One of my favorite courses in the valley thus far. And conditions were great. Would gladly pay that again. Playing at a local track this weekend for $40 and its certainly not half as nice as Dinosaur Mountain. I'll be back there soon.

Southern Dunes, which is 100x better than Dino, is $30.    DM is all your!.

I've played Southern Dunes twice and I don't get it. Granted I moved here from the Oregon coast 2 years ago and have played a hundred real dunes courses next to the ocean, so I am just not taken aback by that track. Very flat land. Very manufactured. First time I played the greens were like a parking lot. Rather play my home course Trilogy Power Ranch than track out to Maricopa. Of course it has lots of fan fare so I am in the minority.

$83 for Dino Mt in the summer is nuts, but obviously people are paying it.

Agree 100%, but not as nuts at McDowell Mountain still asking $99 in 110 degree weather.  That course has to be dead nobody in their right mind would pay that.

Traveling out this weekend and playing WeKoPa + TPC Champions... what is the hydration situation at these two courses? Do I need to bring my own water, or just a jug that I can fill along the way?

TPC has water stations that you can fill up at, roughly every 3 holes. Plus you pass by the clubhouse at the turn. Water bottles are available from the outside staff as well and when temps get closer to 110 they put 4 bottles in each cart. The rangers carry a cooler of extra bottles as well if you need some when they pass. Enjoy!

LOL - definitely in the minority' especially when you put in Power Ranch - I live right near it and no, it is not better than SD in any world.

I lived in Or for few years and must have missed out on all those 100 real dunes courses.  Didn't even know there were a 100 courses on the Or coast?  Guess I will have to go play them next year after Bandon.  Please list them out for me so I don't miss any. tia

Played Desert Canyon today, Called the pro shop and the guy said greens were in good shape and hadn't been punched yet. Got there and it was two days after punching, all bunkers are being redone. The only good thing about that course right now is the tee boxes are in good shape. Got on for $40 and played in three hours even with waiting on the group in front of us.

... After playing Aguila all winter for the $22 senior walking rate with my remote controlled cart while everywhere else was well over $100, I have been playing a ton of other courses now that the prices have come down. More than a few rounds at The Raven because it has so much shade and since I am taking a cart in this heat, shade is a must. Which brings me back to Aguila where I played for the first time in a month or so. Greens still recovering from aeration and pretty dammed bumpy. This was the first time I played there in a cart and didn't realize how little shade Aguila provides. Got back in my car and temp was 117* so no wonder the lack of shade made it a long day. Rest of the course is in great shape but I would avoid it for at least another week or 2.

Desert Canyon is definitely one of the top 5 worst courses in the state. In fact, it might be THE worst. I wouldn't play that course if it was free and came with lunch. I'll bet you wouldn't either after your fiasco.

Biltmore Adobe this morning. Pleasantly surprised by good conditions all around.  Some very minor fairway burnt spots, nothing major. Bunkers, rough, tees, greens, all very good. Fairways not overwatered. 3:35 pace as a foursome.  #18 green (rebuilt/moved a couple years ago) was a lot slower than the others.

I have a buddy in Surprise and have played Verrado Victory a few times. I have not heard of Sterling, I'll have to check that out. The others are on my to do list., and maybe sooner than later as those do look like good prices. Thanks.

Red mountain Ranch Cc yesterday, played at 1:29 for $9 (yep, nine) using teeoff code.

first time playing it from the tips, usually play it up with friends. Plays like a totally different course IMO, but the more I play here the more I actually like it, gotta be precise with approaches or else. Greens were rolling GREAT, pace was perfect, I was literally the only one there on the course.

Ak Chin Southern Dunes this morning for the first time. Teed off as a foursome just after 7 and got around in just under 4 hours. Great conditions on the fairways and greens. Some tee boxes had uneven footing and longer grass than I liked. A few bunkers were more dirt than sand. Greens started off slower than I expected but dried out to the speed I'm used to in the summer months. Definitely worth the summer pass to play here if you can bear the long trip to the course.

Having bottled water available every 3 holes or so is the best way to do water on the course IMO.

We-Ko-Pa Saguaro this morning. $49 AZ resident rate. Very enjoyable round. Some minor fairway burnt/browned spots but hitting off them was no problem, it wasn't bare dirt. Green speed I'd call "average" for a higher-end Phoenix public course. They aerate the Saguaro greens in a few weeks. One greenside bunker was pretty thin but two others I was in were fine. I was expecting the course to be soaked from irrigation but it really wasn't and the ball was rolling well. Overall I was extremely pleased with the conditions. Played in about 3:30 though we were among the first few groups out. Someone earlier asked about the drinking water situation, no jugs or fountains on the course, which the starter warned us about, but they put two bottles of water in the cart cooler and two in the cupholders, plus the bev cart drove by a few times.

Quintero today at 8:03.  My first trip around and I had to see for myself. There seems to be a wide range of opinions on this one. It took me 1:10 to get there from the East Valley, but it was worth it...especially for $69. The starter told us to expect a 4.5 hour round and it took longer than that due to the group ahead of us. This course is really spread out, including a 6 minute cart ride from clubhouse to driving range and the 1st tee. The bent grass greens were a nice surprise. Conditions were really good and I don't recall any bad lies. Those par 3's were really fun with the elevated tee boxes. it was kind of a guess the first time around how much to club down. I'll do it again next year if the opportunity presents itself.

Papago on Saturday was pretty rough. Greens seem to be coming back okay, but rest of course is very hit or miss. Unfortunately, probably the worst I have seen it in a while, but for $23, hard to say it’s a bad deal.

Southern Dunes was pretty solid this morning for summer conditions. Some areas were overwatered but no mud balls. Greens were grainy and slow ish but putted fine. 4:10 pace.  Still one of my favorite designs.

Sterling Grove yesterday. Great conditions all around. The green on 6 was having some dead/ dirt spots but nothing too bad. Everything else was pretty good for the time of the year. Greens will be aerated starting today and tomorrow.
