Blade look with a little more forgiveness

Really hard to find something more forgiving and as small of a package as T100/100S.

Pics below are compared to MP20 MB. The sole is fractionally wider, and playing T100S 2* weak less visual offset than the MP20s.

i've had excellent experiences with the following irons:

wilson staff v6 - very forgiving and great minimalist look.  the tungsten weighting is brilliant but beware their way of measuring length is totally different from other oems.  i bought what i thought was going to be a set that played off a 38.25 5 iron but they were actually 37.75 which was way too short for me.  they eventually replaced the set but it was a pain to deal w/.

jpx 900 tours - these are gamers at teh moment but i have recently incoroporated mp 18 mmc fli hi irons in teh 6-4 irons becuase the 919s were not forgiving enough in those irons.

MP 63 p-7 and mp 53 6-4.  awesome irons.  tough to find in excellent shape these days but a great combo set i gamed for five years.

bottom line for me is i will probably only play sets that offer some sort of progressive increase in forgiveness in the longer irons.  my goal the last few years is to make every club in my bag my favorite in terms of confidence and this is the best route for me for irons.  good luck!

I played blades for a couple years and decided to move to something more forgiving as I wasn’t practicing as much. 718 cb’s fit the bill very well. A good feeling club, great length and top line thickness, not really any longer but noticeably more forgiving. I was playing MP-4’s and Miura MB-001’s.

PS...I don’t see how anyone can say there is not much difference in forgiveness between an MB and pretty much any CB. Numbers might say something but I don’t know. I guess it’s like being fit, you can be fit indoors all you want but nothing replaces hitting the club on the course.

X Forged might be a good option. Pretty forgiving considering the overall size. The blade length is a bit larger than blades, but look great. I have the 2018 version and I think in 2020 they refunded the wedges to be smaller.

the other one might be the Srixon zx7. That’s a little more compact for blade length, like the p770 or mc.

This is what I went with. Surprisingly forgiving for what they look like

I did a year long experiment playing a dozen rounds each with MP4-MP69 (muscleback designs) and MP 63, MP15 (cavity back designs).

The only significant differences I noticed among the four models was that that the MP15 had a more muted impact sound (likely due to its cavity back insert).

Mizuno MP-64.  About as close to blade as you can get and still have some perimeter weighting.

Thin top line.  Muscle-back profile similar to the MP-4.  Almost no offset.

There's a reason Luke Donald (and others) gamed the 64s over the 4s.  Similar look and feel but just a bit more forgiveness...

Personally the MP20 MMC are the most blade like in their appearance at address.

Side by side with the MP20 MB they are incredibly similar.

as mentioned the T100 are another alternative but they are definitely a little thicker in their appearance and definitely sole. They are however pretty compact heal to toe.

Maybe the Blueprints or i-blade from Ping could be a good option too.

Also potentially the new Callaways. Literally is a true blade with added forgiveness

Personally I don't think any of latest 'Players' irons resemble anything like a blade, most definitely not the Titleist t100. Ditto MP20 mb.

If you want something that looks like a blade that has real forgiveness engineered in then look no further than the Epon AF Tour blade.

IMHO.

What was your typical miss with the mb? When you miss a shot, does the strike tend to have more variance in horizontal or vertical in relation to sweet spot of face?

Just picked up a set of New Level 623-M irons.  Technically they are blades, but more forgiving than I wouldn't thought.  Longer in length from heel to toe.  They are budget friendly as well.  Something you might want to consider.

Some fantastic options in this thread.  T100, v6, 718 cb, etc.  There are definitely some deals to be had on some great irons.

I’ll throw one more out there that surprised me this cycle.  JPX 921 Tours.  Sneaky good ball speed, great spin consistency with a blade like top line.

I guess it depends what angle the OP is talking about. From the cavity I would agree with you, but from a playing position some of them do a very good job of mimicking a blade.

If you don't mind buying used - The Apex Pro 16's are quite nice. Just picked up a set, and they're tiny compared to my old 2016 ForgedTecs.

I'm still playing my Apex Pros from 2014, haven't found anything much better (yet)

Most misses would be short and right so I assume it's off the toe.

Thanks for all the replies, have a lot of options to look through.

My advice would be to confirm same with footpowder spray test on clubface at range,   short right doesn’t always mean poor impact location, could be a face to path issue. Not trying to go down a real rabbit hole there, just want you to get maximum return on dollars and time spent. In my experience, several models a couple of seasons old by Cobra, Srixon, and Wilson are particularly good with slight toe side misses.

Mizuno MMC, either MP-18 or MP-20 versions. MP-5 and New Level 623-M are also great.

I second this.... and third and fifteenth... hands down... im biased because they are the irons i play. Cant stop telling ppl about these... Gi iron in a players profile. Perfect for me and anyone who likes that look but needs a touch of help. You can hit them dead straight or work them any way youd like. Distances are accurate. Find your shaft and play golf without worrying

Sub 70 639CB.  They look better in person than on the website and have a nice compact design.  In my opinion the feel is great too.  The demo program works very well and for only $20 it is a great way to try their clubs.  The only downside to the demo program is not all of the shafts are available.  If you want an even better deal they do have some used clubs for sale on their website.
