Pro Platinum refinish

Recommended Posts

I have a Scotty PP NP2 I need to get refinished for my son. Much to my displeasure Cameron does not offer the PP finish anymore. Any suggestions who I can send the putter to for a clean up job on the head and a refinish? Thanks

I can't believe the Custom Shop doesn't offer a nickel plated (Pro Platinum) finish anymore. That's crazy. It was very cool when they would be able to restore any of their putters to original. And when the restos were just $125 and you could get a replacement headcover like the one that originally came with the putter. Black pearl, gun blue/black oxide, oil can, pro platinum--all gone. Sad!

They stopped the PP finish in February of this year. All that’s available for carbon steel putters is the black finish.

I would bet the absence of nickel plated finishes by the Custom Shop and BOS is a result of restrictive California environmental laws.

I was thinking the same, and that's the excuse Scotty uses for no longer offering the Oil Can finish, but BOS still offers it.

BOS does more than golf clubs so they can deal with the California laws over a larger number items.

So they just pay a fine to the state and spread that cost out over the course of the year?  Hmmmm..........no wonder pricing for refinishes have gone up.  😉
I wish they would have kept their Pro Platinum finish then.

No, complying with California's environmental laws and regulations can be prohibitively expensive on smaller companies like Scotty Cameron. Someone like Valley Valley Plating Works in Los Angeles has an assembly line for plating large orders. They can spread the costs out among a large number of items. These same regulations drove the Iron Factory out of California a go to place fore re-chroming irons.

Maybe look up gun companies that do custom plating? Lots of people nickel plate their guns and you can even buy kits from Brownells. Let us know what you end up doing. My favorite mil-spec will need replating eventually...

My choice would a a satin, frost or matt nickel finish from Ken Flanigan. He did an 8802 for me a couple of years ago in his 8802 style frost nickel.

Kevin Colbert in Minnesota did one for me several years ago. His company is Putter Plating if he is still doing it. He was great to work with and reasonably priced.

Anyone find a pro platinum or darker pro platinum (charcoal mist) refinish option lately?

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

BOS used to do a plated / Pro Platinum type of finish as well but I no longer see it on their website.
It was a great, durable finish for carbon heads.  Sad to see it not being offered any longer by Scotty or BOS.

Btw, that's because BOS did their plating...

True but people dump illeglly when legal means are cost prohibitive. I'm glad he's now close.

100% agreed! And we lost a local California owned business.
