What wedges go best with the Ping i210?

Dcass5

Recommended Posts

I just got my hands on a set of Ping i210s and I will be transitioning from Ping i500s. My question is what is the best set of wedges that fit the i210s the best? I just want to match the gapping as best as I can. I currently use the Ping Glide Forged wedges, which I love. But i am willing to use a Ping Glide 2.0 or 3.0 to eliminate gapping issues. Also, should I go with a Ping i210 UW or set wedges, such as a Ping Glide 50*?

I can’t help much but Conventional wisdom seems to be, if the 50* or GW is mostly a full swing club for you, it’s best to go with the set version.

After that, I’d say go to whatever you like the look of and works for you.

I'll second this opinion. If you choose to do this, you can have your PING Glide Forged 56* to 55* and this should work just fine. If you want other wedges, the Glide 3.0 will flow nicely.

The i210 GW is a very good set wedge.  Fantastic on full swings and pretty decent on flighted pitches.

Glide 3.0 flow flawlessly into the i210s, but for me they were just a bit too light, even with DG TI S400s put in.  I could never get the feel right with them.

I have the i210 in 4-PW and then play Cleveland RTX-4s in 50 / 54 / 58.  I’m very happy with the way the play together.  I use my 50 for full swing, as well as long chips.

That's great to hear as I'm waiting for delivery of the exact same i210 set to go with my Cleveland RTX-4s in 50/56/60. Do you have mid bounces for your wedges?

Thats what I’ve been hearing. If its a full swing, go with the UW which I usually carry. I hit the Ping Glide forged wedges fine with a full swing so I was thinking, a 50* would give me more versatility. I guess I will test this out.

Yes, I usually have the UW in my bag. I have Ping glide forged 60* and 54* bent to 55* and then a UW or 50*. I was thinking that the glide forged 50* would give me more versatility.

Ive always played Ping irons and always had the set UW. The set I just got didn't have the UW so the fist thing I did was order one lol but I also got a 50* glide forged. I also like my wedges a bit heavier with DG S300/400.

Have you guys tried Ping glide forged? I absolutely love them. I think they are a heavier head (not sure) but the feel is fantastic.

The set I got is 4-PW too. In all my previous sets its had a UW. So, the first thing I did was order a UW and also a 50* Ping glide forged. I hit my wedges with a full swing fine, so I was thinking the 50* might give me more versatility. I guess ill have to do some testing and see what I end up going with.

What shafts are you going with for your i210's?

With the Glide 3.0, compared to the 2.0, you'll get a smidge more offset and if you get the stock club off the shelf you'll get a slightly lighter shaft with it. Both are great options.

In general, I almost always recommend going with the set gap wedge as modern golf clubs go so far that you'll benefit from having another club 12-15 yards shorter than your PW.

I have the dynamic gold 120 s300 shafts in the i210s and have the dg s300 shafts  in my ping glide forged wedges. I ordered the UW and a 50* glide forged so I am going to do some testing. I’ve always used the set UW though.

I have i210, 5-U.  I prefer the OG Ping Glide wedges compared to the 2.0 and 3.0. I usually play the 54SS and 58WS. I swap in a 58SS for the WS on firm/tight conditions.

I also have the 52SS, 56SS, 58TS, and 60ES...as well as 3 58 WS backups. Sort of an OG Glide wedge hoarder. I love them.  I think the CFS Wedge shafts that came with them and the DylaWedge grips are great. I even put a DylaWedge grip on my i210 UW.

Their heads blend perfectly with the i210.  The shafts are softer than the modus 120S I use in the i210s, which I like, but it sounds like you do not.

I think the 2.0 and 3.0 have similar attributes. I just personally don't like the extra grooves on the leading edge of the head. As for the new wedge shafts, I bet they are good, but softer than you prefer.

You've got the Ping Glide Forged?

You've got your wedges!

I don't really care what anyone else says - I don't go for the play the set gap wedge if you only use it for full swing or play the same shaft in your wedges as in irons - As to the gapper, you may hit bump and runs, hit some shots from the rough, and I prefer a small head for more playability. As to shafts, I prefer something heavier in the wedges as I play 95g graphite in irons. The wedges get the Pro Modus 3 - 115 or 125 Wedge shafts.

For me the gap wedge is exactly that, a wedge to fill the gap between the PW and SW.  when I get to the SW and LW gaps are a secondary concern, I’m more worried about short game performance. If you like your current wedges then stick with them, use the set gap and don’t sweat it.
