2021 LPGA Season Odds and Ends

Honestly, I don't see any players moving to the G425 irons. They're simply too big. Lol. I believe that one, maybe two players had G400 and/or G410 irons in their bags. The vast majority of players game i210s, and their replacement won't be out until next year.

I used to carry a 6 hybrid, but decided to try a 6i again. On a whim I purchased a G410. Oy. Like swinging an entrenchment tool. I wound up finding an i200 6i head and swapping the shaft from the G410. That did the trick. I don't see how a pro could game the G line.

It looks like Bianca is, from her quote but maybe like @Supermilo says she feels at such a low point with her irons and feels she has to try something new and different irons might be the easiest way to try something different.  But yeah all  pro's on the LPGA PING page who are using 425's are only changing their woods so far and some only the driver.

Yes, she is trying to improve her short game which she considers as "much to be improved on" - so she's doing both in "one shot" --  equipment and feel of the short game and distance control at one go...

Well, you're more well versed on these things.... I'm, of course, all for top 80 as qualifications for all events for LPGA 2021 🙂  (But hey, I don't set the rules :P)

I'm not sure, just a guess.

Major championship doesn't follow LPGA's priority order, so there's a chance!

It's tough to know whether it will improve from before without the week to week details.

Can't wait!

I'm indifferent. The major networks have a bad habit of tossing the coverage back to The Golf Channel if there's a playoff, and coverage runs over.

The reality sets in!

LPGA announces record TV coverage in 2021, but Annika Sorenstam's return will be tape-delayed

"While all five majors will be broadcast live, only three of them will feature network TV. Both the ANA Inspiration and Amundi Evian Championship will be exclusively on Golf Channel."

Well, that’s confusing. The chart shows Evian on CNBC and the LPGA link says,

  • Live coverage of all five major championships on NBC Sports: ANA Inspiration (April 1-4), U.S. Women's Open (June 3-6), KPMG Women's PGA Championship (June 24-27), Amundi Evian Championship (July 22-25) and AIG Women’s Open (Aug. 19-22).L

This is all because LPGA has the best commissioner anywhere in the world!

Match play returns to the LPGA schedule in May at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas

"The details are out on the LPGA’s upcoming match-play event in Las Vegas. The LPGA has announced that the Bank of Hope LPGA Match Play will be hosted by Shadow Creek, a Tom Fazio design owned by MGM Resorts International. The event, to be played May 26-30, will feature a 64-player field and a $1.5 million purse."

Just for curiosity, I compare the Instagram followers for top women tennis and golf players:

Tennis

Serena Williams                                           12.9 millions

Maria Sharapova                                         4.1 millions

Genie Bouchard                                           2.1 millions

Naomi Osaka                                               2.0 millions

Simona Halep                                              1.6 millions

Coco Gauff                                                  665 K

Bianca Andreescu                                       660 K

Golf

Michelle Wie                                                574 K

Hinako Shibuno                                           502 K

Lexi Thompson                                           483 K

Muni He                                                       352 K

Hyunju Yoo                                                  297 K

Erika Hara                                                    266 K

Nelly Korda                                                  185 K

This is insane; Coco Gauff is only 16, the same age as Alexa Pano.

Nelly Korda                                                  185 K

If the LPGA wants to solve all of their problems, they should obviously hire whoever runs women's tennis as it's next commissioner 😉

One of the biggest difference between WTA (Women's Tennis Association) and LPGA is that WTA is the only organization of its kind while LPGA is one of many tours around the world.

WTA's prize pool supports about 150 players; while LPGA, JLPGA, KLPGA and LET support 600-700 players in total.  If all women's tour combined to play 150 players this year, the purse would be $170.0 million with an average payout of more than $1.0 million per.

At the end of the day, women's professional golf chosses to play more players at the expense of less payout per player.

Feeling the necessity to comment on the brouhaha today surrounding Rudy Giuliani's vulgar comment on Michelle Wie West within a Steve Bannon podcast. One step forward and three steps back is an appropriate phrase I think. After shedding a tear, gonna chalk it up to the likes of his generation who will never get it or better stated perhaps, get past it. All this within a tribute to Rush Limbaugh. The day Rudy and Rush chuckle about this shared memory together will come soon enough. Kudos to Michelle and the USGA for their swift, potent response.

Irish know their golf, this is a fine article!

Maguire: The only pity is we don’t have an Irish Open on the schedule

"I am never going to hit it like Nelly Korda, but there’s no reason why I can’t hit my irons as good as an Inbee Park or a Danielle Kang. But when you move up any level going from college golf to Symetra Tour to LPGA, there is always a level that you have to go up and raise your game."

I decided to chronicle Alison Lee's career progression after following her on Monday Qualifier live scoreboard just now.

She won 2014 Q-School and made 2015 Solheim Cup as a rookie.  She won $628,000 in 2015 and ranked #23 on official money.

At that point she's destined to become a superstar.

She'd a down year in 2016, $470,000 and #38; nothing serious.  In 2016 wheels started to fall off and she finished $155,000 and #86; she's never recovered from that.

To sum it up, she started her professional career with a bang, much higher profile than Nelly Korda in 2017.  But Six years later, everything is different.

She's still young (26 this week), she certainly can resurrect her career if her mind is into it.   But, that seems to her biggest challenge.

Is it just her mind?  She did have some recurring injuries the past few years too...  but yes, focus/dedication aspect definitely needs improvement

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this news!  It's the subject of week long discussion in thiis forum five months ago.

Haters rejoice: The 'Great Wall of Dinah' won’t be part of 2021 ANA Inspiration

"But good news for all those who didn’t like the wall: Even though there won’t be any fans at the 2021 ANA Inspiration in order to follow COVID-19 protocols, the wall also won’t be there."
