Which Driver Shaft Is Your Junior Using?

Will do.

12 you male 5.1 125lbs. He's doing swing speed excersices 3 times a weeks along with strength training 3 days a week. He will be 13 in may. I'm going to set up something with our fitter soon

Curious where you are going to get fit?  Do places like Club Champion fit juniors only when they reach a certain age/height/swing speed?

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

Our local club champion said 12 years old and cool club said 5ft tall. I’m guessing most fitters don’t have shorter shafts for kids below 5ft tall.

Reading through this thread late, but I'll second the Golf Dr for anyone in north GA or Atlanta. I've known Chad for almost 10 years, and he's been awesome. He probably got me interested in club making/fitting as a kid. Always been very straightforward and reasonable.

We went  with the cobra Rad speed with the Fujikura Motore X F3 - Graphite Regular. Little stiffer tipped but lower spin numbers to about 2200 and dispersion. He was swinging 89 and 90mph club head speed with it. Can wait to get on the course and see the difference.

His F9 Jr had a wippy shaft in at and he was getting alot of ballooning 4500 rpm spin so we shall see

A fitted shaft is the fastest (provided that’s what you’re fitting for). But most of the time on this forum, we emphasize weight savings to try to get our kids into OEM heads as early as possible for that little bit of extra distance/forgiveness.

Which is a huge mistake in the development of speed for most kids.

Looking back, I should have just stuck with Flynn or USKG for drivers for my son.  After much tinkering, I've finally got him into a Flynn (stage 3?) shaft for his F9.  I should have just held off on the F9 until he was 9 instead of getting it for his 7th birthday.

It is so hard not to want to work on speed and distance. And I guess it's easy for me to say that because my son has always been one of the longer kids . But we have spend a ton of money on lessons and range balls trying to get straighter and more  accurate.

 Hopefully we are there

Just ordered in a Ventus Red 5A after trying out a friends.. Ugh.

Slightly lower ball flight than our Aldila, tighter dispersion, a little distance gain.

Early returns on the Flynn VT stage 3 shaft are good in my 7 year-old's F9 are solid.  I'll keep him in that shaft for the next several months, barring another growth spurt.  When he does grow, he's probably going back into the Bassara Lite... and eventually adding weights back to the head.

I tried the Air Speeder 35 R3 in my daughter's F9 and it was not successful.  She was spraying the ball everywhere and we weren't seeing any distance gains.  I put the Bassara Lite shaft, which is about 3g heavier, back in and she started pummeling the ball with authority again.  Adding weights back to her club will be the next step, but I think I will try the Air Speeder in her F9 5W at some point

Update:  After breaking the Bassara Lite shaft in a practice accident (daddy error), I reinstalled the Air Speeder 35 R3 into my daughter’s F9.

Thanks is to her willingness to practice and a good pro teaching her, she had ditched her fade and is now sending drives farther and straighter than she ever has.  I’m not certain if any of it has to do with the shaft, but her swing is now flirting with 70mph off the tee and I am eager to see how this combo treats her over the rest of this calendar year.

My son is back to being 15 yards shorter than his sister off the tee, but that’s more because of her recent improvement than anything else.  The 37” Flynn shaft has made him more consistent off the tee.

Update, daugher just turned 12, 60".

Looking like Accra FX140 M2 Senior (ebay bargain by the way) shaft with Cobra F7 Driver is in the bag.(not her F9).

F7 has 3 weight ports and her spin rate was lower than F9 and ball shape was incredible. She was able to achieve similar piecing draw she is hitting with her Flynn Irons. Couldn't get that flight with the F9 that is more back weighted. Club speed consistently  high 70's outside.  Who knows.

We'll See!!

My son for the last 2 years (age 12/13) played a Ladies Cobra Bio Cell with stock ladies flex shaft at 44".  But at the end of the season last fall, so November-ish I bought a ST190 head and grabbed the stock Tensei Orange in regular flex playing standard 45" and he's been bombing it.  Granted he just turned 14 last month, but he also had a growth spurt from October-Feb...where he grew prob 5-6" and put on 25-30 lbs :0

He's roughly 5'6" and swinging it around 100 mph

When do you make the shift from ladies flex to a senior flex? - daughter is young side of 9 driver swing speed probably around 70 mph plays ladies flex now -

My daughter is in the same boat.

From now on, I will probably go more on weight and torque rather that if the club is labeled ladies or senior.

Flexes vary.  70mph will still be in a ladies.  I wouldn't make a change until they are swinging 75+.

yeah that's what I was thinking too - different shafts had different swing speeds listed and then some shafts I couldn't find any swing speeds associated to them, but thanks we will be in ladies shafts for a while still

my 16 yr old daughter can rip it and she plays a 50g shaft, stiff.....torque means nothing for the most part until she can swing it 100 or higher.....she hits it straight and just cracked the 200 yard barrier the other day....light and fast.....thats the goal

Lighter is not always faster.
