average tour player has slightly more speed , launches it 5 degrees lower with 2k more spin and carries it 2 yd less

I suspect in real life you spin it more than this but you have a dynamic loft problem. Need to present less loft at impact and a shaft isn’t going to significantly fix that

Here is a 7i P770 KBS Tour Stiff 120

I want to see if I can get the ball flight down with a different shaft. I have hit the x100 and didn't like it.

I was thinking a KBS Tour C taper Lite X flex 115G

Just curious, what lead you to believe that the shaft is either the problem or the potential solution?   What's the shaft in your current set or the set you're considering replacing?

In general I'd recommend sticking to picking the shaft for feel and consistency of the results.   Trying to chase launch/spin numbers with shaft changes is generally very unreliable and unpredictable.   There is no way to know how the numbers will change until you actually try the shaft.   And on top of that, the numbers can revert as you spend more time with a new shaft and become more used to the change in feel.

If you need to change the ball flight, it's much more effective to use loft changes, head changes, or possibly even head weight (swing weight) changes might possibly help the delivery and dynamic loft.

@pinhigh27's comments about hitting from a mat is a good one.  Mat's can both lower spin and increase the launch angle.

@pinhigh27 yes this was off mats!

These are new clubs I bought off WRX - 2020 Taylormade P770.  I just worry my ball balloons too much and figured lower trajectory would give me some more distance.

@Stuart_G these replaced my Taylormade SLDR TT S300.

I am trying to decide if I should try to resell these and go get fitted properly, or just embrace these numbers because the clubs do feel nice. Its winter here in Seattle so I am not playing much.

Thank you both for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it.

@Ri_Redneck I am not trying to say they aren't working for me. I just got these clubs pretty recently. Just trying to find the right optimization. Since these fly high, they will just be a bit more to manage in the wind.

I am not trying to chase numbers on a trackman, but I think having some data helps me and others look into the data and point me in the right direction .

So far I learned I need to work on reducing my dynamic loft and mats will launch higher.

I fully understand, but until you see them when played off real turf, you don't know how they're going to fly. Also, we didn't discuss what ball you used. If these shots you hit were not your normal playing ball, that adds a whole other factor into the mix.  A distance ball will have a much higher trajectory than a control ball. Also, spin is the problem into the wind, not height.

These were all from pretty new range balls. I normally Play the Pro V1x.

@Stuart_G I didn't get a trackman on the Old Setup as I had sold it. But I was playing SLDR and I did have a high ball flight and probably 15 less carry cards. With new clubs I was hoping to flight the ball down and get some extra yards was my goal. I found the P770 on WRX for a deal so I just gobbled them up right away. They are below retail so I can still sell them and get what I want.

175 yards carry out of a 7i at 88mph, I dont think you can really improve much on that, nor should you want to. Irons should not be about chasing distance, it should be about how consistently you can hit them a specific distance. If you throw out the one outlier (that is only a couple yards off from the rest), the widest gap in distance is 0.7 yards. Do you really need to change anything at all? I dont think so, but it's your money. I'm not sure what kind of handicap you play to, but 4 shots within less than 1 yard is pretty incredible if you ask me.

I'm here to add nothing more than what others have already.  High launch and low spin screams influence by either the ball, hitting from mats, or both.

My goal at this point isn't yardage. I wouldn't mind less distance, I just worry that my ball is going to be challenging to control with the height it is at...

Don't get me wrong, I love the numbers, just while I am tinkering in the cold, its nice to have a discussion with some numbers to look at.

Would you consider this ball flight to be too high?

Range balls are not comparable to premium balls. They spin way less on short irons and higher on your driver.

I would guess those numbers would greatly improve with premium balls.

if the shaft feels good, look to hit them again with premium balls ...... bring a few different types. You said you play pro V1x/pro V so start there, then a Bridgestone BX/BXS.... TM TP5/5X. The ball will have a large influence.

You can google the premium ball test online on (msg) and it will show the results of spin, launch and distance from each manufacturer

I'm sure your spin will increase a bunch with a ball change, especially coming from a range ball

FYI, I had the same issue at the same ball speed. I wish I had some of my newer info, but I dumped my pics due to having too many on my phone. (Pics of my 2 girls)

Hard to comment on your launch and spin being that it may change in a much better direction with premium balls, so hard to say too high, or not enough spin when you are not getting a fair and accurate reading from a ball you would not play. It may look too high, with low spin, but that could change drastically with a premium ball.

I had hit MMC’s with the new range balls they provide at PGA Superstore to test clubs and my results with the Ctaper 130 X was 19.2* Launch at just under 6,000 rpm spin.

I hit my premium ball the next day (Bridgestone BX), and the increase in rpm’s was up to 700rpm with 1/2* launch lower with the same C-Taper 130X 65-6700rpm at 18.5 launch. As a matter of fact, I ended up getting fit into a Modus 105S that had better dispersion and launched at 1/2 a degree lower at 18* and spun more at 68-6900rpms

here is some pics of the same scenario with the range balls with the C-Taper 130X ....... the spin was a big change just by going from the PGA Superstore precept range balls, to premium balls.

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open. GolfWRX was on-site Tuesday to catch a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers.

The field of 144 is getting ready to battle starting Thursday for the $7.7 million purse, with $1.386 million going to the winner. The tournament is also the last event where players can qualify for The Masters, just like Canadian Corey Conners did last year.
