Save your money as these courses should be in prime condition around the time New Zealand finally reopens to the world in a couple years.

Short notice, but is anyone interested in playing CommonGround at 7:20am on Saturday?

I was hunting for morning tee times, and ran across this last night.  I booked the two-some, and figured I’d try to find someone interested.

Spot filled....   CDM and I are gonna go hack the place to pieces.

Well after a couple years of having a GVR I won't be renewing. Upped the price too much to make sense. None of my friends are renewing there either due to the price increase. I really enjoyed that place and the workers there. Looking forward to playing some other courses and see if my handicap carries over to places I don't know so well. I dropped it from ~12 to 3.7 while playing there. Anyone play Saddle Rock recently? Looks like a good test. Any good apps to use to book tee times other than GolfNow?

Second person I have heard this from.   *by the way nice progress on your HDCP drop... well done

Saddle Rock is decent and in decent shape right now. Should be in really good shape next week or so.

Have you looked at Murphy Creek? Close to GVR since you played out of there and a great test.  Its long and the wind blows it be over the top tough.     Good thing about Denver there a many excellent coursed.  Common Ground was great shape today and good routing.

@Gmcourtney and I hit up CG early this morning and as always had a great time with @Gmcourtney.

Played decent and shot a "super smooth" 107 with two doubles.   Holding strong at 24.3  😆

On positive note, we know now and then we get paired with "that group".  NOT today, great group today.  Awesome husband and wife and they both could flat out play beside being great people..!   The husband shot 1 under and should of really been more like 2-3 under based on how many putts he missed.      Playing with good people is always so much better.

I am just glad the Hdcp is rounding into shape.    😃 LOL

Just got back from playing at CG as well. Took off at 12:40pm and finally had the first round in which I felt like I knocked some rust off after half way. Went 52 - 43 = 95 for my best round in weeks. I finished last season as a 15 and seeing the 20's is giving me some motivation to get back into form asap. I'm also chronically 8-10 shots worse on the back so it was a surprise to finish strong. Hopefully overcoming the driver yips I developed over the winter. It was such a nice day and I also played with a great group as well! Feels like golf season is officially here.

IMO GVR has gotten a little too greedy. 4 day membership now $2400, 7 day now $3500, and no longer included is the $100 gift card and the 45min lesson. Common Ground membership is 2600 for a 7 day I believe. I would look into that, it's just too far to justify. GVR is generally in good shape, but you won't find me paying $90 to play a round there now. It has been a long time since I have played Murphy, I'll have to try and get out there. Never played CG, many friends have and say they really like it.

We likely still need a 4th to even have a chance. I will be amazed if it goes for under $1200 when the charity events all fill up with people (well their companies usually) paying $750-$2500 a person.

Good guess, it went for $2620 for a foursome.   $655 a person...ouch.  I know it is a limited access course but that seems excessive, sooooo many other top courses you could access for less.

Agreed on GVR.  Seems like they're just getting more and more expensive...well over $100 on the weekends now.  Looked into the membership as well but definitely not worth it.  I did do the player's discount thing, we'll see if that ends up paying off.  It probably will, but it's annoying that after selling that they then started allowing tee times to be booked 60 days out, but you can't apply the player's discount to those times.  I like the course and play out there a bunch, but it's starting to be a bit much.

I was out at CG practicing Saturday while my kids were in golf camp.  If you saw a guy hitting a club with a wooden shaft and being unable to get out of the bunkers in the practice area, that was me haha.  Hitting my hickory clubs out of the bunker is so damn hard, I need to spend about a month in a bunker with those clubs to try to figure it out.

Thanks, they're super fun to play with.  I played a round at Meadow Hills on Friday with them, shot in the mid 80s.  No worse than with my fancy new stuff 🙂 We'll see how I fare out in Wisconsin in a few weeks.

Here's a pic of my babies 😁 I just spent a few weeks restoring and refinishing them.  Replaced a few shafts, new grips, new whipping (that's the yellow thread), and restored all the heads.  Fun project but man did it take a lot of time!

I feel like I would break them if I got a little fast in transition or had to dig a shot out of a divot. They are gorgeous!

Thank you!

