would modern equipment close the gap between Hogan & the others, or would Hogan's brilliance have widened the gap even further?

Your opinions are opinions only, not "facts."   Childish to claim otherwise - but egos gotta ego, I guess.

Are we talking about a possible putter change or a GOAT debate? Talk about beating a dead horse!

Whenever I see someone mention the word "GOAT", I get the same reaction as when I see someone write "Newport style" in the putter forum. "S***....this thread is done."

Lee Trevino, Tom Watson, Arnold Palmer, Seve, Greg Norman, and a lengthy list of others would be very upset at your valuation of their careers. That is, if they cared...which they don't.

Making comparisons across eras is always subjective as well as futile. Just appreciate the greatness of both, as the men themselves do, and leave it at that.

Awesome answer. Because if Jack’s competitors where carsalesmen then go look at his scores.

Its like saying Montana was a better QB than Brady because of the difference in QB protection rules. But the rules of golf changed for these guys as well as the leaps equipment and ball technology have taken.  Or wait Babe Ruth hit all his homers because back then pitchers through in the 80’s and now speeds are always high 90’s?

Or Mike Tyson would have destroyed Ali....  No wait this is just a rabbit hole that could go on forever and is pointless.

- Something that continues to go long off the tee in the fairway
- Something that is a fairway finder when needed and long
- Something that high, consistent and helps with par 5’s
-  Something to help with long par3’s and short par 4’s

-  Something metal, lots of them and go the gaps I need
- Something metal, 2x of them and helps me 120y and in
- Putters - limited rotation because I cannot afford misses

Golf is what you make of it.  Play grateful and accepting. We are all lucky to have it.

Rather than expecting lets all try and appreciate instead.

If you look at Scotty Cameron’s Instagram post, I believe the mystery is solved. Looks like Tiger was rolling a putt with Mike Thomas’ custom welded slant neck.
