2021 LPGA Season Odds and Ends

Atthaya may not play the Q Series this year.

Jeeno has just committed to play in the LET championship tournament in Spain from November 25 to 28. She will also get 150,000 euro bonus as the winner of the Race to Costa Del Sol competition.

If she makes the cut, there is no way she can get to Alabama The next morning To play the Q Series.

She will be better off playing mainly on the LET anyway, her earnings so far from LET and Honda LPGA would be equivalent to position 17 on the LPGA money list.

Is it likely the BMW and Taiwan Swinging Skirts will be canceled?

Any word yet on early 2022 tournaments in Australia?

No official word (I looked) but my judgement - living in Melbourne - is that the conservative way Australia has managed covid will mean continued cancellations of many international sporting events or at the very least 14 day quarantine for players and limited entourage (so many will just skip it - who wants to travel half way around the world to be locked in a hotel room).

We may open our borders with strict quarantine and double jab vax requirements at year end at best, possibly into 2022 so it will be touch and go for the LPGA events. It isn't a lost cause but hopeful rather than certain.

Here's an article about PGA (not LPGA) event postponement that will give you an idea of the current official Oz mindset, even these postponements could still be scrapped:

https://www.espn.com.au/golf/story/_/id/32136523/australia-postpones-top-golf-tournaments-2022-due-covid-19

The Australian PGA Championship will be moved from a December slot to Jan. 13-16 in Brisbane, while the Nov. 25-28 Australian Open in Sydney has been pushed back to late-January or February.

"These decisions are not taken lightly when we are talking about our flagship tournaments that are playing opportunities for our members," PGA of Australia boss Gavin Kirkman said in a statement.

"But as much as the number of COVID-19 cases is a big concern, it's also the quarantine requirements that make it difficult to run golf tournaments.

"Not all countries require international visitors to quarantine -- America for example -- and that puts Australia at a disadvantage in an international sport."

Sydney and Melbourne, Australia's largest cities, and the capital Canberra are in the grip of a third wave of infections which has forced more than half the country's 25 million people into lockdowns.

Australia's mandatory 14-day quarantine for international arrivals is also a huge obstacle for local tournaments to lure the country's best players home from the U.S. and European golf tours.

@RapidcatFrom an Australian-based person's perspective... Could you opine on whether the current lockdown situation in AU = Seems worse (ie w.r.t. infections & Lockdowns/social-distancing measures), than vs the beginning of 2021 when the tennis Australian Open still went ahead?

Worse, Jungle, meaning more stringent.

No one will be getting in unless double-jabbed and 14 days quarantine in the H1 2022 timeframe.

Were Covid restrictions less stringent in Q1 2021...therefore the Australian Open tennis event was held with limited or no fans???

If I recall...wasn't there a small outbreak related to the event and/or a player that was handled with an isolation/quarantine of the issue?

Less stringent back then.

Now we have a lockdown curfew and QR codes. After multiple lockdowns (6 = now over 220 days in Melbourne), there is no appetite for any leeway.

Just forget it everyone - if we open up internationally, it will be under the strictest conditions in the developed economies.

International sporting events may go ahead in H1 2020 but vax and quarantine will be mandated.

Some states like WA and Queensland are unlikely to come out of border restrictions before Q2 2020 anyway.

I believe you have typo's above....I believe you mean 2022.

It's a shame how your lock downs continue.

Life is kinda normal here....kinda.....still some restrictions and limits.....but not a lock down.

90+% of courses did voluntarily close for about a month in the spring of 2020.

It was so difficult to obtain a tee time...especially in Apr/May this year....but the demand for tee times now is reduced.....summer is coming to an end and the demand going into the fall and winter will be less cause it's so wet here....but it will still be busy because of lack of sunlight....it's now dark at 730pm...in June it was 945pm.

On another note...my 3 rd hot streak with the putter...no 3 jacks, etc came to an end yesterday.

38 putts...three 3 jacks....11 GIR's for an 82....WTH.

As you know good golf can only last so long....the Golf Gods don't like us to have fun.🤣

Yes, typos, should be 2022 not 2020 - my bad. It is a sign though of how we're just existing rather than living in my city, everything feels suspended.

Not good to 'see' re your putter, 38 putts, WTH? You need to do some serious work - just saying.

My Wilson The Bean was disappointing when I got it on Friday - too counter-balanced, couldn't feel the head enough, so I swapped out the grip for a 25gr lighter Super Stroke and it now has great possibilities🙂

Ya....it must be tough for you and the rest of the folks there.

Ya...38 putts does s*ck...but 2 of the 3 three jacks occurred from 35-40 ft....so ball striking and proximity to the hole matters too.

