Mizuno COPPER MP20’s

Recommended Posts

I’ve used the search bar and no luck thus far. Mostly just more people looking for the same thing as me

i have a set of the limited edition copper mp20’s & looking for anyone that has gamed them to get info on how they have worn & held up. I really want to game mine but if they won’t hold up then it’s clearly best value wise to keep them as brand new. Any help is appreciated!

I haven't used them (saw a set at someone's house a little while back), but I got the feeling they were more of a collector's item rather than something to actually be played with.

I would imagine they would get dinged up easily and the copper would start to tarnish quickly if used. Copper is pretty sensitive especially to things like water.

If it makes you happy i would just use them... but yeah for sure they are going to get messy... no way they stay any similar to what they are now. Dings scratches probably darken to a rusty look maybe? But if your willing to do so then do so because it will probably take a long time to make any high value on them. Unless you own a real piece of golfing history from jack or tiger i dont think their are too many pieces in golf that go up that much in value even if u dont play them and in wrappers.

Copper will tarnish into a natural green finish over time.  Those clubs should be more for display purposes in an indoor environment.

Check out the callaway copper wedges from a few years back. The  soft copper plate will wear away on the face, but the overall groove wear will happen at exactly the same rate as chrome or raw irons, it will just look worse. You might even like the way your wear pattern frames the ball - a few tour pros like the black titliest finish for the same reason

I bought a set and after they sat in my Man Cave in the box for 6 months I sold them to a member at Not allowed because of spam..... He sent a photo of them in his office in a Mizuno Staff Bag. They are on display and won't be played.

Thank you all for your replies. No luck yet of finding anyone that has gamed them so uncertain of what I’ll do. Any thoughts on where y’all see the value being in 1-5 years? 🤷‍♂️ Lol

Buy a used set of chrome MP20's and put these in your office. OR use the chrome MP20s on the range and the copper on the course... You can clean copper irons to take off the green.

There’s no way to know for sure, but I wouldn’t expect to make a big profit off of them. You’ll most likely be able to get a bit more than the original $2k price if you can find someone who really wants a set.

Don’t get me wrong... I think they are definitely cool looking and unique, but there isn’t anything particularly valuable or overly rare about them. From what I can tell they made at least 500 sets available to the public and I’m sure there were a number more produced that weren’t publicly available for sale.

If you’re not all that interested in playing with them or displaying them in some sort of collection then my advice would be to try and sell them now while people still want them. For all you know Mizuno could make this a yearly thing going forward and that would drastically decrease the resell value long term.

Unless you have an affinity for the copper, I'd sell now and make enough money to buy the MP20 and the upcoming MP22, You could even blend some HMB's in a 3 and 4i with them.

Maybe i'm the only one but I think if you have them already and like them and want to play them and money isn't a huge issue then go for it! II think they're something I would play if money wasn't a problem.  I also love the look of worn irons and wedges, even putters, like tigers with the wear pattern right in the sweet spot. I think you could game these for the next 10-20 years and they would be legendary, more so than they will be by just holding them and hoping they become super rare.

  • 4 weeks later...

I don't see the value of this MP20 copper sets going up simply because if someone wanted to get a set with copper, they could just buy a used set of normal mp20's for say $650 and send them into norcal or someone else to get finished in copper.  all in, I'd estimate $1200-1300ish.  So no reason to pay over $2000 for the mp20 copper set.  Plus other companies are starting to offer similar sets (cobra RF 33 protos).

Iron sets weren't meant to be displayed.  What a waste.

No matter how good the set, it's been see time and time again irons don't grow in value.  You don't see a new set of 20 year old mizunos selling for $3000.  I've seen a few over the years and they usually go for less than they originally cost, even though they were rare being in new condition.

Use them if you can afford the depression or sell them.

Amazing they didn't even take 5 minutes to clean the clubs before posting the ad.

To the poster, FWIW my local shop still had a new set last time I was in, and I'm pretty certain they'd happily swipe anybody's credit card at MSRP. If you were to play these, I think looking into the future you can expect a 10-20% premium above an otherwise comparable set of "normal" MP20s. The real challenge with value is that they don't offer a performance benefit. If they did then the pros would be playing them and Mizuno could replace them for them as fast as they want. Ping BeCu irons, by comparison, established a cult following because of feel and performance (no idea whether that is real or just perceived) and the supply was also restricted because Ping wasn't allowed to manufacture them anymore. The copper MP20s are really just a commemorative marketing effort, and they don't have the level of interest of, say, the TM Tiger Masters commemorative set.

Please don't take that to mean I'm knocking them or you. They're cool. If you plan on playing them 5-10 years and would rather get the benefit of enjoying them at the cost of a significant but not exorbitant value loss, then do it. Look at it like you're burning $100 every year over that time period. There are worse ways to spend money. You're unlikely to be paired with another golfer playing them, if you're into that sort of thing.