And oh yes, it's a real concern, it's even worse after you actually do break one (I've now broken two shafts while hitting).  You do get a little gun shy after, but it's inevitable.  You play enough with these you'll eventually break a shaft.

The shafts though are shockingly tough and resilient.  You can really crank down on a ball and the shaft holds up just fine.  I've definitely taken some big divots with these things (no bounce is no fun!) and they've held up well.  It does take some time to develop that trust though and realize that they can handle a lot.

Tempo and transition is huge with these though.  I wouldn't say it's a different swing than with new clubs, but bad tempo definitely gets punished in a very bad way.

Have a question how you guys post scores VS USGA rules on posting scores.

@Gmcourtney and I as I noted prior played CG last weekend.  No I did not shoot 107

I shot  78/77 and was noted as such on my scorecard.  I had one hole that was listed as 7/6 MD.... The MD stands for "Max Dbl".  I keep notes like many do on what I did right, wrong or F'd up completely LOL.

Given my current Hdcp index the hole I took the triple on was not a stroke hole so per USGA rules the max it says I can take is double bogey.  * I think if it was a stroke hole the max then would be triple, the double plus the stroke for the hole. Unless they changed the rule in 2021?

Anyway I went to post the score online today and it got me wondering what most of you do?

Do you guys post straight up what you shot OR do you guys follow USGA handicap rules?

Either way I am posting "107"  😃

*Mental note, I really really need to work on my sand game.......

I follow whatever USGA tells me to do with posting.  I've found the hole by hole scoring to be a life saver so I don't have to think about what is a net double bogey and what holes I stroke on.  So I just keep my actual score on the card, then input hole by hole when I post and let the app do the rest.

You are correct, max score for ANY golfer is a net double for any hole. Two ways you can do it, if you're entering the total, just enter it considering your max (6). The second option is to post a hole-by-hole score and just enter your gross scores, the system will take care of the rest

If I score a triple bogey or worse, I will post my score using the hole-by-hole method on the app. So very handy and it leaves no doubt.

I should also add that Golf Genius automagically posts scores to GHIN for our tournaments, and it seems like it also knows what it's doing.

@Joelness, nice seeing you post again!

I feel like GVR has been greedy for years now. We used to get the 10-pack (which used to be 11-rounds if you purchased early enough) and it broke down to the low $50's per round, and steadily increased over the years, but was still reasonable until a few years ago. I get that rates increase with time, particularly with capital improvements, but it's gotten a little out of control - Ebert's isn't enough to justify it. In fact, I really don't like Eberts - the food is average and the prices are too high. $7 for a Coors Light is ridiculous. Eberts is not designed around a golf course though the patio is nice. I miss the old bar and bartenders.

My friends and I used to be part of the men's club out there too, and really enjoyed it despite no priority or importance given to men's club at all. There were some weekends where we wouldn't tee off until after noon, giving priority to the public so we'd have 5+ hour rounds. It's part of the reason no one joined, not to mention it really wasn't advertised. It was probably the smallest men's club in town and terribly run once Steve was no longer in charge of it and eventually left to Valley. I know they didn't do men's club last year, and wouldn't be surprised if they just let it be. It feels like it's all is about bottom-line to Pat Hamil, rather than having a nice balance that also caters to golfers.

I really do think it's a solid course and great practice facility, but not worth $90+ per round, IMO. While I like some of the people out there, it's just not a very well run place, and they lost too many great people go because of it. Maybe it's getting better, but the pricing and Eberts just don't do it for me anymore.

Nice work! Good to see you back around here!

Edit - I see Bryan Rusin won with his buddy. He used to be a member at GVR and part of men's club. He's a solid golfer. I remember watching him get a hole in one and really not have a care in the world. Granted, it was on the par 3 course, but still was a ~125yd shot. One would think he would have a bit more excitement lol.

Am I the only person that doesn't like GVR or CG very much? GVR is a ~$50 round on it's good days. Riverdale is a 15 min drive up 470 and I can play it on weekend mornings for <$50 for wayyyyy better greens.

I think you guys just need to get out of the city already. Golf is still cheap around here!

Haha, I don't think GVR is worth the price anymore. I would struggle to pay more than $60 or so to play it. I love Riverdale but it's a hike for me from down south. GVR was already enough of a trek.
