New Years Resolution - Play same clubs for a year? Is it possible.

LeftyMatt24

Recommended Posts

My New Years resolution is to play this entire year with the same clubs. The only caveat for me is finalizing what driver shaft I’m going to stick with. I have three right now. My goal is to not buy new clubs and get better with what I have through lessons and learning my clubs instead of the revolving door of new shiny toys.

Is it possible? I am not sure because I love trying new stuff as part of the fun but I have an awesome bag right now so I probably could/should play same ones all year. Anyone else going to try to not buy new stuff this year?

Due to a lack of $$$ (and I don't like to change what works) I played the same clubs all last year and plan on doing it again this year.  I did just buy two new SM7s on sale to replace my wedges.

My guilty GOLFWRX plasure is trying different balls.

That is typically my problem. Why not try a few things are my famous last words and then I switch the whole bag haha.

I might try that or shafts. I like trying the new stuff but I feel like I’d play better sticking with what I was fit into as opposed to trying to find new stuff and self fitting.

My bag is entirely the same as it was this time last year. Only change I might make this year is fresh wedges but I'd buy the same ones if I could find some.

Oh, you are on a way to becoming a better player, my man! I cannot think of a better investment than using some of your equipment budget for lessons from a good PGA Pro. If you also have the patience and motivation to practice and learn new skills you’ll find out that with the current set up of your clubs you are capable of producing larger variety of shots with improved overall quality of ball stricking. After realizing this, might feel a little stupid by wasting so much money in to new equipment earlier without putting equal amount of effort for self development as a golfer. 😄

ps. If it is unbearable of not being able to tweak your golf clubs, try reducing this pain by trying out different balls, gloves and shoes and see if it has impact on your game. The golf industry approves this approach as well and you will be getting rid of at least some of this newly saved money, if it helps?

You’re right for sure. After lessons with my pga pro I definitely feel a difference in shots I hit And my confidence level. if I’m not dumping money on clubs I can go more frequently. His goal for me in 2020 is to get to a plus handicap.

That sounds like a great move and good motivatonal factor for the upcoming season. All the best with your effort!👍🏻 It is actually funny how some of the Tour Pros are reluctant to change from their oldish equipment to newer versions due to the confidence and comfort factor. E.g. Stenssons’s 3-wood which is one of his biggest weapons. Also, I know a former several time  ET winner that played with a TaylorMade M1 driver with M3 headcover on it due to public image requirement from his equipment sponsor. 😄

Will be impossible for me to keep the same bag of clubs.  Haven’t even decided what I will play for the next round.

I however have committed to only playing Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x exclusively this year.  Not even going to try another brand even if I find one.

I made no purchases this year, COVID limited my income so the only thing I bought was a dozen balls, I did have a bit of a stockpile.

i did pull a old Vokey out of the stash for a few rounds, went back to the Glide2, and I rotate hybrids and fairways on occasion.

I have plenty of good clubs, I enjoy new things but it really depends on disposable income.  Want vs. need

Ping G400 Testing G410.  10.5 set at small -
Ping G410 3, 5 and 7 wood

Ping G410 5 hybrid-not much use.
Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal. 5-G
Vokey 54.10, 2009 58.12 M, Testing TM MG2 60* TW grind and MG3 56* TW grind.  Or Ping Glide Stealth, 54,58 SS.

Wise decision.  Switching balls really screws up my short game.  It’s amazing how different spin and launch can change from ball to ball on wedge shots.

Found a V Steel 20/7wood thats majic...replaced putter with a 95% similar one..but its better...putting over 20% better.

A few days ago I looked at my "Recent Purchases" on eBay and was shocked that there were clubs on there that I didn't remember using.  Plus, there were several sets of the same thing there.

My name is dbleag and I have a problem.

When I play well, there is no way I would switch or replace a single club in my bag.

When I lay a turd on the scorecard, I have to change equipment so I can blame it on something other than me.

I promise to do better in 2021.

Winter is good for the annual tinkering.  Luckily, I end up switching things that make minimal impact on scoring.  Last year it was trying hybrids.  The hybrid and utility iron get swapped out based on weather.  This winter my project is building up old raw wedges to see if I can use a low bounce lob for winter rounds if Virginia ever dries out.

If I play more in'21, I would most likely default to current wedges.  This mostly gives me a golf activity to occupy that part of my brain when I am bouncing off the walls.

If anything can go right, it might!
