PXG clubs and playing partners

A question for people who play PXG clubs.  I bought the 0211 irons earlier this year at the $95 sale price and picked up a hybrid from the PXG express store on eBay and just got a decent deal on the 0311 gen 2 from the same store.

I mostly play as a single so I'm playing with random people all the time.  My irons are a curiosity because most people either don't know what they are or all they know is that they are super expensive.  I get it.  Out of the hundreds of people I've played with I think only 1 or 2 have played PXG clubs.

I feel the need to explain to anyone that comments about them that they were actually pretty inexpensive.  Cheaper than the equivalent Taylormade or Ping I could have bought.  I'm even thinking about getting iron covers for the 0311 so they're not as noticable.  I guess I don't want to be that guy who has more money than game (I'm just an average usually around 10 handicap golfer).

Curious what do other PXG players do.

I play PXGs and the only time I've ever been asked is by players that know them. A few guys were marveling at them and asked to him them and I said ... SURE! After they hit them, they usually want to hit them again and then I say NO! lol

I play with another buddy that has Gen3s.

We have a few friends that are Titleist guys and rip on us a bit, but we always take the money so that shuts them us really fast.

PXGs are awesome and really aren't that more expensive than anything else when you consider the custom fit/build included and the high resale value, especially if you buy them on sale like I do.

I've played a lot of brands including JDM clubs and I don't see myself switching out of PXG, they are the best I've used.

Ignore people and play what the f I want.

I've seen people suck it up using every brand on the planet, and I've seen people play extremely well with every brand, too. If someone commented on my equipment with regards to my handicap, I'd find that totally odd and would probably just smile and hit my shot.

Thanks everyone.  I'll try not to be self conscious.  The last guy I played with asked me lots of questions about them.  He was really nice and obviously a guy who goes through a lot of clubs (like me).  I don't think he was judging me; just interested.  Come to think of it, I don't really notice what other people are playing unless it's something I've owned.  Maybe I've played with lots of people using PXG and never even noticed. 😀

No shame here. People are usually in awe if anything. Not saying they should be, but sometimes they are.

it’s like driving a sick sports car... many stare, some give a thumbs up or "nice ride," and a few try to make comments, but deep down, those comments are 100% driven by jealousy or a lack of self-confidence.

it is unfortunately human nature to be jealous, and very few reach the point of maturity to take pleasure in the success of others, in fact, most only resent the success or good fortune of others.

there’s a reason the saying "hate me cuz you ain’t me" is a thing. If I shoot 100 and play blades, or have a staff bag, or solid gold clubs, it shouldn’t matter one bit to anyone else. If it does, it’s on them, not you.

I don’t judge people by their bags, or car, or their skill... only by how they interact with me in the course and their ability to play with A respectable  pace. Do I expect someone with sick clubs to have some game, yes, but if they don’t it makes zero difference to me. And I certainly don’t care what they paid for their setup.

Anyone strip the coloring off their 0211 badging?

Can this be done or would this require removal of the badging?

Does the badging serve a purpose or is it cosmetic only?

I’m less concerned about what other think than I am about theft.

I played the gen1 irons for a season. Did not get a whole lot of comments. Recently added a proto driver and gen 2 woods and hybrids. So close to an all pxg bag and I’m more conscious about it. But it wears off.

I had mainly positive remarks from interested people. Very few are aware of the great value these currently are at.

I think we all understand where the OP is coming from. Whether it’s carrying shiny new blades, staff bag, PXG, we get it.  Here’s something that has helped me every single time thru the years.  Stops ‘em cold in their tracks and you never get them asking about your clubs again.

When they ask/comment about your clubs, just say this:

These aren’t my clubs. I’m just trying them out today.

Sure it’s a little white lie but stops ‘em cold every time.

I know you feel like you are inside out, but what if you are really outside in?

you spent how much on a putter? Oh, wait, that was just coupling counseling with my wife!

I mean this is kind of a ridiculous topic right? I mean i'm not saying the OP isn't a good dude or mocking or anything

But you show up at most any golf course anywhere near a decent sized city and the parking lot is going to be littered with Mercedes, BMW's, Maserati's etc...Do people really act like they've seen the great while whale when they see a set of PXGs?

Our psychology is so weird. The cost of a set of PXG's is like the difference between trim levels of a Toyota Rav4. And that is the most popular SUV in Canada.

You don't need to be a millionaire to own PXG's. You just have to have a decent job and really like golf

Humans are ridiculous... it makes life fun.

I honestly get this feeling, the “you spent what on a golf club?”... it’s just human nature... honestly, I feel like it goes back to our caveman brains. We compare ourselves to how others collect and spend resources... I agree it doesn’t matter, but I also understand the feeling.

ive also made fun of a golf buddy who’s net worth is far larger than mine because he was wearing a $10,000 watch and his golf

glove was ripped to shreds... he was waiting on his mg order of new gloves to get in.

people are funny about money and appearances.

i also don’t think there is anything wrong with saying “yeah, they have some great sales going on right now... I couldn’t believe it and had to pull the trigger”... don’t feel self conscious but feel free to explain your thought process.

I could talk for hours on this subject, it's literally one of my favorite topics (bizarro human psychology especially when it comes to spending money and appearances)

I watch the same people that rush to buy a house at 100K over the asking price in a nice suburb, don't even get different quotes from banks on loan rates etc...then argue over the price of Milk in the grocery store. LOL

Don't worry about defending your purchases with your money.

My biggest concern about PXG pricing when they came out was other OEMs following. And they have.

That said I've only seen one set of PXGs in someone's bag.

My regular playing partners are pretty predictable in their preferences. So that was in a scramble.

Play them and enjoy them.

I play muni/public courses nearly exclusively, sometimes with friends, but a lot of the time with random strangers. Sometimes I get a few questions, always starting off with "are those PXG's" or something innocuous like that. It's almost always a question of intrigue, never judgement. And I always say I got it because of the COVID sale (which is true).

But I do the same thing asking people about their clubs, just because I'm curious. And because I'm always just checking things out, like "oh, you play a set gap wedge? how do you like that?"

Don't worry about "being judged" based on your irons. I judge people WAY more who have single set bags with matching company bags with their name on it and fully decked out in that company's gear (Titleist guys do that the most, I feel). Especially if they don't have the game for it. But if you're a stick, play and wear whatever you want.

I will say this. In my rural area I’ve never seen a set of pxg irons in the wild.  A driver one hybrid and a putter at separate times is the closest I’ve come.  And I love equipment so I notice. I don’t comment. But I look.

Occasionally  I will see someone with the PXG staff bag at the iguana track I frequent-

I figure they probably couldn't get on at one of the fancier courses in the neighborhood

Personally I think they might be the only club uglier ( the ones with the steam punk look ) than a VAS or Zing but if you like them you are the only one that matters

I think I got more attention when I played with some Eye 2 s  last week - even the club pro  hit a couple of wedge shots for old times sake