It was just one of those day....and yes....I'm not happy I choked w/ 38 putts....it happens.

I rushed out to play yesterday...no warm up...not that I usually warm up on the putting green...now that I have an annual pass....I don't go hit some putts before play much...previously I normally would hit a few putts.

I was so rushed...I sliced my driver on the 1st tee into trouble leading to a double.

I don't make a living playing golf...so there will be some good day and some bad days....as a 7 cap....my goal is to break 80 each time I play....I don't necessarily play shorter tee just to have a lower score.

As much I consider myself an avid golfer with time to play....I have never got too serious that practice would make a permanent improvement in play and permanent reduction in my cap.

I've never been so excessively focussed to put in the work to go from a 7 cap to a 3 or 4 cap....I have been down to 4.8 back in 2011...but it was for a short time frame.

Golf for me is primarily to get out of the house and get some exercise (I walk 97+% of my rds) and to hopefully win some skins off my friends.

When I did a quick calculation earlier in the year.....I was surprised....my GIR % and avg putts are right in line for a 7 capper.

Were you able to blow off the new grip w/o damaging it?

Man, just hit some putts on your carpet or putting mat (reinforcing decent technique) whilst you are watching whatever on tele every evening and you won't 38 putt again.

No problems with removing the Wilson grip, I like it and will deploy it elsewhere, just a lighter Super Stroke works better with The Bean for me.

Gotta get a Ping Ketsch in the near future I think. Nice, new, shiny toys.....

My house is all hardwood....I only have a small area rug in my office....I have done a few short putts in the past.

I do practice putt when I go to the range.

LMAO....never make 38 putts ever again.....WISHFUL THINKING...you smoking your crack pipe in lock down.🤣

I think i'm over 110+ rds this year...I just looked at my golf log....I've had 39 putts occur 3 times...WTH.

Though I did have a rd with a career low of 23 putts.

My avg putts per rd is 33....33 is approx for a 7-8 cap.

I know....I know...just practice.

BUT

I don't want to be glass 1/2 empty....IMO....but good/great putters are born not made.

Just ask Lexi and Brooke.

Just ask @Argonne69....I think Lexi won the weekly WRX MOOSE award 90% of the time....my memory s*cks....I think the WRX MOOSE award was for the weekly pro with a lousy flat stick....I think it was won..... not by putting stats but by WRX voter input...LOL.

You certainly are a WRX member...you ARE A CLUB HO...opposite to my cheap*ss golf club ways.🤣

I'm a cheap *ss club ho (sort of)😀 Last 10 mins just bought a JDM Srixon Z725 driver head to muck around with. If it doesn't meet my requirements I'll punt it on for more than I paid for it. Great fun for an equipment ho.

My average putts per rd is now 30, used to be 33 and I thought that was rubbish. My putting practice regime has knocked off 2 putts, the other TBH is from improved chipping.

You can become a very good made putter vs born for the short stuff - just ask me. I'll never be In Bee though, at my very best, more Leona (I wish 🤣).

Smiley Mike and Jan Stephenson would HAVE FREAKED out if there was no KLPGA and foreigners were not allowed to play on the JLPGA and the LPGA was the only tour the Korean could fluff up their bank acct overseas.

Popsicle Man would have such a hard time with all the Lee's🤣

Pardon my ignorance. I’m wondering when LPGA season ends? My understanding is at some point, the players who do not make into top 100 will need to play in the stage 2 of the Q school.

The last regular tournament is the Pelican running November 11th through the 14th. The CME Tour Championship is the following week.

Not sure if the Pelican is a full field event. Realistically the players on the bubble should know their status in 3 weeks at the new Cognizant tournament in New Jersey. It ends two days before the deadline to enter Q Series.

That's a good question!

  1.    For players who're ranked inside #60 on current year CME Points List, it ends after CME Group Tour Championship on November 21.
  2.    For players who qualify to play Pelican Women's Championship, a limited field event, it ends after Pelican on November 14.
  3.    For players who don't qualify to play Pelican, it ends after Cognizant Founders Cup on October 10.
  4.    For many other players, their season either ended yesterday after Cambia Portland Classic or will end on Sunday, September 26 after Walmart NW Arkansas Championship.

the players who do not make into top 100 will need to play in the stage 2 of the Q school.

  1.    Players who're ranked outside of #150 on CME Points List after Cognizant Founders Cup will play Stage II.
  2.    Players who're ranked #101-150 on CME Points List either after Cognizant Founders Cup or Pelican Women's Championship will play Q-Series

Thank you! I suppose it’s not me, the rules are convoluted. LOL.

Is Q Series referring to stage iii of Q school?
