Projector help

Recommended Posts

Omg I need some guidance. I’ve been reading the projector forums and topics on this site as well and I am thoroughly confused. There’s lumens and throw and ratios. I have measured my space and I will have 10’ ceilings, my ball will be 10’ from the screen and I will be getting a mevo plus and running it off of an iPad. I’m thinking I will get a 10’x10’ impact screen so I need recommendations on a projector that will give me the best picture and not break the bank. I was thinking the best place to mount the projector would be directly over the hitting area but I’m not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

Use the calculator at projectorcentral.com.

It sounds like you'll need a projector with a throw ratio that's about 0.5 so depending on budget, I'd be looking at either the Optoma GT1080hdr or the GT1090hdr.

I have the BenQ TH671st which I think is great value but it might not give you a big enough picture because the throw ratio is ~0.7. You'd need to mount it further back

I'd recommend the BenQ TH671st. I used a slightly older BenQ in my first setup but the throw ratio was the same. If you can go with a 12'x9' screen then you can project a 4:3 image at that size having the projector anywhere from 11' to about 13'. That's the nice thing about the BenQ, there is a zoom on it so you don't have to be as precise with the placement. There is also very little vertical offset, so the top of the image starts just 3" below the height of the lens. The Optoma projectors are good on paper, but there is a 16" vertical offset, meaning you have to tilt the projector up and use keystone to correct the image unless you have 12' ceilings or higher. There is also no zoom on the projector, so it has to be mounted in exactly the right spot to fill the screen. With the BenQ and an Nvidia graphics card I know you can also set up custom resolutions, so if you did go with a 10'x10' screen you can project a square image of that size from about 12' or 13'. If the projector is right on the target line it won't get hit, especially if it's right over the ball or slightly behind. The Optomas have a shorter throw ratio which means you can mount them closer, but that leaves them open to being hit by extreme popups if they're in front of the hitting area, which they probably will be if your ball position is 10' from the screen.

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open. GolfWRX was on-site Tuesday to catch a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers.

The field of 144 is getting ready to battle starting Thursday for the $7.7 million purse, with $1.386 million going to the winner. The tournament is also the last event where players can qualify for The Masters, just like Canadian Corey Conners did last year.
