2021 LPGA Season Odds and Ends

Karis Davidson was T2 with Bade Liu but lost the playoff at the Monday Qualifier.  Karis was born in Scotland but has lived in Australia since 8 years old.  She joined JLPGA in 2018 and has played there since but unfortunately missed 2020 completely due to COVID restrictions.

It appears she's in the US to prepare for 2021 LPGA Q-School:

"Little update on my golf in America so far..😊 I’ve been fortunate enough to stay at the @golfaust house in Orlando and train there😁The last couple of weeks I’ve tried out in Monday qualifiers for LPGA events. This week I was close getting into a play off for second position, unfortunately got beat. Looking forward to the next few weeks to come🤙🏻"

Is there a website (LPGA/etc) with results of the Monday Qualifiers? Was wanting to see how Genevieve Ling has been doing... eg I saw on her Instagram that she was +4 shots away(?) from the winning score at last week’s Cambia Portland Classic Monday Qualifiers ... thanks in advance, for any help

eg I used the following Google Search syntax (site:https://www.lpga.com "monday qualifying"... ShortLink = https://bit.ly/3AsbiTN

) ...but apart from the occasional media story ... Nada!

It's important you bookmark this result URL, because it disappears from LPGA website one day after the event.

One of the improvement I observe since the new commissioner took over is that this is now a live leaderboard.   It used to be the results were posted for each player only after entire round was over; now it's real time after each hole for each player.

I was pondering about who would be the next LPGA Hall of Famer after Inbee and there doesn’t seem to be a clear answer.

Laura Davies is the closest only needing 2 more points and while she is still making cuts on the LPGA, the last time she was in contention was in 2018 with a T-2 at the Founders Cup. Before then, she was in contention at the 2014 Mizuno Classic where she finished T-3. Unless she catches lightning in a bottle, it seems like a tough feat.

Cristie Kerr needs 5 points but it seems like her best days are behind her.

Stacy Lewis and Lydia Ko each need 8 points, Lydia could potentially still do it but neither have the consistency or dominance to challenge every week for wins.

Ariya Jutanugarn  needs 10 points and is one of 3 players to have multiple wins this season but again, Ariya doesn’t have the dominance when she was No. 1. Will she be good enough, long enough to make her way there with 2-3 wins every couple of years?

Jin Young Ko, Lexi Thompson and Brooke Henderson are the only other active players l, I think with double digit points toward the hall of fame. I get the impression Brooke will never dominate but if she consistently has 1-2 wins a season for the next few seasons she could be up there before 30. JYK is also a good candidate. I’m not so sure Lexi even really enjoys playing or is willing to sacrifice to be the best, just  my opinion.

It could be possible that none of these players make it.

The related question is how long will these players continue to tee it up? PGA players generally keep playing into their 50s as long as their health hold out. Other than a handful of old veterans on the LPGA, the players tend to hang it up much, much sooner. Lydia has often talked about quitting at 30.

No kidding about the earlier LPGA retirements compared to PGA.  Inbee is only one year older than Rory McIlroy but is considered retirement age while Rory is still in his prime.

Do you think it will change much if the purse is tripled so that USWO is $15.0 million and average tour event $6.0 million?  My sense is it's more to do with traditional women's role in a family.

Don't think it has much to do with the purses. 'Plenty of players out there with young kids, but they're in the minority.

Most of the top women starting playing professionally at a young age, skipping college. If Lydia hangs it up at 30, she will still have played 13 years on tour. Lexi will have completed 14 years on tour, and Brooke 13.

How could I have forgotten Yani Tseng who also only needs 2 points and Paula Creamer who has 11?

However, I'm not sure they'll make the LPGA HOF on their merits.

I got to believe the Toto is a go too...as there has been no cancellation announcement.

I might imagine they might be held with limited fans or no fans.

With an empty week in between the BMW and Toto....I think both events will struggle to get much LPGA star power with more KLPGA & JLPGA pros filling in.

But that is a bonus as we'll see more KLPGA & JLPGA on TV coverage.

Are there quarantine protocols for athletes entering S. Korea and Japan?

In the past...the pros invited to play the Asia swing had their expenses paid for.

LPGA's Korean event used to be the hardest ticket to get before the Pandemic; how things have changed!

Four of five major winners this year will skip the Korea event

So is Minjee scheduled to play?

Will she then jet set to the Middle East to defend her Moonlight title on the LET?

Fresh off her Curtis Cup fame, Caley McGinty continues to roll at Oklahoma State University:

"Caley McGinty, a transfer from Kent State, won the event, just her second as a Cowgirl. McGinty posted a final round two-under, 68, finishing 8-under good enough for a four stroke victory over teammate Rina Tatematsu."

Only Hana's Korean LPGA pros were invited to play?...Patty's in NJ...where's Thitikul?...is she playing?

This is moving away from Sky 72 to Adonis GC north of Seoul.

As the norm....seems to be a hilly course.

A huge glass encased clubhouse.

There's a huge concrete Sphinx on site...LMAO...those crazy Koreans.

I'm thinking there was some 'political' riff why the Hana is no longer a co-sanctioned event with the LPGA.

Could it be the signing of the BMW event?

You can blame your pal, Smiley Mike, why another LPGA event was lost.....lol.

Atthaya Thitikul went back to Thailand after she won LET event in Switzerland on September 11; she'll rejoin LET at Aramco Team Event in New York on October 14.  I'm surprised Atthaya isn't among several Thai players at Hana.  Maybe it isn't a big surprise because even though Hana is one of Atthaya's sponsors but she doesn't wear a Hana hat.

Lydia also doesn't wear a Hana hat but is playing; Patty, on the other hand, wears a Hana hat but not playing.  The only explanation is that Patty will have a new main sponsor in 2022.

I dug in the issue a little deeper.  The Thai players who'll be playing are part of Ladies Asian Tour (LAT); Atthaya isn't a member of LAT.

It appears COVID Quarantine requirements may be the reason why Atthaya and Patty aren't in the field:

"Princess Mary Superral (23) of the Philippines participating in this competition drew attention when she announced her intention to participate in the competition even though she had to self-isolate for two weeks."
