Sweet set up. How are you liking the T20 wedges. Seems like not many people liking them for some reason.

Hey @sbjinx,

One of the reasons I held off buying new clubs for probably way too long was I simply couldn't see a tremendous improvement from my old wedges -- Titleist Tour Player forged, from a long time ago.  They have a tiny but rampant cult following for good reason, e.g. I went to a TaylorMade fitting and their rep knew precisely what they were, asked me to email if I ever sold them, and not first time that happened.

But, I'd worn the grooves off the sweet spot of my Sand wedge, so...

I spent 6 months hitting, deliberating, over-analyzing, and changing my mind about what to bag.. and which wedges to bag were the most important factor for me.  40%+ of your shots are < 100 yards, right?  I hit all the blades, forged CB and forged wedge options from Titleist / Vokey [ good, not amazing though ], Taylormade [ fine, but didn't love them, got a bit spinny ], Ping [ great feel, weird spin for me ], Callaway [ personally, i really don't see what all the hype is about, way too spinny for me, and once the novelty of zippering balls 20' back wore off i moved on ].  I didn't have a chance to hit Miura or few others, but thought about trying them too.

Then I got to test outside -- made the decision super easy.  Hitting indoors, even on toptracer / trackman is only okay.  Getting a chance to try outside, off grass, hitting into decent greens is basically the only 'real' way to fit, especially wedges.  Everyone probably knows that, so apologies if i'm playing Captain of the Obvious here, but it was eye-opening for me.

T20s were a fantastic fit for me, how I strike, etc.  My default flight is very high, and i'm working on being able to flight low because it gets pretty windy here in California.  Also working on being able to shape the ball, flight the ball low for a knockdown approach shots that'll bounce twice & check, etc.  T20s with right shaft [ Modus Tour 120 in my case ] fit the bill perfectly:  I've got much better trajectory control [ right shafts ], can shape the ball well, and plenty of spin, even without going to a higher-spin wedge shaft [ i custom ordered Modus Tour 'regular' not Wedge in my T20s ].

T20 imho closest to the unreal feel of my old Titleist forged wedges [ "Nothing feels like a Mizuno" true in my case ], my default my high shot hits & stops within 6"-2' of impact, and plenty of spin if I want it.

They worked out hands-down best for me, but as always hope you get a chance to hit them outside with the ball you usually play and see what you think.

Happy wedge hunting!

Thanks @BallerNate,

XMas came early to my house, and living in Cali makes it easy to keep grinding year-round.  Good luck with Ole Man Winter, and if you run for the sun don't forget your clubs.  It's cooler, but a lot of the courses here, e.g. Poppy Ridge, in stellar shape right now

Thanks for the detailed response. I’ve always played vokeys but looking at T-20s to match the JPX 921F that’s on the way. Haven’t had a chance to test the T-20s but sounds like I need to. Thanks again.

Awesome! I live in Canada, so the border’s still closed...but once it opens, would love to fly down South and get some rounds and sun in! How are you liking the TSi3 Driver & 3W...beauties that look like they’re bombers too huh?

Nice set up! I'm currently gaming

Taylormade M6 tour issue driver graphite design tour ad vr 6x

Taylormade SIM MAX 5 wood Aldila Rogue silver 7x

Taylormade udi rsi 3 iron graphite design ad 95 x

Taylormade M3 4-pw xp 100 stiff

Mizuno jpx 50 bent to 51, 56 and 60 wedges

Ping cadence tr ketsch heavy 388g putter.

Jury is still out on the driver and 5 wood. Tried so many 3 woods with no real success so decided to put a 5 wood in the bag. Have a Ping g400 max speeder evo v 661 x which could possibly go back in the bag. Hard to judge now and probably unfair as playing so bad. Probably been my worst ball striking year to date.

Hey @ap76,

The obvious answer is you need to play a lot more golf, get enough play to get happy with your ball striking, then make sure you've got the right gear bagged.  I'm coming off having my left ankle rebuilt in December 2019, and part of that was completely rebuilding my swing to fix a crazy Furyk esque loop and over-the-top move, largely from not being able to weight that ankle.

I used to just play 3wood + 5wood, largely same issues.  I found slowing down my swing was a huge step forward, then once I started to get decent swing grooved got into right shafts, which in my case made a huge diff.  Sure YMMV, but really the only right answer is play more golf then sort it out.  Stay with it and good luck!

I tried a lot of other woods [ TaylorMade, Ping, others ] and honestly was thinking about other options, then Titleist released the TSis.  Hit them couple times, and their feel, acoustics, playability are fantastic.  They retain a lot of that expected Titleist feel & playability.  However, the big update in the TSi imho is they're seriously hot:  honestly, I'm not a guy who expects to hit 3wood 235 carry - 270 total.  My Garmin watch is telling me I'm carrying that over to the course too:  regularly hitting it 260.  I'm also upgrading from 915 era Titleist, so stepping up to 2020+ tech was going to be a big update.  Very happy.

Awesome! Yeah, I’m hearing amazing things about the TSi2 & TSi3, so will give them a hard look when fittings open up in the Spring for sure! Will probably come down to the TSi2, SIM, or keeping my Rogue for another season...not a fan of the look of the SIM 2, but we’ll see.
